1080p HD-SDI Vandal Dome Security Camera
Review by Lehman, Kyle (Kentucky USA) on Mar 23, 2014
I own a retail grocery outlet and purchased these for my store. The cameras are a little pricey to place them all over the store so we use regular 700TVL analog cameras for the aisles with a D1 DVR and that seems to work fine. But, to make sure we get facial identification when we might need it, and to cover the checkout area, we use these cameras. I have this camera positioned to cover all individuals entering the store and the other one in reverse to capture all those exiting. You can't beat the 2 megapixel resolution for facial identification and the varifocal lens allows for adjustment of the framing of the shot. I don't need the infrared unless the store is closed but I have seen it work and the video image is just as clear and detailed. I wish they made a PTZ like this camera.

I purchased this camera on line and received it in three days. It arrived in excellent condition. The camera works great! The video is detailed and clear, no skips, jumps, dropped frames, or anything like that. It has a varifocal lens, infrared mode with a range of about 50 feet and an on board OSD. The camera works very well but I'm not sure you couldn't get the same results from one of the other vandal resistant dome cameras, the main difference being the clear bubble dome protecting the lens and camera and the other cameras are bit cheaper.

It's difficult to review this camera without talking about these relatively new HD-SDI systems as well. I recently upgraded my stores security system from an old (and I mean old) video security system to the new HD-SDI. Of course nothing was reusable on the old system accept one thing, which in my case was extremely important, and that was the RG59 coaxial cable. It's really great to enjoy getting super IP network megapixel quality out of a system that can use coaxial cables. As for the camera itself, you can't beat it in the way of HD-SDI vandal domes. The definition and clarity of the color video is amazing and for that matter so is the black and white infrared mode video. The camera mounted easily and was easy to setup/install. It has an OSD but the functions are really minimal. Nonetheless I can't imagine anyone not being fully satisfied with this camera.

Nice camera for an HD-SDI. Great resolution with the high definition 1080p detail at 30 frames per second. The best word I can use to describe this camera is "robust." It's a solid vandal proof camera with a high quality video output. The camera is as easy as any other to mount and comes with a 2.8 to 12mm varifocal lens so you can narrow the shot. It also has its own On Screen Display menu. I liked it so much after I got I ordered two more.

This is a great way to take the HD-SDI dome camera up one more level by adding a 2.8 to 12 mm varifocal lens. Between the ultra high resolution and the varifocal lens, there should be very little missed detail or identification of individuals that's for sure. The camera works great!

This is a pretty basic HD-SDI dome camera although it does have a 2.8 to 12mm varifocal lens. Infrared range distance is around 50 feet. Although I say this may be pretty basic, let me tell you this camera easily blows away the best or most expensive analog camera you could come up with as far as detail, color, and general picture quality are concerned. Nice piece of hardware.

Quite frankly, I thought my CCTV professional was joking with me when he told me that I could pull all the older cameras in my jewelry store and replace them with HD-SDI cameras that would record at megapixel network style resolutions and still use the same coaxial cable my old cameras used. I though all the newer digital cameras these days had to use Cat5 or Ethernet cable or whatever, which meant I would have to pay to have all my cables re-run. When I found out how much I saved on not needing the cables re-run, it really offset the more expensive price of the HD-SDI system compared to my old analog system and now I get GREAT resolution video. These cameras pick up such great detail, that I can even tell exactly what merchandise is being shown to or tried on by our customers. When I asked if I could see some more information about these cameras, my installer suggested that I go to Security Camera King.com and even call or chat with their staff (which I did.) Their customer support was absolutely fabulous and I must say I have acquired even more trust in the judgment of my security expert after installing this system. If high detail resolution video recording is important to your business but you don't have a network, or better yet don't want to run new camera cables, I suggest you consider one of these HD-SDI systems and especially this dome camera.

I'm an independent CCTV contractor and I just installed my first HD-SDI system. The customer ordered these cameras and the DVR from Security Camera king and I installed them. They replaced their older analog system with this one. They wanted an IP network system because they wanted the benefit of having the fine resolution of megapixel cameras. When I called Security Camera King to check on what was available, the sales department suggested I offer an HD-SDI system with these cameras. It would save the customer money because I wouldn't have to run new cable and save me time. I passed along the information to my customer and they said that if it delivered the same quality picture as a network megapixel system that would be fine with them. Installation was so easy, it was just like replacing an analog system with another analog system. The camera records a great 1080p resolution video picture at a 30 frames per second rate, and uses the old cabling! Here's a suggestion to CCTV installers. If you have customers that are knowledgeable enough about camera systems and want to replace their older analog systems with an IP network system because of the megapixel resolution, tell them about these new HD-SDI cameras and systems. They'll save money and you will save time with the install and everyone will be happy!

You'll never get a clearer, better video picture than this from an analog camera! We have a fairly extensive security camera system for our company that consists of analog TVL resolution cameras, IP Network megapixel cameras, and now the new HD-SDI cameras. I think I read somewhere where these types of cameras were designed with the idea that legacy type cable (RG59 for example versus newer CAT5 cable) could be used so you could upgrade your system without re-running new cable. However, from my perspective, I can see where someone would easily want their entire system (new) to be HD-SDI. Not only to you reap the advantage of being able to use coaxial cable, but the cameras produce equivalent IP megapixel camera security video without bogging down your network and filling up your bandwidth like a network system would. This camera in particular produces a great picture as I said before. It has a 2.8 to 12mm varifocal lens so "moving in" on the exact shot you want isn't much of an issue and the fine detail that is captured is truly amazing. The camera also has it's own built in infrared LED illuminators and can project and infrared light beam for capturing in the dark of up to 50 feet. Like the network cameras it has a Graphical User Interface (GUI) only they call it an On Screen Display (OSD) that allows you to make some adjustments to the camera's electronic functions. It's an excellent camera and we are extremely satisfied with its performance. Also, Security Camera King's technical support department was extremely helpful to us in getting this camera and many others in our system set the way we wanted them. Kudos.

Excellent high quality recording and play back videos from this dome camera. At 1080p resolution (recording at 30 frames per second), this camera creates security video recording display that can't even be touched by my old analog system. Another feature that's nice about this dome camera is the fact that is has a varifocal lens. The 2.8 - 12 mm lens goes from wide angle to a zoom shot, granted the 12mm focal length doesn't give a tremendous zoom power but it still allows for some and can narrow the shot too.
