Geez! I'm impressed! Security Camera King calls this their "Compact Series" NVR but other than storage and a couple other features it's more like a full size unit to me. After all, we are running 16 1080p (2 megapixel) cameras at 30 frames per second each simultaneously and it handles them with ease. The NVR comes with ears so you can screw this unit right into your server rack if you have one (we do) and it operates nicely and neatly from that position. We used an extension USB cord and installed a pull out tray directly beneath the NVR so we can use the tray to keep a page of notes on the cameras, log points, etc. and use it as a mouse pad. That keeps the front USB port open for a flash drive. Anytime we need backup copies we use the USB flash. For us it makes a lot more sense since a DVD will limit you to about 4 gigs of footage while 32 or even 64 gig flash drives are common and relatively cheap to buy these days. We copy our footage to the flash drive then take it over to one of our computers and burn the DVD from there. That allows us to have 4 internal hard disk drives for maximum storage potential. The eSATA option is nice, but we don't need it. The cameras were pretty easy to set up and configure with the NVR. We used the search feature to find the cameras and their IPs and we configured them by simply dividing 128 by the total number of cameras. Can't beat the features and performance of this unit. Security camera King now has us a regular and permanent customer.

This NVR is definitely a step forward in technology and performance. It's easy to install and use, and the capacity for megapixel resolutions, frame rates and number of cameras is outstanding (for example you can record 16 cameras simultaneously at 2 megapixels (1080p) resolution at 30 frames per second or even 16 cameras at a full 3 megapixel resolution quality at 20 frames per second. With that being said, make certain you pre-plan well for the use of your NVR so you will know approximately how much potential storage you'll need to record and maintain your security camera recordings. At the new 1.5 U size about the only sacrifice I see being mad by the unit is less storage space potential. The NVR can still record audio; it still offers RS485 PTZ camera control, and alarm inputs and outputs. Three different but simultaneous video output types (BNC, HDMI, and VGA) should provide you with plant of monitor support. This things got a heck of a power plant because it seems to be able to handle the recording of a heck of a lot of data (up to a maximum of 128Mbps) without any difficulty; nor dropped frames, lost video, or interference. Our machine has demonstrated great performance thus far and I have no reason to believe that it won't continue to doe so. We definitely like it!

WOW! This is one powerful NVR! 16 Channels of 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second or if you really want to go hog wild you can reduce the frame rate a little and go with full 3 Megapixel cameras for all 16 channels. I have to be honest and tell you that I didn't think it would handle all that input without some "give and take" in resolution or frame rate, but our unit is operating just fine without any dropped frames, no slow down in recording rate, and absolutely no crashes. This is amazing to me because at home, even with my high speed cable connection I sometimes have problems watching one 1080p movie on my computer without hiccups. 16 megapixel network cameras is a lot to look at and you may want to use more than one display monitor (we actually use two) however, this NVR can handle up to 3 simultaneous main monitor displays using the standard HDMI, VGA, and BNC video output connections. There are two additional USB 2.0 ports on the back of the unit for peripheral devices as well as and eSATA port for external hard disk drives. (We started doing a lot of recording and found that we needed more drive space so we ended up purchasing Security Camera Kings NAS-4 unit which works great). The video quality is super, there are plenty of extra features, and the price is very reasonable as well. I'll recommend this to colleagues without any problem.
