This is the perfect DVR with ability to handle 16 analog and 16 IP cameras. It is the best of both worlds.

16 Channel Hybrid Federal Series H.264 DVR/NVR
Review by D. Wyrich on Mar 08, 2014
I work in a government office that not only requires the use of full time video security cameras but they must meet the 960H resolution spec minimum Security Camera King calls it their "Federal" series) for analog cameras. Recently we acquired this 16 channel SCK "Federal" hybrid and all I can say is that it works like a charm. Video recordings are crystal clear, color accurate, and stable. Multiple remote user access works great as do the other features. If you can't make facial recognition using this hybrid DVR/NVR then there must be something wrong with your system.

This is a great solution for using multiple cameras at a reasonable price while obtaining high resolution video recordings. The 16 cameras that create the analog 960H resolution recording work very well and they are all new cameras with a Sony 960H sensor in them. I have to say that I truly do believe that Security Camera King has designed a digital processing chip that can make the most out of these 960H sensors because I think their recorded video is better than other manufacturers' results that I have seen. The IP network side of this hybrid gives us the opportunity to experience the IP network systems and literally compare them to the maximum resolution (960H) available from analog transmission products. The megapixel resolution is very detailed and you will not miss a single facial identification if your camera is set up properly with megapixel resolution. I have the latest and greatest computer with all the bells and whistles and I guarantee you it could not handle the workload that this hybrid recorder unit can. I'm assuming that's because this hybrid takes advantage of dual core processing and the digital processing chips and main board are wired specifically for video management. Regardless of what actually makes it work so well, I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in both 960H resolution and megapixel resolution recording.

We ordered this hybrid DVR/NVR (and many other items) on line and we received the entire shipment in 3 days. Nothing was damaged, everything was packed well, and the equipment was in pristine shape. Physical installation went very smoothly. I was asked to install the system for the company I work for and I gladly agreed as it would be a change in pace from my daily routine. We had already performed a survey to determine where and what kind of cameras were needed so all I had to do for that end of it was mount the cameras, run the cables, and aim and adjust the cameras. Probably the single most tedious and challenging part of the installation was running the cables (drilling holes in walls or studs, attaching cable, etc.) As for this Hybrid DVR/NVR, again the physical attachment of all the cables, USB mouse, etc was a piece of cake too. The DVR is configured by using something called an On Screen Display or OSD. Basically, they are a series of computer type pages that accept various inputs to configure the entire system (motion detection control, alarms, audio, camera adjustments, etc.) and operate the DVR/NVR. Again, the OSD was easy to operate as far as physically maneuvering around the pages and providing input, but I must admit that knowing what to do was a little challenging for me. The manual doesn't necessarily explain "why" you do what you do (or should do) it just tells you to do this or do that. So eventually I called Security Camera King support and asked for help. These guys were spectacular. They explained everything I asked about in detail and told just exactly what I needed to do. This is NOT your average technical support service. Our system is up and everything is working well. The 960H format is darn close to the lower end of megapixel quality and the NVR side is even better. The video recordings for either type of system (DVR side or NVR side) are very clear and colorful, and extremely sharp and well defined. Surprisingly, the unit operates without producing a large amount of heat and handles all tasks extremely well, including the remote access feature via our network/Internet. The 3 year warranty combined with the fantastic technical support makes this purchase from Security Camera King one that just can't go wrong.

You get the best of all worlds with this Hybrid DVR/NVR combination. Our new 700TVL cameras really look impressive when displayed in 960H format. In addition, the NVR side of this machine gives us a chance at trying out the network system too. Now that this is installed, we have everything we need which is good, because now I'm not sure if I would go with 960H, Network, or HD-SDI systems (I think they all have their own distinct advantages/disadvantages). I am happy to say that we had very little difficulty with installation and the Security Camera King technical support guidance was superb.

I ordered this unit form Security Camera King on line and received it in just two days. That's what I call quick! In was packed securely and in perfect order.

It's been said that Security Camera King calls this series their "Federal" series because they original DVRs were created to satisfy government specifications, but let me tell you, you don't have to be a government entity to own this recorder and with the 960H resolution on the DVR and the 1080p resolution on the NVR you've got the best of both worlds.

On the DVR side, I believe this unit really does take advantage of the newer 960H sensor chips in the 700TVL cameras exploiting their quality to the fullest possible attainable. The detail here is amazing and the wide screen format seems to eliminate any "bowing" effect you get from perfectly square formats. This recorder has no problem handling the recording of 16 700TVL cameras at 960H at a 30 frame per second rate. I'm not sure how it can do that and work the NVR side too, but it does.

As for the NVR side, my client actually uses the megapixel resolution with a facial recognition software program and a computer to identify individuals at their entrance and exit. This took some time to set up and adjust to perfection, but now I must say it works very well.

There are plenty of features on this unit and I won't bother to mention them all as they can easily be ascertained by checking out the specifications but I will tell you that the unit has operated without fail for over a year now. On a recent follow up call the customer told me that he has had absolutely know problems with it, no freezes, no crashes, or anything else and is very satisfied with its operation.

This hybrid DVR was definitely designed for those who want more on top of more. First off, it has 16 channels of 960H resolution recording. That's the highest analog based resolution you can achieve today with out going into megapixel country so 16 channels of that alone is quite a lot. The NVR side of this hybrid can handle 16 additional channels but the frame rates are somewhat limited. For example if you intend to record 16 channels at 1080p resolution than you will have to settle for a 7.5 frame per second rate (which still isn't bad). On the other hand, you can use 4 1080p resolution cameras and record at a realtime rate of 30 frames per second. Suffice it to say there are a lot of options. One of the really nice features that you'll find on this Security Camera King hybrid DVR/NVR that often isn't available on other similar hybrids is the dual gigabit ports. These can be configured to run together in tandem or independently if you like. With all that data from the high resolution analog system and the super high resolution megapixel system its nice to have that option. My guess is that like most of the other Security Camera King systems, this hybrid was designed to meet government contract specifications but don't let that stop you from thinking you can't own one too. It's a good unit with very good working performance.

This is my first install of this model and I installed it for a government agency. The customer was very pleased with the results and I have had to follow up calls on the installation. I will say that if you purchase this hybrid DVR/NVR you are really get the best of the best. You can't beat 960H resolution in analog video transmission methods as far as I know. This is the greatest resolution attainable for this format. Also, although there are some special items that can exceed a 2 megapixel (1080p) resolution network IP megapixel system, your really get the top of the line here as well at least for today's standards.

The recorded videos from both the DVR type and NVR type cameras are extremely clear, sharp, and color correct. There is absolutely no problem there. The case is large enough to accept multiple internal hard disk drives and an internal DVD burner. Another nice feature that this customer in particular uses is the FTP option. They use FTP to send a copy of their daily recorded videos over the network to a different network with a server system that has plenty of storage space. This way, they maintain a "permanent" record of their videos in an entirely different location than where the hybrid is installed to ensure that they will have a copy in case some one should take the unit or destroy it. The Agency refers to this as some sort of "redundancy" which they say is part of their program operations and support plan.

They've made nearly maximum use of this unit by no only using all of the available video channels but by recording some audio channels as well and using the alarm input and outputs. The system is set up for remote access control and the fact that Security Camera King makes their software apps free is a big plus. I look forward to installing more of these Federal Hybrids in the future.

When it comes to a combination of analog transmitting and digital transmitting cameras you can't get any better than this hybrid recorder. Actually, I haven't seen a lot of 960H/1080p hybrids on the market so I would say there is a limited number of dealers that offer them. That being the case, I am more than happy to say that I have purchased mine from Security Camera King. Like any other security video camera recorder you can use these for any purpose, but so far I have only installed these for commercial use, usually because the company's contract specifications require a 960H resolution and the users also want to experience the super high resolution 1080p network system.

This hybrid is pretty easy to install and it uses the same type of On Screen Display or Graphical User Interface that the other line of Security Camera King's recorders do so it is pretty easy to use and learn how to navigate. I haven't had any complaints from my customers nor have I had any call back issues. The need for this sort of hybrid doesn't pop up often (at least for me) but if you need one, this is certainly the place to get it. The quality and performance are very good.
