16 Channel Ultimate Series H.264 D1 Realtime Security DVR
Review by Baber, Curtis (Utah USA) on Apr 29, 2014
I am and independent CCTV contractor here in Utah and I've been dealing with Security Camera King for about 6 years now. I have always received top notch support, and the products are the best quality. I jokingly refer to this as the "Big Daddie 16" (versus the "Big Daddie 32"). It's really the complete package for a D1 DVR. In fact most people aren't even aware of all the features this recorder has even after the purchase it, use it, and have had it for a couple years. I've installed many of these in my commercial accounts, but I must also add that I have had plenty of requests for them as well for residential use. The recorded video is clear and concise, with accurate coloring and a nice resolution off D1 with each channel capable of recording at that resolution at a frame rate of 30 fps and it can do it simultaneously for all 16 channels. Remote access via the Internet works well and the fact that Security Camera King offers apps and software to use that can be downloaded and used for free is another plus!

Review by Suss, Charles (Texas USA) on Feb 26, 2014
Since Security Camera King really doesn't have a place for "tips from customers" I thought I would include this with my review. First of all the review. This unit is great. Works fine, videos are clear and crisp, good detail and smooth control. The recorder is easy to set up and use and my customers usually find it easy to get accustomed to the OSD with very little time expenditure on their part. In fact, most of the time, once I perform the install, they seldom need to adjust the configurations but they know that if I am not readily available, Security Camera King's great support staff always is Monday through Friday during normal business hours. The DVR has lots of features, lots of storage potential and is of premium quality. I highly recommend it.

Now the tip. I always advise my commercial/business customers that when a video security system plan is designed or if they have a pre-conceived design how they would like the cameras used and mounted, that is the number of channels being used is 8, to upgrade to a 16 channel series recorder. You'd be surprised how many of my customers have given me call backs because after using their system for a while, they decide that they would like a hidden camera here or a dome there, etc. I realize that a 16 channel recorder is more expensive than an eight, but if it is within your budget, it id definitely worth the investment.

Very nice piece of equipment at a very reasonable price considering the features and the quality of workmanship. There's some serious digital video recording going on here with 16 cameras all recording D1 resolution at 30 frames per second. I use 700TVL cameras most with a varifocal lens and one PTZ camera and this DVR has no problem managing them all. Even the RS485 remote control input on the PTZ is smooth and hassle-free. I don't think Security Camera King left much out of this recorder, I mean it is stacked full with features and options. Loopouts, 3 main monitor displays, audio, two way audio, alarms that can integrate with the cameras, USB ports for external devices, plenty of room inside for internal hard disk drives AND an internal DVD burner. And one of the best features is the remote accessing feature and the fact that more than one person can access it at the same time. The On Screen Display menu is lengthy yet easy to navigate with the included USB mouse, however I must admit that I had to consult with Security Camera King's support department. This is where it gets good. I expected to get someone located out of the United States with a standard reply that would be useless, but instead, I got some one that wanted to know if there was anything else they could help me with after fully answering my questions to begin with. Excellent. Find me a better recorder and a better company......good luck.

I have nothing to complain about with this recorder and all I can say is good. So I'll leave it up to that instead of taking up a lot of space. Security Camera King has a good technical support department too!

As the saying goes amongst many CCTV installers, when it comes to customers that want a high quality 16 channel D1 resolution full time DVR this is my "go to" unit. This recorder will give you great quality; reliable video security video recordings that are very sharp and color correct (providing the cameras are decent). Handling the processing of 16 channels of D1 resolution at a full 30 frames per second is still quite a load to take on even for today's video processors but my experience has shown me that this machine can handle whatever you throw at it. I've never had a customer complain about it and I've never had a call back for repairs. I give my customers a quick review of how to use the DVR once I've set it up and between that and the videos they always seem to be quite content with having the "control" in their hands. In addition, I leave explicit instructions with them that if they have an issue with the DVR (such as programming, setting a feature, etc) they may either call me or Security Camera King's Technical Support department which has been absolutely great. If they keep up their current trends, I see Techpro/Security Camera King becoming a major player in the videos security camera industry in the future.

This 16 channel Ultimate Series DVR has got to be the standard in the commercial application genre at least. I'm certainly not ruling out that it can't be used for other applications like residential use; of course it can. But when it comes to general, average size jobs for me, this DVR unit has got to set the standard for the industry. It's not one of those ridiculous computer based units, it records excellent D1 resolution video at 30 frames per second on all 16 channels at once, and it does it without overheating, bogging down, or crashing.

You don't have to be a professional CCTV installer to set this DVR up either. Anyone can do it, and if you have any problems, I've found Security Camera King's technical support department to be probably one of the best in the business. All of the little extras are included with the DVR such as SATA cables a USB mouse an infrared remote control, mounting brackets, etc. Security Camera King goes through great lengths to provide you with instructional materials ranging from owners' manuals to video instructions and written instructions to help you install and set up the DVR. The On Screen Display (OSD) menu system works great and is relatively easy to use. It is intuitive enough that if you can figure out where to make the adjustments to configurations and choices for operation. If not, it is still easy enough to use that if you have the time and the energy you can simply cruise from page to page to familiarize yourself with the menus.

The DVR has plenty of features and options. There is plenty of room for internal hard drive disk storage, external hard drive disk storage, internal and external DVD burners, and other devices. For data security, the DVR offers two features that stick out for me. One is that the hard drives can be configured in the RAID configuration in case one fails (I've never had a call back for a failed hard drive for this unit though), and the other is that the entire hard set of hard drives can be backed up to an entirely different location over a network or the Internet using File Transfer Protocol (FTP).

I just don't think you can get any better than this. Of course I'm partial, because as an independent CCTV installer my company orders much of their equipment from Security Camera King but I would argue that that may not be partiality as much as a sound, logical choice. I don't think you'll find any disappointments with this unit.

so far it's a pretty cool box. everything i needed to hook it up was in the box. the local interface worked just as the videos indicated. (the videos are a great help!) the web interface was a little tricky but customer support was prompt, polite, and knowledgable. (great job guys!) this box is replacing a computer based security system that always had problems with the high $ capture card. have not configured the alarm input and alarm audio output, but it seems straight forward enough. can't wait to "play" with it some more. i would recomend this to a someone.

First let me say that we manage projects in 9 different states, and we have credit lines with the major suppliers in the security business, so we don’t really need just another equipment vendor to buy from especially one without terms.

When we started buying from your company, I was just looking to add a vendor to our growing list, and test out a few products, and then I got something I didn’t really expect, GREAT tech support.

I know that I am supposed to be writing a review for equipment, but I am writing this review because of the service that I have received during the short time we have been buying from Tech Pro. Michael Gallardo, has been nothing short of “Amanzing” it’s a phrase I’ve coined just for him, it means half man & half amazing.

After dealing with inadequate support people from various tech companies I just happened to get Mike as a support person at your company. I am totally & completely results driven, which is just another way of saying, you had better know your product when you talk to me, and be able to get to it quickly, he knows the products intimately and has a broad command across several different product lines, and he goes beyond the call of duty,” like a dog with a bone” I have such confidence in his knowledge that I now call him with other techs on the line just so I can confirm that they fully understand how install your products.

If he is not the standard for support at your company HE SHOULD BE, if I am ever in the need for an in house project manager, I will make him an offer he can’t refuse. Someone who actually knows what he’s doing, how refreshing…………….like a hug from nana! Thank you Michael, keep up the good work.
