600TVL Indoor/Outdoor Varifocal 2.8 - 12 mm IR Vandal Resistant Dome Security Camera
Review by Jerry Knight on May 19, 2013
Great camera for the price. The zoom and focus controls are on the outside camera cover and are easily adjusted with a mini screwdriver or the included tool. 600 TVL resolution produces a good quality color and monochrome infrared video for the price category. Everything is automatic so you basically just mount the camera and plug in the cables.
600 TVL Indoor/Outdoor Varifocal 2.8 - 12 mm IR Vandal Resistant Dome Security Camera

When I purchased my Security Camera King security camera system package I upgraded to this camera for all my cameras. For $20 more than the basic camera it is definitely worth the price. It is still a basic "automatic" type camera, but it captures and records a very good video picture. When I say its a basic "automatic" camera, I mean that there is no OSD so that the camera makes just about all of its adjustments automatically based on the way it is programmed from the factory and the conditions that it exists in once it is put in use. Even though these settings are "automatic" I think it works great (although I am not a professional CCTV guy). The 600TVL resolution is more than enough for what I need at home and the 2.8 to 12mm varifocal lens gives me a better "framed" picture and allows for a little zooming. If you have unusual mounting circumstances, this feature can be very helpful. Also, the camera has about a 100 foot infrared range at night so it it really covers the area. It is called a “vandal resistant” dome camera because it is relatively tough, the way it is mounted conceals the screws and the wires so it can’t be tampered with. I wouldn’t say it could survive a good whack by a baseball bat, but I’m not sure there are too many security cameras out there that could. It’s a good camera, and I have already recommended it and the Security Camera King package system to two of my neighbors.

I'll go along with Security Camera King on this one, it is a lot of bang for the buck. This camera produces a solid 600 TVL resolution color video recording that is quite impressive in quality considering the price range of the camera. Plus, even though it doesn't have an OSD, it still has a lot of features that adjust themselves automatically and the picture is good. It also has an infrared range in total darkness of about 100 feet using its own built in IR LEDs so that is longer than the average camera's range. Finally, the big bonus on this camera is that is has a 2.8 - 12mm varifocal lens that is easy to adjust. There are to recessed screws on each horizontal side of the camera, one for zoom and one for focus. It even comes with the mini size screwdriver to adjust them with. This camera may not be the "top of the line" but it is a good buy and I don't think anyone would be disappointed with it.
600 TVL Indoor/Outdoor Varifocal 2.8 - 12mm IR Vandal Resistant Dome Security Camera

Not a bad camera t all and I would definitely pay the $24 or so more than the Security Camera King basic 600TVL Indoor/Outdoor IR Resistant Dome Security Camera just for the 2.8 - 12mm lens. I kind of look at it this way, the cheapest box camera lens that Security Camera King offers is the LENS-2.8-12 that is a 2.8 to 12mm varifocal lens and it currently sells for $39.95. I know this is a dome camera that comes that is supposed to come with it's own lens, but if the cheapest minimum varifocal box lens is $39.95, then I think it is worth the extra money to pay to have the varifocal lens on this camera. Besides, unless you plan covering "wide open spaces" a varifocal lens is always better to have to me. Another "plus" feature of this camera is the extended range for infrared mode. This camera has 36 fairly strong infrared LEDs that illuminate the scene at night and will give you a range of about 100 feet, convenient since you may have the tendency to zoom out a little with the varifocal lens. The user manual kind of sucks if you are a do it your selfer because like most of them it is poorly translated Chinese. All it really has is a diagram illustrating how the camera gets hooded into the system line. But compared with others, it's probably realistically about the same in quality.

There's not much too this camera in the way of extra features with two exceptions. This camera has a 2.8 - 12mm varifocal lens that gives you the flexibility to go from wide angle to narrow. It is easy to set, just used the recessed adjustment screws on the outside case for focus and zoom. The other exception is its powerful infrared total darkness range of 100 feet. My feeling is, is that this is even a better buy than the basic fixed lens camera that Security Camera King sells even though it is $24 more. Although it's not fancy, everything is automatic and simple. Automatic infrared mode, automatic gain control, and automatic electronic shutter. Easy to mount, zoom, focus and connect. The camera is so simple the owner's manual only has one page (not even full at that) of connecting instructions that basically consist of a diagram. Yet the product of the camera, the video capture, is pretty darn good. Inexpensive, simple, automatic, good quality. Just the way I like it.
Worth The $20 More Than The OD-CM600IR50-B Infrared Dome Camera

If you're looking for a "basic" infrared dome camera with a decent resolution of 600 TVL then I recommend that you purchase this camera. The video picture has good detail is sharp and color correct. It's got about the same features and characteristics as the Security Camera King dome camera, OD-CM600IR50-B, but is only $20 more. However, the investment is definitely worth the price because this camera has two enhanced features that the OD-CM600IR50-B doesn't have. First this camera has a 2.8 - 12 mm varifocal lens. If you have used standard fixed 3.6 mm lens I think you'll find them to be sufficient, but they primarily are designed for wide angle or overview type recordings. This camera on the other hand, allows you to zoom and narrow the shot down so that you get exactly what you're looking for without a lot of excess "waste" in the picture. Also, this camera is has an infrared mode just like the OD-CM600IR50-B, however you get a longer range with this camera. This camera has an infrared mode range in total darkness of about 100 feet (versus the 50 feet for the OD-CM600IR50-B). The camera has no OSD, but it does have automatic gain control and automatic shutter control. It's not a super high quality camera with an OSD and lots of features but because of these two main points I do recommend it over the OD-CM600IR50-B.

This is one of those "basic function" camera without a lot of extras. One key aspect of this camera is the 2.8 - 12 mm varifocal lens. This can be manually adjusted to go from a wide to narrower shot simply by using the zoom and focus screws embedded in each side of the camera casing. Everything else is automatic and cannot be adjusted by using an On Screen Display menu system. Just the same it does have auto gain control, auto electronic shutter, and automatic infrared modes. Another benefit is the 600 TVL recording resolution which picks up some detail. Even though the camera is pretty basic and all of the features are automatic it still makes for a pretty good quality video recording.
Security Camera King's 600 TVL indoor/outdoor varifocal 2.8 - 12 mm IR vandal resistant dome security camera is a great buy for the price! The 600 TVL resolution produces a nice video picture and it is clear and color correct. I think the selling point of this camera is the fact that it is still priced well under $100 yet is still has an infrared range of up to 100 feet and even more importantly a varifocal lens that ranges from 2.8 to 12 mm. This gives you the versatility of a wide angle to a zoomed shot and can take the headache out of mounting placement decisions. There's no On Screen Display menu, but hey what would you expect for only $69.95? All of the picture producing electronics are automatically adjusted by the cameras circuitry so in a way it can take the "headache" out of tinkering with an OSD too, especially if you're not used to using the settings of OSD camera. The price is good enough that you can easily afford to equip your entire system with this camera for each channel.

This is a good basic indoor/outdoor vandal proof camera. The camera case is made out of sturdy aluminum but can be manipulated to aim during mounting. The camera has a 2.8 - 12mm varifocal lens that allows you to adjust the width of your shot. Zoom in close or back off for an overview. There are two adjustment screws, one on each side of the camera that are recessed in the case to prevent tampering, for adjusting the zoom and focus. The camera also has infrared capability with automatic infrared LEDs that give it a range of close to 100 feet! Although there is no on screed display menu, the camera does a pretty good job at self adjusting for the picture. Definitely worth the price for a basic version dome camera that also comes with a varifocal lens.

This camera has a nice, sleek design yet is built rugged and with quality. The aluminum body provides some vandal resistance. The 600 TVL video captured by this camera is crisp and clear. There is no on screen display menu system so you don't have to run through a bunch of screens of information to set it up. Basically, you just screw in the included screws and aim the camera. The camera does have a manually adjusted varifocal lens that ranges from 2.8 to 12 mm so you can go from a wide angle shot to a zoomed in shot to fit your situation. The zoom and focus are adjusted by turning screws on the outside camera casing with the included tool or any small flat bladed screwdriver. The camera comes loaded with 36 infrared LEDs that all surround the lens and provide up to a 100 foot infrared video range in total darkness. It's a pretty darn good camera for the price!
