650TVL Auto Zoom True Day/Night Color at Night Auto Zoom Vandal Dome
Review by Albert, Thomas (Arizona USA) on Mar 20, 2014
We purchased this camera for our retail store, specifically for use at the counter register area. It works great for an overhead camera and at the time of checkout or when someone approaches the counter, if we are monitoring the system and they look suspicious or we just want to better monitor a transaction, we can zoom in from the office for a better look. Installation was standard with the exception that this camera will require an extra pair of wires run with the video cable for the RS485 connection to your DVR to allow for remote control of the zoom. Fine adjustments can be made through the OSD and the video quality is excellent. Colors still come out nicely even in very low lit conditions.

I have to admit I'm not real fond of infrared illuminated security video shots because the color of the objects can make a big difference in the use of the video. As a former video forensic specialist and now a consultant and head of the security for my present employer I suggested that we invest in this Security Camera King True day/night color dome. The video demonstrates very high quality even in low light conditions. It maintains the color integrity of the shot in low light situation with minimal graininess or digital noise. The RS485 remote controlled zoom lens works fast, quiet, and accurately. The OSD give you the ability to adjust the camera configuration to accommodate various conditions as well. I'm satisfied and would recommend it to others that are interested in this type of camera.

Well working camera that hasn't given me any problems at all. The video it captures is color true and clear and detailed as well at 650TVL. Of course since it is a true day/night camera there is no need for infrared LEDs to light the field of view although it will pick up the illumination form other nearby cameras if there are any. You'll need to run an extra pair of wires for the RS485 connection to remotely control the zoom lens, but it works fine as well. The focal length only ranges from 2.9 to 10mm so there isn't a tremendous amount of magnification power on the zoom but it still serves the purpose and works well.

I guarantee you won't be able to walk in to your local electronics store or home improvement store and be able to purchase a camera like this one. In fact this is quite the specialty camera and I was surprised I found one here at Security Camera King. The camera has many features but the two that stick out the most of course are the motorized zoom control lens and the true day/night color video recording. The varifocal lens has a focal length range of from 2.9 to 10mm so it is not a "super zoomer" but it does work great for using it as an over view camera and then remotely zooming in on a subject to identify who they are. The zoom function works remotely via the RS485 connection or a remote control. The camera is black in color and it also records true color at night which adds to the camera's "covertness" if you will. It also comes with an On Screen Display that includes control of many enhancing features including digital wide dynamic range.

This is the second customer in the past two years that has used this camera. Both customers seemed to be very satisfied with the way the camera operates and it apparently does a more than satisfactory job of creating color video recordings. Not everyone would want or need a camera like this and I can't say what this camera is being used for by either customer, but I can tell you that the camera was easy to mount and set up and the zoom lens and the true in fared mode with the ICR lens works very well!

Well one things probably for certain and that is you're not going to buy this camera unless you have a special need for the automatic zoom lens. I was surprised when I spoke to the representative at Security Camera King when he told me they had such a thin, as I described my situation and asked what he suggested. Basically, this camera is just "what the doctor ordered" for us. It's a nice high resolution color camera and the 2.9-10 mm automatic zoom lens is not telescopic in zoom proportions but it certainly will bring your shot in tight especially for things like check out areas and cash registers and such. Not only that but it has a really sensitive capture chip that allows you to see in full color in dark places without any artificial infrared illumination. We have our camera hooked up to the RS485 connection so we not only get full access to the On Screen Display menu but the zoom control of the lens as well.

This is a nice camera with a specialized function. We use it at our checkout counter. We have the camera positioned so that when the lens is set at wide angle we can encompass the whole counter area in the shot, but when we want to cover the specifics of a transaction we can use the automatic zoom to close in on exactly what is taking place and what is exchanging hands. The camera works well with the RS485 connection for remote control of the camera and the OSD. I can’t see a lot of wide range use for a camera like this but I would imagine there are plenty of special use circumstances (like casino tables for example) where it might be very handy. Basically, since it is a true day/night camera you don’t need infrared illumination. That works great because if you did, you might just zoom outside your limited infrared LED range if you had them. Also, you get the benefits of a high quality day/night color cam with a good zoom without paying the full price of a more expensive Pan Tilt Zoom camera.

This is a high quality specialty camera that does a pretty good job in very low light conditions. In fact, I call this my "James Bond" camera because of the fact that it has the 2.9 - 10mm auto focus motorized varifocal lens and the 0.0 LUX minimum lighting for color reproduction. In many ways you can't get a whole lot better than this but there are a few areas for improvement. Nothing overly significant, but the resolution doesn't quite top out at today's maximums (700 - 730TVL) for analog cameras and is you are going to want to purchase a motorized zoom lens camera, it would be nice to have a little more focal length on the far end so you can zoom for than just 10mm. Just the same, I do like the camera and I think it does a good job, especially in low light conditions. Even though the camera is a sort of "specialty" camera it is still versatile in use because in addition to the lens and true day/night features it also has an On Screen Display (OSD) menu system that allows you to make adjustments to many electronic features and it is even a dual voltage camera. I doubt you'll be buying this for every day security camera usage, but if you do need a camera like this one, I don't think you'll be disappointed with it either.

First of all, I won't try to fool you and make it sound like this camera is for anybody. Your going to want to use this camera if you have a situation where you need a fixed zoom camera (i.e. you don't need a Pan Tilt and Zoom but just the Zoom) and since you will be zooming at distances, you don't want to have to fool with infrared LEDs to with a fixed illumination range. (Although this camera will pick up illumination from other infrared cameras that have IRLEDs if they are within the camera's field of view.) This camera has a 2.9 to 10mm varifocal lens, but the lens is also motorized with an autofocus. That means you can use this camera like the Zoom function on a PTZ camera, that is you can control it from the DVR and see the results instantly on your monitor. Now the 10 mm focal length doesn't give you a tremendous zooming power, but it is sufficient for our needs at least. You may want to talk to Security Camera King professionals to make sure it will suit your application before you purchase it. The camera has a 650 TVL resolution and the video picture display is very accurate and of the highest quality. The camera also has an On Screen Display menu that can be used to adjust many different features' settings such as back light compensation, white balance, motion detection, wide dynamic range and many others. The OSD can be operated from an RS485 connection or the camera has an included remote control that can also operate the lens and OSD. It is a good quality piece of electronic equipment.

Sometimes you don't need someone to tell you you've got something good, you just have to experience it. That could be the case with Security Camera King's TPS-QLDAZ4 650 TVL Auto Zoom dome camera. At first sight this camera may seem expensive, perhaps even exorbitant. Who would need such a camera and pay this much money for one that doesn't even give the maximum resolution analog cameras have to offer these days? If you look a little closer you might find the answer to that question, and perhaps I could help. First, and probably one of the most important aspects of this camera is that if you mount it in the right place and position, it could replace multiple cameras. The 2.9 to 10mm varifocal lens doesn't offer the greatest zooming power available by any means but it does zoom and it does automatically adjust the iris and focus when it does. What this means is that if you set this camera up quickly you could use it in a retail store for example to get an overview of perhaps the entire store, however at the same time you could zoom in on transactions that occur at the cash register for a closer or tighter shot. Since the camera is a true day/night camera, there is no need for infrared illuminating LEDs in the evening as it can still produce pictures at 0, that's right 0 LUX. If you can't make this camera work for you, I would think it's because you aren't using its On Screen Display correctly or to its fullest extent. This menu system allows you to adjust the settings on just about everything on the camera including shutter speed, digital wide dynamic range, white balance, back light compensation, gain control, motion detection and even 10X digital zoom. What makes this even nicer is there are no buttons on the camera or joysticks on the cable to manipulate. It comes ready to use an RS485 connection to your DVR so you can operate it remotely from there. The picture is very good, the camera operates very well. You really need to see it to believe it.
