I'm in charge of security for a gated community. This property has a very long entry way (I'd call it a drive way but it is really longer than that, more like a street). This entry way is contained on both sides so that once you enter you basically either continue down the road to the entrance gate or turn around and go back out the way you came. The property manager decided that it would be best if we located a camera along this entry way to capture license plates as cars entered from the public road. We purchased this camera and had it installed along the entry way so that it would capture the plates of cars approaching the gate so the security office could identify the approaching vehicle before it arrived at the entrance gate. I'm not exactly sure how the CCTV specialists installed the camera, but it is quite a distance from the security office at the gate. The camera works great! It does an excellent job of capturing the license plates of most all of the vehicles that enter, and the way they have it set up it does so almost as soon as the vehicle turns onto the entry way from the road. I know they installed at least one infrared illuminator light also so the camera works perfectly day and night. Rarely, do vehicles get past this camera without their plate being recorded.
If you are looking for a security camera that can capture license plates of cars and other vehicles in motion, this Security Camera King camera is a good choice. There's no question about the quality of the video recording and display with this camera at a resolution of 680TVL. Colors are accurate as well. We noticed this when we compared the captures of license plates and compared what we saw on our monitor to the real thing in our hands. As a word of warning, think carefully about how and where you are going to use this camera before purchasing a lens then purchase the correct type. A varifocal lens with the wrong focal lengths can utterly destroy the high speed license capture capabilities of this camera. This camera has got a pretty sensitive sensor (I would think it would have to, to be able to capture plates on moving vehicles) so it has a food minimum light rating of 0.03 LUX for color and with the ICR as low as 0.005 LUX in black and white. Turn on the Sense Up feature and you can drop it down to as low as 0.0001 LUX and you can also use infrared illuminators to enhance the license plate capture experience. The camera comes with OSD button controls on the camera but you can also use the RS485 wire connectors to access the OSD remotely from your DVR. The OSD has features that can be controlled like wide dynamic range, gain control, back light compensation, Sense Up and many others. I like the way this camera performs and I would recommend its use to others.

I must admit I was a little skeptical when we first considered purchasing this camera. It's not easy to get a good appreciation for the way a high speed license plate capture camera works without seeing it in action. (Hint-Hint Security Camera King, a video of this camera in action would be very beneficial). However, after receiving the camera and using it I must admit it works pretty well.

This camera, when set up and configured properly can easily catch license plates on automobiles at least, at speeds of 70 mile per hour plus during the daytime and the same at night time. Although the specifications state daytime vehicle speeds of up to 125 mph and night time speeds of up to 90 mph I can't attest to those maximums because we have never tried it at those high speeds. The camera is a true day/night camera and has a good lowlight sensitivity rating of 0.03 LUX in color and 0.0005 LUX in black and white which can be amended by using the Sens Up feature to boost the sensitivity to as much as 0.0001 LUX. Luckily, the camera has self defined shutter speeds that can adjust for the lighting conditions to maintain high speed capture as much as possible. The camera has an On Screen Display menu system with quite an extensive array of feature that can be turned on/off or readjusted from factory settings. I found that experimentation with the OSD features for each set of conditions I am using the camera in yields the best results. I have recorded them for future reference to save a little time in the future. Some of the features include wide dynamic range, back light compensation, fog reduction and 3D or 2D digital noise reduction. We do a lot of road surveying and sampling and this camera has assisted us in performing those surveys. I only have one "complaint." Since the manufacturers know that often times the users of these cameras will be performing road or highway surveys, why can't they create a camera with a portable setup, including its own DVR?
Does really well with plate captures. You will need to invest some thought and time in mounting and set up but otherwise the camera does a really good job. OSD controls are on the back of the camera and can be used to enhance the plate capturing experience.
Good Camera -- Great For Catching Plates at Gates When They Don't Completely Stop

Security Camera King's TPSC-68CDNR-90 680 TVL High Speed License Plate Capture Camera is excellent at doing just exactly that, capturing license plates. We use it for our home owner association security team and have it set up at our entrance gate. The gate is not always guarded so cars are not always required to stop and check in but even when they "cruise" through the entrance the plates are almost always captured. Usually, the only time we miss a plate is if we don't have the camera aimed correctly or in other words, if the plate is in an odd location. We use this with a fairly strong but narrow beamed infrared illuminator and it does an excellent job at night too. The camera also has many different features, too numerous for me to mention all of them here. It is dual voltage so it can take 12 VDC or 24 VAC and it has an on screen display menu system that is used to set the camera up and adjust the electronic features to get the "right" shot. There are buttons on the back panel of the camera to operate the OSD. Get the right lens for this camera, mount it in the best location, and you won't hardly ever miss a plate!

It seems as if we have an unusual number of individuals that seem to think that when the 15 mph school zone signs are lit and blinking that they are there for decoration and have no true meaning. Our local police department has patrolled the areas on many occasions and written several tickets but on days when the cars are not visible the traffic goes back to high speed. I just don't think many of these people appreciate the danger to the young children on their way to and from school from speeding cars. After speaking with our local police chief we decided to purchase Security Camera Kings 680 TVL High-Speed License Plate Capture Camera. Between the camera's excellent ability to capture license plates and the Department of Highways generous contribution of a radar device (and posted signs about the camera and the radar) the majority of the vehicles that pass the school during the designated time now do so at a reasonable, within the legal limit speed. The camera works extremely well and integrates easily with the school's security camera system. It's a great idea and it is working well for us.

This camera was definitiely made for the purpose of capturing license plates. Not only can it capture license plates but it must have high shutter speeds because it can capture them with vehicles moving pretty fast. Security Camera King says it can capture them at speeds of up to 125 mph and I don't doubt it. We have used it for speeds up to about 70 mph and it works fine. It has 680 TVL resolution which is just about as fine as you can get without using a megapixel camera. It also has several features specifically geared toward license plate capture that help to enhance your recording such as head light compensation, fog reduction, and a mechanical IR filter. Incidentally, this camera works great with an IR illuminator. You'll need to purchase your lens separately so makes sure you know how you are going to use this camera before you purchase your lens to make sure you obtain the lens that does the best job for you.
Good Readings Even at Higher Rates of Vehicle Speed

As you may or may not know traffic surveys are a regular part of highway engineering. In the past, these surveys were often conducted with "teams" of individuals sitting in cars located in the median and on the shoulders of the road. Traffic counters, using a laptop computer, would record the various data as vehicles passed by them on the road. This typically has two down falls. First, these people were put in some considerable danger due to their location and the lack of motorists to focus on their driving activities. Second, statistics would incur a percentage of error due to the human element. As an traffic engineer for an independent traffic contractor, the 680 TVL High-speed License Plate Capture Camera has become a tool of choice for us in performing some of our surveys. Depending on the size of the roadway, vehicle frequency, etc. we can set up this camera to perform the highway surveys for us and a tremendous savings compared to human statistics recording. Used in certain metropolitan areas that usually contain some ambient night time lighting and a strong infrared illuminator, we can even use this camera at night. Our engineers have developed an algorithm that can be used in conjunction with the camera's recording to not only count vehicles, but often capture their license plates for vehicle State analysis. This camera works great, even on cars traveling at speeds in excess of 70 mph and I suspect our firm will be purchasing more of these in the future.
