Personally, I was torn between this camera and using a high quality high definition (like a 2 megapixel/1080p) camera, but I new my boss wouldn't go for the idea of paying for a whole new system just for the license plate capture, even though it is an integral part of our security system. I will say this much, the folks at Security Camera King were very helpful and not trying to drive a hard sale. I was a little unsure of this camera's performance when ordering it but after setting it up I must say that I am very impressed. It works very well for the camera type.

Good license plate capture camera. The features contained within the On Screen Display seem to be designed toward those needed for flawless license plate capture. We took this out of the box, attached the cables and lens and were ready to go. It wasn't until a few days later that we even bothered to tinker with the settings and realized we could improve the performance even more. Nice specialty camera.

This is a good camera license plate captures as we use it in our highway survey process (non law enforcement agency). It can be mounted on the dash of a vehicle or in other locations and the entire system including the DVR can be powered by the vehicle using an average power inverter. Although we use this for DOH surveys and other information data collection, after reading this morning news, maybe Security Camera King could see a few hindered of these to Hampton, Florida so they could use them to increase their speed trap ticket number beyond 12,698 for one year.......lol. Seriously, this is good camera which is designed for specific purpose and it doe perfrom very well.

This is a great camera for capturing vehicle license plates in motion. I can see where it would be a good fit for many applications including law enforcement, traffic control, traffic monitoring, and others. Although the camera has no on board infrared LEDs, it really doesn't need any because when using Sens-Up it has excellent low light sensitivity. The plate capture is clear, sharp, and accurate. It may take you a little experimentation with the feature settings on the OSD but with RS485 remote control capability this isn't much of a hassle at all. There's really no need to worry about requiring professional installation because Security Camera King's technical support department helped us get ours up and running and it is very effective.

This is the kind of camera you want for capturing license plates on vehicles that are moving and stationary. It comes with a host of features that you can manipulate to fit your particular situation and almost guarantee the capture of the plates you need. It has good low light illumination qualities for both color and black and white and a fast shutter for capturing those plates on the go.

Good camera. It does what the specs say it will do and it produces a good clear, color video capture. We use this with a mobile set-up for monitoring vehicles for state road surveys along with our employees using laptops. We haven't had any problems with this unit and it works well. It's got excellent low light sensitivity and a fast shutter speed so it can capture moving license plates without much blur. It's rated for .03 lux in color and .01 lux in black in white or .005 lux with the ICE but you can crank it all the way up to an unbelievable 0.0001 lux with the sens up function. The huge wide dynamic range this camera has really accentuates the license plate capturing abilities. The On Screen Display even has a fog reduction feature which is pretty amazing.

I'm in charge of security for a gated community. This property has a very long entry way (I'd call it a drive way but it is really longer than that, more like a street). This entry way is contained on both sides so that once you enter you basically either continue down the road to the entrance gate or turn around and go back out the way you came. The property manager decided that it would be best if we located a camera along this entry way to capture license plates as cars entered from the public road. We purchased this camera and had it installed along the entry way so that it would capture the plates of cars approaching the gate so the security office could identify the approaching vehicle before it arrived at the entrance gate. I'm not exactly sure how the CCTV specialists installed the camera, but it is quite a distance from the security office at the gate. The camera works great! It does an excellent job of capturing the license plates of most all of the vehicles that enter, and the way they have it set up it does so almost as soon as the vehicle turns onto the entry way from the road. I know they installed at least one infrared illuminator light also so the camera works perfectly day and night. Rarely, do vehicles get past this camera without their plate being recorded.

If you are looking for a security camera that can capture license plates of cars and other vehicles in motion, this Security Camera King camera is a good choice. There's no question about the quality of the video recording and display with this camera at a resolution of 680TVL. Colors are accurate as well. We noticed this when we compared the captures of license plates and compared what we saw on our monitor to the real thing in our hands. As a word of warning, think carefully about how and where you are going to use this camera before purchasing a lens then purchase the correct type. A varifocal lens with the wrong focal lengths can utterly destroy the high speed license capture capabilities of this camera. This camera has got a pretty sensitive sensor (I would think it would have to, to be able to capture plates on moving vehicles) so it has a food minimum light rating of 0.03 LUX for color and with the ICR as low as 0.005 LUX in black and white. Turn on the Sense Up feature and you can drop it down to as low as 0.0001 LUX and you can also use infrared illuminators to enhance the license plate capture experience. The camera comes with OSD button controls on the camera but you can also use the RS485 wire connectors to access the OSD remotely from your DVR. The OSD has features that can be controlled like wide dynamic range, gain control, back light compensation, Sense Up and many others. I like the way this camera performs and I would recommend its use to others.

I must admit I was a little skeptical when we first considered purchasing this camera. It's not easy to get a good appreciation for the way a high speed license plate capture camera works without seeing it in action. (Hint-Hint Security Camera King, a video of this camera in action would be very beneficial). However, after receiving the camera and using it I must admit it works pretty well.
