700 TVL Dual Voltage Infrared Day/Night Vandal Dome Security Camera
Review by Luke Merrill, M, M, & P Security on Apr 19, 2013
I was talking to Security Camera King's support department not long ago and I was telling them, as an installer, how much I liked this camera. They suggested I write a review for it so I read many of the different reviews for items on their on-line catalog and figured I could take a stab at it too. The reason why I like this camera so much is because it has just about everything an analog vandal dome camera could have to offer. In other words, this camera is the top of the line when it comes to features, options, etc. and it delivers a great quality video picture. It pushes the limit on analog resolution capturing with 700TVL in color and 730TVL in black and white. It has all the good Sony electronics and it’s got a 2.8 to 12 mm varifocal lens. Even though the camera is an infrared LED illuminated night camera, the sensor still has a low light sensitivity of 0.001 LUX and it produces good video in low light without a lot of digital noise. The On Screen Display (OSD) menu is also loaded with features and to further enhance that feature on its own, it can be connected via the RS485 output on your DVR so it can be operated remotely by or from the DVR. It’s not the cheapest priced vandal dome security camera, but it certainly is one of the highest analog quality cameras you’ll find.

This is a professional type security and surveillance camera all the way! I'm extremely happy with the way it performs and the video is very clear and color correct. The camera has a 700 TVL color resolution and an actual higher resolution of 730TVL in black and white. Once it is mounted in can be turned and twisted within the casing to aim it just about anywhere you need to aim it. The lens is a 2.8 - 12mm varifocal lens, another feature that I consider that adds to the term "professional" camera. This allows you to adjust your view from wide angle overview to a narrower zoom. That camera has a great low light sensitivity of 0.001 LUX without using the infrared LEDs and if you do, you can get up to a 100 foot range in total darkness in infrared mode (another feature I consider "professional"). It also comes with Security Camera King's "Smart Dial" technology that allows to turn off the LEDs completely so you can use the camera as a true day/night camera. It also has an On Screen Display (OSD) menu with many features that include wide dynamic range (especially important if you use the camera outdoors or near windows), digital noise reduction (especially important for low light shots) and Back Light Compensation to name a few. The feature that I really like on this camera though is the fact that the OSD can be operated remotely by connecting it to a pair of wires that attach to the RS485 connection. (To me, that's the "professional" icing on the cake.) It also got some versatility when it comes to different systems because it is dual voltage. Would I recommend this camera to others? Heck, yeah.

As far as analog domes cameras go, I don't think you can get much better than this. This camera starts off on the right foot with a Sony Super HAD II CCD; these sensors always seem to capture a high quality video picture. And I must admit, this one is as about a high of quality you are going to get without going to a network megapixel because it has a 700 TVL color resolution and a 730 TVL black and white resolution. In addition, it has a 2.8 to 12 mm lens so you can choose a wide angle overview type shot or zoom in and get narrower. The CCD is pretty sensitive and is rated down to 0.001 LUX ambient light but it also has its own built in infrared LED illuminators that can give it a range of up to 100 feet in total darkness. This is one of those infrared "Smart" cameras too; that is, it has a "Smart" dial that will allow you to turn off the infrared LEDs so the camera can operate as a true day/night camera since it has such a good low light sensitivity (just use the Sense Up feature). It comes with an On Screen Display menu system that is used to control or set many of the functions and features of the camera. The OSD can be controlled with the cover off using the micro-button-joystick inside the casing or you can also hook it up to the DVR's RS485 connection as well. You'll be able to control features like wide dynamic range, digital noise reduction, back light compensation and many more. Finally, this camera is dual voltage so you can use it on 12 VDC or 24 VAC power supplies. The latter makes it easy to use as an "add on" to an existing 24 VAC system or is you have to use a very long power supply run. It's a high quality camera that even comes with a 2 year warranty. I'd definitely recommend it.
700 TVL Dual Voltage Infrared Day/Night Vandal Dome Security Camera The Epitome Of Flexibility!
Review by Bobby Totten on Feb 15, 2013
This isn't one of the more lesser expensive vandal come cameras. However, when you consider the features that it carries, it's understandable why. If you can afford to equip your whole system with these cameras I would recommend it. On the other hand, you may want to consider purchasing this camera for special applications. Security Camera King's VD-EL700IR100L2812 is a very flexible camera, adding to that flexibility by being able to utilize dual voltage for either 12 VDC or 24 VAC power supply systems. Like most domes this camera is normally mounted on the ceiling or could be mounted flatly on a wall. But to increase the justification for me using the term "flexible," I'll point out that you can even purchase a separate wall mart that extends the camera in a "hanging" position as if it were mounted to the ceiling only from the wall. The camera produces a super great video recording , but then again why shouldn't it? It has the Sony Super HAD II CCD which is know for producing high quality video. In addition to the CCD, the camera pumps out high resolution video at 700 TVL color and 730TVL in black and white! The camera also has a 2.8 to 12mm varifocal lens that lets you go from a wide angle point of view to a narrower zoom at a distance, offering even more flexibility. This camera has built in infrared LEDs that permit infrared black and white video recording for a range of up to 100 feet. But, if you don't like infrared or the monochrome color display of the infrared mode, the camera has a "Smart Dial" which you can use to turn off the LEDs to make it a true day/night camera (0.001 LUX minimum illumination). Flexibility again, check. Last but not least, the camera has a pretty extensive list of features that can be adjusted by using its On Screen Display menu (OSD). The OSD can be controlled by the camera's built in button joystick controller, or even better yet (flexibility again) it has an RS485 connection for control of the OSD from the DVR. Some of the OSD features include the all important wide dynamic range and back light compensation, digital noise reduction, Sense Up, and even head light compensation. Like I said in the beginning, this camera is the epitome of flexibility in dome cameras. You will be satisfied!
700 TVL Dual Voltage Infrared Day/Night Vandal Dome Security Camera
Review by Bill Mixon on Feb 01, 2013
This camera is just about the "absolute" camera for analog cameras with its 700 TVL color resolution and 730 TVL black and white resolution. The picture is great, and if it isn't, you can usually make it that way by using the On Screen Display to adjust the enhancement features. I had no problem installing the dome, it's a typical dome mount with screws and anchor insets included. One screw hole is close to some wires so you need to make sure you don't "slip" with your screwdriver and damage them. Like many domes, once you take off the casing cover you can access the lens itself and adjust in just about any direction and the varifocal lens is adjusted by sliding a lever inside the case. Also, if you remove the camera insert from the case, on the back of the camera board is the spot for adjusting the infrared LEDs. This camera is just about the maximum in vandal dome versatility, I have to admit. It is an indoor/outdoor vandal dome. You have the capability of using the infrared LEDS at full power or reduced power to maximize your infrared mode video captures. However, if you do have just a little available light (0.001 LUX) you can shut the IR LEDs off completely and convert the camera over to a true color day/night camera. Some of the OSD features really do help improve the video capture quality including the wide dynamic range, back light compensation, and digital noise reduction/Sens up (especially for non-IR mode use). The camera does have a function called Head Light Compensation but I haven't used it so I don't know how good it works. It is also a dual voltage camera so it makes a good "add on" for any system. Also, I like the fact that it has a two year (instead of the standard 1 year) warranty. If you can afford this camera these are the domes to have to for greatest flexibility in all applications.

Nice camera! This about tops out the TVL models of vandal resistant dome cameras. This camera has a great picture with 700 TVL color resolution and 730 TVL black and white. As far as features go, this camera has got more bells and whistles than a San Francisco trolley car! Let's start with the lens. The camera lens is 2.8 - 12 mm varifocal lens so you can go wide or tight. The camera has very good low light sensitivity as low as 0.001 LUX but in addition it also goes infrared with its built in infrared LEDs giving it a range in total darkness of about 100 feet. However, if you insist on keeping the camera a true day/night camera for use in environments with at least a little light, it has an "Infrared LED Smart Dial" that let's you turn off the LEDs. The camera has a OSD that can also be connected to your DVRs RS485 port with a pair of wires so that you can control the OSD from the DVR. Just some of the OSD controllable features include wide dynamic range, back light compensation, sens up, and digital noise reduction. As an added bonus, the camera is dual voltage so you can easily add it to any system. It also comes with a 2 year warranty. The price isn't all that cheap, but for everything that the camera has it is definitely worth it!
The 700 TVL dual voltage infrared day/night vandal dome security camera stretches the outer reaches of TVL resolution by providing a 700 TVL color resolution and a 730 TVL black and white resolution recording. It's also got a 2.8 - 12 mm varifocal lens. The camera has its own on-board infrared LEDs and has an infrared range in total darkness of about 100 feet. It also has what they call an LED "Smart Dial" that allows you to turn off the LEDs completely so you can convert the camera over to a non-LED illuminated true day/night camera. Like most higher quality dome cameras it has an On Screen Display menu system that allows you to configure the camera but the nice thing about this camera is that it has a pair of wires to connect to the RS485 port on your DVR so you can control the OSD from the comfort of the DVR (instead of doing a balancing act on a ladder with a portable monitor and the camera). If you need it, it's got dual voltage too so you can run it on AC or DC systems.

This is a high quality camera with a price that is consistent with the excellent video recording reproduction and all the various options that are available to you. It's also a nice vandal resistant camera in that it solidly built, durable, and once mounted in place on the ceiling has the appearance of a one-piece unit. The optional wall mount is convenient if it is needed however it can open up the camera's vulnerability to vandalism (on the other hand nothing is safe from a baseball bat). Getting back to the features, this camera offers 700 TVL resolution recording in color and an astounding 730 TVL resolution in black and white. It's got a high quality Sony HAD II CCD that is nicely low light sensitive down to about .001 LUX. If that's not enough when things get dim or in conditions of total darkness, the camera's infrared mode kicks in and the infrared LEDs fire up to give you a maximum range of about 100 feet in total darkness. Another "darkness' feature is the Security Camera King Infrared LED Smart Dial which can turn off the LEDs and convert the camera over to a true day/night camera. (Of course you'll need to crank up the Sense Up feature using the camera's on screen display control). Speaking of which, the OSD can be controlled by a built in joystick in the video line or you can hook up a pair of wires to the RS485 port on the camera and control the OSD from the "comfort" of your DVR. Some of the electronic features that you can access using the OSD include wide dynamic range, back light compensation, digital noise reduction, and the already mentioned Sense Up. It's a great camera that's covered by a 2 year warranty and oh, did I mention it is also dual voltage?

Pick a feature! This camera is really loaded with them. The picture quality is excellent in color at 700 TVL and even a little sharper in black and white at 730 TVL! Security Camera King's VD-EL700IR100L2812 vandal dome camera is a great buy considering all the options it offers. The varifocal lens works great to take wide shots at 2.8 mm or zoom in to the full 12 mm focal length. This saves time and effort when mounting the camera and allows you some flexibility in as much as where to mount it. The camera has an interesting infrared/low light combination mode. You can use the camera strictly as an infrared camera at night or in total darkness in conjunction with the infrared LEDs and you can obtain about a 100 foot range of 730TVL black and white infrared video. Or, you can use the infrared LED smart dial to turn off the LEDs completely, use the on screed display menu to crank up the Sens Up feature, and you can use the camera as a true day/night color camera if that's important to you. The video cable has a built in joystick control for the OSD or you can run a pair of wires to the camera and use the RS485 connection to control the OSD from your DVR. There are a lot of video enhancing features and the camera is dual voltage too. Great product with lots of options.
