700TVL Infrared Day/Night Varifocal Vandal Dome Security Camera
Review by Micah Johnston on Mar 19, 2014
I like true "domed" security cameras because I have found it easier in the event of an act of vandalism on the camera to repair it. If some smart alec spray paints my dome or tries to break it, I can usually replace the dome without a problem, a heck of lot cheaper and easier than replacing a camera lens or the entire camera. This is a fairly priced good quality camera that produces what I would call a better than average video. Once the case or dome is opened and you access the camera it appears to be rather fragile, but with that case and dome in place it is certainly very sturdy and rugged. The camera has a varifocal lens which can only be adjusted with the dome cover off, but hey, at least they thought to attach a safety cable to the cover so it doesn't go crashing to the floor when you want to make adjustments. The OSD is handy and the infrared mode works well. It's good over all vandal dome and I would recommend it.

700TVL Infrared Day/Night Varifocal Vandal Dome Security Camera
Review by T. Rieman on Feb 01, 2014
It may not look it once the cover is off, but this is a pretty solid camera. Good color video as well as black and white in infrared mode. This Sony Super HAD II CCD and Effio-E DSP is a good component combination for a quality video recording. It's too bad there isn't some way to adjust the varifocal lens with the cover on, but I haven't seen any models of this type where that can be done. Automatic infrared mode works okay as well as the OSD. The threaded knockout for conduit is especially useful for applications where cables are run along walls and ceilings in conduit and not hidden behind structures.

Pretty good vandal dome. The 700TVL resolution video is clear and sharp with above average quality. Do it yourselfers that are not used to working with this type of camera may find it to be a bit challenging when making installation adjustments because the entire camera mechanism is seated behind the clear dome cover so the adjustments must be made with the cover off. However, I will give Security Camera King credit for providing a wire safety cable that is connected to the dome and camera base to keep from dropping the cover during this process.

Not a bad camera. This camera has a solid case and hard dome for protection (although when you remove the dome my initial reaction was that it was fragile but I was wrong). The dome cover comes with a small wire cable so that you can make adjustments with the camera mounted in place without dropping the dome, but I suggest covering it with a light cloth just to keep from scratching it anyway. The varifocal lens works fine and the On Screen Display does too and give you the opportunity to correct for unusual lighting situations.

Produces An Excellent Video But May Be Challenging To Adjust

Review by Ed Forcell on Aug 04, 2013
This is an excellent video quality producing camera. The video is detailed, sharp, color accurate and pretty much right on the mark. The camera does well in infrared mode as well although I'm not sure I get the full 50 foot range. The camera also has an OSD so you can make adjustments and set features that will help with lighting issues and other operating conditions. I am a do-it-yourselfer that uses this camera at my business (so I installed my system.) The only thing about the camera that I'm not real crazy about is the initial mounting adjustments. Perhaps professional CCTV installers are used to this and have no problem with it, but in order to aim, zoom, and focus the camera you have to do it with the dome cover off using flat-head set screws. It was a bit awkward for me, although definitely "do-able." At least the dome cover has a wire safety cable that is attached to the base of the camera to keep it from falling off while making adjustments (but it can dangle in the way of the camera). All in all, it's a good operating camera.

700TVL Infrared Day/Night Varifocal Vandal Dome Security Camera

Got no complaints from me on this camera. This seems to be a nice quality dome camera. It's really kind of hard to beat the quality you get out of the current Sony Super Had II CCD along with their Effio-E digital signal processor. At 700TVL it's difficult to find an analog dome camera that can produce a better picture unless you're talking about a specialty use. Along with the great resolution and quality picture, this dome has a 2.8 to 12mm varifocal lens that helps zoom and close in on your shot if needed. The camera has an On Screen Display menu that includes adjustable features like most usual video picture controls but also has some electronic enhancements like digital wide dynamic range, back light compensation, and privacy zones. You'll get about a 50 foot range in infrared mode when used in total darkness and that video is clear as anything too. It's just a good quality camera, even the dome cover has a stranded wire mini cable to keep it connected to the base when performing service.

I’ve been a CCTV installer for years and I have seen cameras and recorders come and go and I anticipate that I will continue to see them come and go for many years to come (I hope). I’ve been dealing with Security Camera King for over 4 years now (TechVison, TechPro) and I have found that their products range from good to excellent quality. I also applaud their support department as their service has always been exemplary and I’m sure they are this way not only with professional CCTV people but individuals that are do it your selfers as well. If you are looking for a basic, inexpensive camera that will do the job with out a lot of cost, I would not recommend this camera. This camera, though more expensive than a “standard” automatic camera provides a high quality video recording and picture and is loaded with a lot of electronic features that are adjustable that allows the user to adapt it to a variety of challenging (especially lighting) issues. I must admit that I am partial to the Sony sensor/chip combinations and this camera also has the Sony Super HAD II 960H CCD with the Sony Effio-E digital signal processor chip; it provides an excellent quality capture. The camera also has a 2.8 to 12mm adjustable varifocal lens that can be used to further enhance your video shot and it does pretty good at reaching the listed 50 foot infrared range in total darkness. As a matter of fact, this camera is pretty darn low light sensitive as it is without using infrared illumination. There are multiple features that can be controlled by the OSD. Good camera!

The 700 TVL Infrared Day/Night Varifocal Vandal Dome Isn't A Bad Buy For The Price!

This is a pretty decent camera. Rather basic, intrinsic to the functions that it has, but it does produce a nice quality high resolution video recording. I'm very satisfied with the camera myself, especially in the price range that it is at so don't misunderstand me, but there is just nothing "special" that "jumps" right out at me about this camera other than the high quality video display. However, on the other side of the fence, there are several good features about this camera too. It's got the Sony Super HADII Effio combination that produces great video, a 2.8 - 12 mm varifocal lens, and an infrared mode with about a 50 foot range in total darkness. It also has an OSD that is packed with a lot of adjustable features including one of the most important, wide dynamic range, and the dome cover even has a safety cable that allows the cover to hang when you are making any adjustments to the camera. That's good, because in order to make any adjustments to the positions of the camera or the lens, you have to take the cover off (which I'm not real crazy about). I would still recommend this camera to a friend because the quality of the video and the features available are usually associated with cameras that are in a higher price category.

I just installed a couple of these new Security Camera King 700 TVL Infrared Day/Night Varifocal Vandal Domes and they are pretty sweet! Don't be surprised when you open op the case and find hardly anything there though, that's how powerful the small electronics are. These cameras produce a high quality, color true video with a color resolution at 700 TVL. They've got their own built in infrared LED illuminators that give them a range of about 50 feet also. On top of those two features, another big feature is its sensor chip combo and the varifocal lens. This camera has the Sony Super HAD II CCD with the Effio-E digital signal processor. Don't ask me why, but I'm biased toward CCD's more than I am CMOS's. I can't really say why, I just think that most of the time they capture a higher quality picture. The camera is a standard type easy to mount dome camera. It comes with an On Screen Display menu that includes many important picture enhancing features including wide dynamic range. It's pretty compact inside the case but it's a good quality camera.

700 TVL Infrared Day/Night Varifocal Dome Security Camera

I just installed two of your brand new 700 TVL Infrared Day/Night Varifocal Vandal Dome Security Cameras (VD-TP700IR50L2812-W) and they work great! The produce a really clear, detailed video recording that is truly impressive whether it is in color or black and white. When I was mounting the cameras I took the camera case apart (removed the dome hood) and once the dome was removed I thought, "Where's the camera?" I'm so used to seeing all the circuitry and the printed boards inside a dome camera that for a minute I thought it was missing something. IT really has a nice, simplistic inner design to it. I like the thumb screws for adjusting the aim on the camera; they are easy to use and work well. I'm not sure about the adjustments for the lens, though. I kind of like to have adjustments on the outside case that are easy to get to. This camera has two "collars" around the camera on the inside of the case that you turn to zoom and to focus. They have a flat head screwdriver set screw. There are good and bad characteristics to both, I guess. If adjustments can be made on the outside of the case, than that could lead to unwanted settings made by others. If they are inside the case, like this, they are basically tamper proof. However, I will say you made up for the slightly awkward adjustment feature by providing the dome with an attached safety cable to the case. A good idea stolen from the PTZs no doubt. The Sony Super HAD IICCD and the EFFIO-E digital signal processor as always, will not disappoint you and do not skimp on video picture quality. The infrared mode works well to with the 50 foot range being about right. Nice new product!
