700TVL Infrared Dual Voltage Super WDR Varifocal Vandal Dome Security Camera
Review by Robert Grafton on Sep 14, 2014
These cameras are great for use in store fronts with large open windows that create an environment for a lot of challenging lighting conditions. When the front door opens to your store and the sunlight shines so bright that you can’t see the person(s) coming in, don’t think that your security camera can see them any better. Unless it is one like this with the true Wide Dynamic Range from the dual scan Sony CCD. The camera has lots of other useful features that I like as well including a 100 foot infrared range, and a lot of adjustable digital enhancements via the On Screen Display menu. Excellent video picture quality. I rate it at five stars.

I'm partial to CCDs and especially Sony's sensors combined with their Effio digital signal processors. This camera has both of course and a dual scanning true wide dynamic range CCD so a lot of your lighting problems that might otherwise exist are taken care of by this technology. When you have a customer that requires protection in a particular area and there is no way to get around the a variable lighting situation, especially one where back lighting creates deep, dark shadow images, there is nothing better than a quality dual scanning true wide dynamic range sensor to solve the problem. Of course that's not the only feature of this camera but it is one of the best. Others include a fairly comprehensive OSD that contains many electronic features that can be very useful and the camera has a 10-0 foot infrared range with its own on board IR LEDs but it also has its own "Smart IR" feature that can help with those shots. The varifocal lens and the dual voltage only add to the versatility. There are cheaper cameras out there, but I am partial to this one and have used it with many customers without fail, so I have no problem recommending it to others.

We ordered this camera on line using a credit card and no "human" interaction and we received the order within the week. The contents of the package were packed nicely and securely and there was no damage to the camera. The camera may seem a little pricey but once you consider everything that comes with it in the way of features you realize that you've got quite the machine on your hands. To start off with, for analog transmission cameras (i.e. not megapixels) this camera produces a nice, detailed, clear and colorful video picture. We record ours on a Security Camera King Ultimate DVR so we record at D1 at 30 frames per second and get really good results. One of the problems we have had in the past with the camera that this one has replaced has been changing lighting conditions, especially those caused by various natural positions of the sun. Nothings worse than missing an important video image due to over cast shadows from backlighting conditions that are often beyond your control. We never once gave a thought about it, until it finally happened to us. So we decided to try replacing the camera we had, which didn't have true dual scan wide dynamic range with this camera. Wow! What a difference. The varifocal lens, the infrared range of 100 feet and the Smart IR options are just extra benefits for us. If you need a true dual scan CCD wide dynamic range dome camera, this should do the trick.

If you can't get a clear security video with this dome camera, you might as well give up. This is a high quality camera with all the features required to make your lousy video recording skill work....lol. Seriously, this camera is a beauty. The 700TVL Sony dual scan CCD/Effio-P digital signal processor do an excellent job of creating color (and black and white) video. Since the sensor is a dual scan true wide dynamic range type sensor, it really does help to eliminate the majority of most challenging lighting problems especially those dealing with shadows and changing light intensity conditions. And if you can't mount the camera in the exact spot that would make the best capture, the 2.8 to 12 mm varifocal lens can help that situation. The IR side of the camera gets every bit of the 100 foot range and Security Camera King has their smart IR feature integrated into this version so you can control the intensity of the IR LEDs. Between the quality of the electronic components and the programming features on the OSD, you can't get it wrong with this camera.

For a standard 700TVL resolution analog camera the cost on this camera is a little high, however this isn't a "standard" 700TVL resolution analog camera. I originally purchased this camera because of the vandal dome protection but more so because of the 100 foot infrared range in total darkness and the Smart IR feature. However when I first installed this camera I played around with the On Screen Display features to see what kind of an effect they had and I was truly amazed by the dual scan true wide dynamic range (WDR) feature. Obviously, I am not a professional CCTV person so I really didn't know what I was doing, but I purchased this camera for use in the front of my store and I am grateful I did now. The WDR does an excellent job of compensating for shadows that are created by strong light. With normal cameras with no WDR or the "digital" WDR objects in the shadows of this light may be obscured or even un seen, but not with this camera. Very impressive and well worth the cost considering the quality of the video produced and all of the features available.

We ordered this camera on a Monday and received it at our office before the end of that week. Camera is easy to mount and adjust and produces top notch color or black and white surveillance video. This camera has a varifocal lens (2.8 to 12mm) so it gives you a little liberty as far as zooming is concerned. It also has the ability to use 12VDC or 24VAC, in fact, it seems like it has just about everything. The camera has a set of powerful infrared LEDs that can illuminate a range of about 100 feet which works well for us in our warehouse. Another useful feature is the Security Camera King "Smart IR." Using the on screen display you can actually turn the infrared LEDs completely off and use the camera as a true day/night camera. The biggest selling point for us besides the great quality video though is the wide dynamic range function. Our warehouse is built with long rectangular windows that surround the perimeter of the warehouse walls allowing sunlight in from all directions. The true dual scan wide dynamic range on this camera does an excellent job of tackling the lighting dynamics that are caused by this architectural feature. Therefore, where other cameras may lose the shot due to shadowing or bright lights, this camera makes up for it with the dual scan wide dynamic range. We'll give it a five star rating without any problem.

This is a top notch camera when it comes to security video recording. There is only one issue that I think could be improved upon and I'll get to that in a minute. First, besides the great 700TVL resolution clarity that the color and black and white recordings have, the camera comes with a 2.8 to 12mm varifocal lens. Between the varifocal lens and the high resolution, you shouldn't have any problems with making out some details or identifying individuals. In addition the camera is dual voltage which means if you run a 24 VAC system or a 12 VDC system it will work on either. I actually use both. I have a couple of extremely long cable runs, in which this camera is one of them, and instead of using the 12 VDC power supply, I use a 24 VAC power supply to prevent voltage drops due to the long cable run. The camera also has a great infrared mode with its own on-board IR LEDs that give it a range of about 100 feet in total darkness. Besides all of these "physical" features, the camera also comes with true dual scan wide dynamic range. Digital wide dynamic range is better than no WDR at all, but when it is a true dual scan WDR it really creates some create video out of what you would probably refer to as lousy lighting conditions. Finally, the camera also has a great On Screen Display menu system with a lot of features that can further enhance the quality of your video capturing. This is where I thin there could be just a little improvement. This is a great camera that produces really good video footage and you can tell it is an upper end camera. That being said, you'd think they'd make the camera with a remote OSD for the price and category the camera is in, but you have to make the adjustments manually with the camera case open using the on-board OSD joystick button. Other than that, it is great!
