When I came to the site to write my review I see that this camera is currently out of stock at Security Camera King which is unfortunate if you are looking for a superior bullet camera. I purchased this camera (actually 2 of them) several months ago and I haven't had an issue with them at all. In fact, the video quality is superlative if you ask me. The camera is loaded with several features that just make it a "universal" type kind of bullet camera. Not only does it include a dual scan CCD for true wide dynamic range capture but the darn thing has a good 250 foot infrared range too! On top of that, it also compensates for the IR so that long range shots are bright enough while the power of the IR LEDs aren't too strong for closer shots causing them to be washed out. Even though it's an IR camera, the sensor still has good low light sensitivity too. The OSD has a lo0t of usual features and the camera is even dual voltage. I haven't had any problems with either of mine and they work great.

700TVL Sony Dual Scan Weatherproof Dual Voltage IR Varifocal Bullet Security Camera
Review by Larry Garr on Mar 16, 2014
I'm not always the best for words so instead of writing a long dissertation on all the features and options of the camera let me just say that I purchased it to add to my Ultimate system. I have an 8 channel Ultimate DVR with 6 cameras connected to it (7 now counting this one). I purchased this camera to satisfy a specific purpose and was hopeful that it would do the job. It is doing the job just fine. If you are considering the purchase of this camera, know this. Security Camera King is a very reputable dealer that does a fine job of making quality equipment available at the best possible price. Not only that but they have a technical support staff that is like no other and will see to it that if you have a problem, it will be solved or they won't stop until it is. The camera works great, if y our worried about the quality, remember not only is it sold by Security Camera King but it also has Sony internal electronic parts. I just don't see how you could go wrong.

700 TVL Sony Dual Scan Weatherproof Dual Voltage IR Varifocal Bullet Security Camera
Review by Dr. James Montgomery, PhD. on Jan 29, 2014
This is a high quality video camera of the along transmission type (700TVL resolution). Video quality is extremely high both in color and in black and white and the resolution of the video can be augmented by the zoom action of the varifocal lens (2.8 - 12MM focal length). Granted, the zoom power is not tremendous but it still provides for centering a shot and some zooming. The camera is also dual voltage, although we use the 12V DC option. I suppose some people may use it for a 24V AC system but I suspect the major use for the 24V AC option is for long cable runs (DC current encounters significant voltage drops directly proportional to length that the electricity is carried. AC current demonstrates better performance in this regard by demonstrating significantly less voltage drops per the same amount of distance.) However, I would assume that aside from these features the major motivating factor for purchase of this bullet camera would be the Wide Dynamic Range feature. That is precisely why we purchased it. This camera uses true wide dynamic range based on a dual scanning Sony CCD and uses the Sony Effio-P digital signal processor. We use this camera outside in an environment that is severely effected by low setting suns, especially those in wintertime, that cause shadows over important areas which require video protection. The true wide dynamic range using the dual scanning method compensates well for this condition and provides us with a clear articulate video regardless of the cast shadows. It is definitely a wise and useful investment. In addition, something needs to be said about the great service from Security Camera King's technical support department. This is a very good group of people.

700TVL Sony Dual Scan Weatherproof Dual Voltage IR Varifocal Bullet Security Camera
Review by George Greene on Jan 07, 2014
This is another camera that creates high quality color and black and white video, but I don't think it was designed specifically as a license plate capture camera. However, that being said, if you take the time to set it up properly you can make it a very useful license plate capture camera. The camera is loaded with features that make this possible including true double scan CCD technology for true wide dynamic range application. It also has a 2.8 -12mm varifocal lens which should give you some latitude in mounting options. It's advantageous over using a box camera because no extra purchase for an enclosure is required. It also has a strong infrared LED set (100 foot range) which may prove useful. Other useful features for plate capture include shutter control, head (high) light compensation and back light compensation. The biggest disadvantage is that the focus, zoom, and OSD controls are on the bottom of the camera so depending on how it is mounted, using them could be awkward.

700TVL Sony Dual Scan Weatherproof Dual Voltage IR Varifocal Bullet Security Camera
Review by Ken Pesche on Dec 22, 2013
This is a good "all-purpose" camera. I installed this on a small retail facility in a location where the afternoon sun creates one heck of a shadow cover. The shadow is caused by another structure which shades about have of the area of field of view. The true wide dynamic range (dual scanning) does a real nice job of compensating for the lighting differences. I call it a good "all purpose" camera because in addition to the WDR there are many other features accessible through the On Screen Display that allow you to do just about anything with this camera. The video quality is excellent, colors are true, and resolution is high giving pretty good details even for a non-megapixel type camera.

This was an update for an old camera that came with my all-in-a-box dvr/security system. The Sony set-up fast and easy, built like a tank and easy to mount. All the flexiblity and settings allowed me to use it in a way it was never intended and still get a stellar picture.
Optical zoom and manual focus were easy to adjust, even though other reviewers complained about it.
Is seemed very easy and reacted well to my inputs.
Overall it is a good quality camera for the money.

700 TVL Dual Scan Weatherproof Dual Voltage IR Varifocal Bullet Security Camera
Review by Melvin Stage on Oct 06, 2013
I am not a professional security camera installer and I have installed my own system on my business. I had one particularly challenging area that I couldn't leave without security camera surveillance, but no matter where I put the camera, the changing lighting conditions made shadows and washout a point of contention. Security Camera King Sales department suggested that I purchase this dual scan wide dynamic range bullet camera and said that it should be very helpful in eliminating those lighting problems. They were right. It works great and I am very satisfied.

I have to give Security Camera King credit as they do have a wide selection of video security camera
Review by Larry Byrtus on Sep 16, 2013
When you first take a look at this camera from Security Camera King it initially may appear a little pricey for a bullet security video camera even though it is a 700TVL resolution camera. But once you look a little closer, you will quickly realize that it is worth every penny. One of the biggest challenges with installing outdoor video security cameras is the changing, uncontrollable lighting conditions (unlike a constant light source like what occurs indoors). Sunny days, passing clouds, total cloud cover, shadows, sunrises and sunsets can all be a frustrating endeavor to try to correct for with a single camera and a "standard" setting. A good quality video security camera can compensate for these changes with automatic settings and digital wide dynamic range features. However, the digital dynamic range can only work "so well" kind of like digital zoom for zoom cameras. The true dual scan wide dynamic range feature on this bullet makes it far worth the price of the camera, let alone the varifocal lens, dual power, and smart IR functions and well as many others. I am very please with the performance of my camera and would recommend it's use to others, especially if they expect to encounter changing and challenging lighting issues.

You can easily put down over $300 for a license plate capture camera or you can purchase this one and with some fine adjusting, capture license plates for half that price. Since this camera is weatherproof you can mount it just about anywhere as well (ours is on a pole low to the ground, near our entrance). We ordered the camera on line and received it in the same week. It was easy to mount and it works well with our D1 resolution Ultimate Security Camera King DVR. The true wide dynamic wide range is definitely a plus in managing license plate capture due to varying lighting conditions. The varifocal lens gives you some zooming room to adjust your shot for license plate capture perfect framing. It's also dual voltage although we use a 12 volt system. I did have a few issues trying to set the camera up the way I wanted using the On Screen Display and some of its features so I contacted Security Camera King's technical support department for help. This is a great group of individuals. They really know their products and have experience with working with them. In addition, they are eager to help you solve your problems so you can get on with your recording. I got excellent support for a very good camera!

Not only can it get hotter than Hades here, but the bright sun can be a troubling issue when trying to install a security video camera system too. For a high quality set up, especially for outside use, wide dynamic range is nearly a given for this area. I've used many digital wide dynamic range cameras in the past and they have done fairly well. But this dual scanning (non-digitally enhanced) wide dynamic range works great! The camera has some other features that come with it as what I consider to be a bonus too. In addition to capturing a 700TVL resolution video that seems to be color correct, is very clear, and smooth, the camera has its own OSD and a 2.8 to 12mm varifocal lens too. The zoom and focus adjustment knobs are located externally but are placed in such a way that vandalistic tampering should be an issue. You can also control the strength of the infrared LEDS to prevent washout at close ranges.
