700TVL Ultra High Resolution Day/Night Indoor Dome IR Security Camera
Review by McCreel Riley (Maryland USA) on May 17, 2013
This is a nice camera and you can tell it is designed for professional results. I couldn't make up my mind which dome I wanted to purchase so I talked to the staff and Security Camera King and they suggested this model. It's not exactly cheap in price, but it IS loaded with features and options. Besides that, the video footage it produces is really grand, especially for an analog camera. I was surprised to see that in addition to the 700 TVL color resolution, the black and white bumps up a bit to 730 TVL. Mounting the camera is a pretty standard process and the lens is a 2.8 to 12mm varifocal lens so it gives you some latitude as far as where you mount the camera. Another nice feature of the camera in regard to mounting is that it included a small jumper cable on a BNC connector. The camera has a servicing port inside the case that you can connect to this, so that you don't have to disturb any other connections when you are mounting and installing the camera (provided you have a portable monitor). Getting back to the features of the camera, it has an infrared mode and contains its own infrared LED illuminators that have a range of about 60 feet in total dark conditions. On top of that, the camera has extremely good low light sensitivity so it does a very good job of creating clear, high resolution monochromatic infrared videos as well. The camera comes with it's own little mini processor in the form of an On Screen Display menu that will allow you to set and/or adjust many features. The camera includes a digital wide dynamic range function show shadows from back lighting and other problem lighting issues can be overcome with a little adjustment. It also has digital noise reduction (comes in handy for low light settings to help eliminate the digital "noise"), back light compensation, Sense Up, and high light or head light compensation that can help to mask or block out the bright lights, especially for use with video taping automobiles. Finally the OSD can be controlled remotely from the DVR or over the Internet via your DVR by connecting a pair of wires to the RS485 connector on the camera and your recorder. Just when you figure you've seen it all, the camera also is dual voltage and has a full 2 year warranty. I'll be recommending this to many others.
700 TVL Ultra High Resolution Day/Night Indoor Dome IR Security Camera

We have an 8 channel Security Camera King Ultimate system that we use in our home. When I first installed the system a year ago, I actually used 6 channels. We have had no problems with the DVR, the cameras, or any other component of the system. In fact, that's why I returned to Security Camera King to purchase this camera. This maybe be seen as overkill from the security camera professionals’ point of view (I really don't know) but for my wife and I, nothing is too good for our new daughter. We recently had our first child and I purchased this camera to use as the “baby cam” for her room. The 700TVL resolution produces a remarkable video picture and gives us access to monitoring her room through our bedroom LCD TV, main big screen LCD, and even our computer and smart phones. At night time, the infrared mode kicks in automatically and the infrared LEDs illuminate her and her room perfectly. The resolution even jumps up a bit to 730TVL in black and white. The varifocal lens gives me the freedom to mount the camera in a variety of places in the room and be able to adjust the camera for it’s best shot (right now of course, the camera is zoomed in on her crib but in several months I will be able to expand that to the entire room). The camera has an On Screen Display (OSD) menu although I must admit, I don’t use it as much as I thought I would because there is very little adjusting I need to do to the camera now that it is mounted and set up. Nonetheless, I ran a pair of wires and connected it to the RS485 input on my DVR for control from the DVR. The camera works great, delivers a high quality picture, and I would recommend it for use by others.

This is what I would call a good "upscale" dome camera. If the highest resolution in analog cameras is what is most important to you, than this camera has that covered. It has a 700 TVL color resolution and a 730 TVL resolution in black and white. It also has a 2.8 - 12mm varifocal lens so you can adjust your shot, especially if your looking for a field of view tighter than a wide angle. Even though this camera has infrared LEDs with about a 60 foot range and an operating infrared mode, the camera is still pretty sensitive to visible light with a minimum light rating of 0.001 LUX which is pretty good. If there's anything at all that I don't care for on this camera it is the on board On Screen Display (OSD) controller. For me, that tiny button is a pain to mess with especially if you are reaching up above your head on a stepladder. Luckily however, the camera comes with an RS485 hookup that allows you to control the OSD remotely from the DVR side. It was a little dicey at first to get it aimed properly, but I eventually got the hang of it. The camera is versatile in that it is dual voltage show you can use it on 12 VDC or 24 VAC systems. I don't think you would be disappointed by it if you purchased it.

You pay a greater price for this camera because the video is truly higher quality. That's augmented by the 2.8 - 12 mm varifocal lens. It has an OSD that offers a lot of features that can be adjusted and readjusted. I like this camera because it also has an RS485 connection to operate the OSD from the DVR and it comes with a 2 year warranty not to mention a good quality video recording production.

Security Camera King has a nice selection of indoor cameras both infrared illuminated types and true day/night models but for indoor dome use, I have to say that the ID-EL700IR50L2812 is my favorite dome (with the exception of the length of the part number). This camera has a lot of features, a lot of options, and then it goes just a little bit more even, over that. For example, as the title says the camera has a 7000 TVL ultra high resolution (color) day but believe it or not it has an even slightly higher resolution of 730 TVL in black and white under infrared conditions! The infrared mode, by the way, is automatic. When the infrared CDS cell grouped in among the infrared LED illuminators senses the available light as being to low for clear, normal operation, it automatically sends a signal to the camera the triggers on the infrared mode and the IR LEDs. Even though the LEDs are incased within the dome glass (they surround the camera lens) they still project through it well enough to provide about a 60 foot range for infrared mode video recording. It's nice to have a little extra range then the average standard dome range of 50 feet so that it can supplement the 2.8 to 12mm varifocal lens when it is at its farthest length. Even though the camera is designed as an infrared camera, it still has an incredible low light sensitivity of 0.001 LUX without the infrared LEDs on. The camera has a built in On Screen Display (OSD) that is used to set up the camera and adjust any features accordingly. The OSD is operated by a tiny joystick type button, built inside the domes camera case. However, once again the camera contributes a "little extra" by providing an 2 wire RS485 connection that can be connected to your DVR on the other end to remotely control the OSD from the location of the DVR (or even remotely). The OSD offers features like digital wide dynamic range, back light compensation, Sense Up, and digital noise reduction, all of which can be used to enhance your camera's recorded video picture. The camera can operate off of 12 VDC systems but goes the "little extra" once again and is also useable from a 24 VAC power supply. To top all of that off, it also comes with a full two year warranty. Like I said in the beginning, it's my favorite indoor dome!

This beautiful camera was easy to install, provides one of the best, clear pictures and gave me no problems installing. I have actually purchased 4 of these and all of them gave me exactly what I needed to protect my client. Not to mention the support staff here are wonderful.

This is a good varifocal dome camera with infrared mode and it offers a lot of different features. However, even though the camera produces an excellent quality video picture, I couldn't quite give it five stars because I thought the price was just a tad bit high. In fairness to the camera it comes with an OSD that provides adjustment opportunities for electronic features like back light compensation, digital noise reduction, digital wide dynamic range, sense-up, and even head light compensation. You better make sure you run an extra pair of wires for the RS485 connection though because otherwise the only way to access the OSD is to dismantle the camera to operate the awkward menu button that is built into the camera board. The good thing is that the camera comes with a full 2 year warranty and is dual voltage.

I like this camera. It is actually a day/night infrared camera and not a true day/night camera but the resolution is incredible, 700TVL color and 730 TVL black and white. Here's what I think:
Good
1) High resolutions
2) Good 60 foot infrared mode range with built in infrared LEDs
3) Good varifocal lens (2.8 to 12 mm) -- nice for a dome camera
4) OSD control of digital noise reduction, Back light compensation, digital wide dynamic range, Sense Up and others.
5) Dual Voltage
6) RS485 control ready
7) 2 year warranty
Not So Good
1) Camera housing can be easily separated from camera (not really vandal proof)
2) Lens adjustment for the varifocal lens is a little tedious
3) The IR LEDs intensity can be varied but not by the OSD, you have to dismantle the camera to get to the control.
Summary
Good over all camera. The price isn't bad for most commercial applications. The mounting and installation of the wires is quick and easy. I would recommend this camera to others.

The Security Camera King 700 TVL ultra high resolution day/night indoor dome IR security camera produces a fine high resolution video picture in both daylight (color) mode and night time (black and white) mode. The 60 foot infrared range is pretty sufficient for most indoor uses. I think one of the biggest benefits of this camera in addition to the high resolution is the 2.8 to 12 mm varifocal lens. A lot of indoor shots require a variety of different views from wide to narrow and the varifocal lens accommodates this as well as makes mounting easier. The camera has an on screen display that comes with a bunch of features to make adjustments to suit the conditions like wide dynamic range, digital noise reduction, and backlight compensation. Overall it's a very good camera.
