700TVL Weatherproof Varifocal Bullet Security Camera
Review by Gardner, Pete (Illinois USA) on Mar 19, 2014
This is an upper level (my reference is to price) 700TVL bullet cameras. The video quality is indisputably good with vibrant true colors and clear, crisp video. The camera is relatively easy to mount and it is weatherproof so you can use it just about anywhere. The camera has a conventional design that included a sun guard. The camera also has an On Screen Display menu system that offers the user the ability to make changes to camera configurations and activate or change settings for additional useful electronic features such as wide dynamic range, back light compensation, and digital noise reduction for example. As I have always come to expect from Security Camera King (I have been an Internet customer for over 5 years now) their equipment is very high quality. However, I must say that I will hold back a five star rating and only go with four stars for this particular camera because I'm not sure that you couldn't obtain the same type of camera with the same features for a lower price. In other words, I think this one may be a bit pricey. On the positive side there are many beneficial features of this camera that I haven't mentioned yet. The mount allows for rotation and movement of the camera in almost any position so once it is secured you can aim it just about and direction you please. It does get an extended (I call it extended because it seems like the average camera has a range of about 50 feet) infrared range of 100 feet or more. The Sony Ex-View HAD II CCD 960H sensor Effio E digital signal processor is a proven high quality combination and this camera is particularly suitable for 960H (Security Camera King's "Federal Series" DVRs). The varifocal lens has a focal length range of 2.8 to 12 mm an is useful for some zooming and definite shot framing. The varifocal is manual.

I bought this camera to replace an older bullet camera that got damaged in a storm by a falling tree limb. Wow! What a difference! This camera really delivers a good video capture. If these were around when I originally installed my system several years ago, all my outdoor cameras would be of this type and I'm not so sure I'm going to replace them anyway. I suppose this enhanced quality has to do with the Sony Ex-View HAD II CCD which is also a 960 sensor along with the Effio-E digital signal processor. Now I'm curious to see how this looks using a Security Camera King Federal series DVR. The camera has a standard type manual adjusting varifocal lens with a focal length of 2.8 to 12mm and is good for all overview shots. I get the full 100 foot infrared range listed in the specs and it is a clear infrared video as well. The OSD is helpful in adjusting the camera for my needs. I'll probably return for another one.

I purchased this camera for my new system that uses the Security Camera King Federal series DVR--what a picture! With this camera's Sony Ex-View HAD II CCD 960H sensor and the optimizing 960H resolution format video. I really don't see a need for me for the more expensive megapixel cameras. I get a solid 100 foot infrared range without any problem and the varifocal lens works great as well as the OSD. This is a high-end analog type large resolution video security camera and I'll definitely use this again if I have the need.

Ordered camera at the web site and receive the package at my door in three days. The camera was packed safe and securely, had all parts, and was in perfect condition. If you compare the purchase of this camera to a comparable box camera you can't beat it. It already has the varifocal 2.8 to 12mm lens and it is weatherproof so no enclosure is needed. The picture is very high quality and I do believe this Sony Ex-View HAD II CCD 960H Sensor/Effio-E digital signal processor does make a better quality video along with Sony's automatic tone reproduction (ATR). This one has an OSD and lots of features that go with it.

Good camera. Installs easily and produces quality video. Varifocal lens makes for easy framing of shots and the 100 foot infrared range in total darkness is also a big plus. The On Screen Display is also very helpful for configuring camera settings to meet specific conditions.

Nice bullet camera that delivers a very clear and detailed video. The colors in the video are very accurate and the camera does a good job with handling some challenging lighting situations automatically. We use this with our Security Camera King Federal Series 960H resolution DVR and the Sony EXView HAD II CCD (960H) is a perfect match. The camera also has a varifocal lens (2.8 - 12mm) so you can do a little zooming as well. The camera also has an On Screen Display (OSD) menu that allows you to make a few adjustments including Sony's Automatic Tone Reproduction (basically the same thing as digital wide dynamic range), backlight compensation, and shutter speed. We are very satisfied with it and also like the 100 foot infrared range we get from it.

When you purchase this camera you are paying for quality results and I must admit it really does deliver! The 2.8 to 12 mm Varifocal lens allows for moderate adjustments to the filed of view especially for places like doorways and such. However, I think one of the biggest benefits of this camera is the Sony ExView HAD II CCD (960H) with the Effio digital signal processor. The camera delivers a good, high resolution, color accurate video image and I have no complaints with the infrared mode as well. The infrared LED illuminators are strong enough to give you about a 100 foot range in total darkness. The camera also has an On Screen Display menu that provides the means for making adjustments to electronic features that enhance the quality of the video even more using features like back light compensation, automatic tone reproduction (Sony’s wide dynamic range feature) and other functions.

This is an excellent quality infrared bullet camera with a decent infrared range. It has the new Sony EXView HAD II CCD (960H) with the Effio digital signal processor for the best possible analog resolution video capture. My video recordings are very crisp, clear, and color correct. The color matching is really quite amazing. The camera has a 100 foot infrared range in total darkness and I get every bit of that plus a little more. The 2.8 to 12mm varifocal zoom lens allows you to adjust the shot the way you want it which is especially nice if you dislike those fisheye type wide angle lenses. The camera also has an OSD that can be used to control electronic features like wide dynamic range (Sony calls it Automatic Tone Reproduction or ATR), back light compensation, and other adjustments.

I really like this camera. I noticed some of the reviews indicated that the purchasers weren't that impressed with it, but if you compare this camera side by side to one with a different chipset, I think you'll see the difference right away. Sometimes I think that being used to high definition TVs and displays and especially IP megapixel security cameras can make us un aware of the differences the different chipsets make in the analog cameras. Personally, I think this camera with the Sony ExView HAD II CCD (960H) and the Effio digital signal processor make this camera worth the price. The camera's varifocal lens ranges from 2.8 to 12mm which allows you to go from wide angle to a much tighter shot with some zoom besides. Also, another benefit is the infrared LED illuminators range. Since this camera does have a varifocal lens it could be easy to try to shoot beyond the range of an average infrared illumination system but with these whopping 84 LEDs and a 100 foot distance, you've got good compatibility between the two. Of course the camera comes with an OSD that is loaded with a lot features that enhance the picture even more. All I can say is that I am very happy with mine.

I purchased one of these cameras for our business a few months ago thinking that it would be the super-duper bullet camera. It turns out it's not a bad camera, but I'm not sure there is much about it that really justifies the high price either. (I say that compared to the fact that you can purchase an infrared bullet camera with a 700 TVL for less than $70.00.) This camera definitely has three things going for it that are on the positive side. First, the new Sony EXview HAD II 960H CCD with the Effio digital signal processor does produce some of the finest images among CCTV cameras, I must give it that. And, the camera also has a 2.8 - 12mm varifocal lens (thankfully, for the price). Finally, depending on your conditions, you can tweak any where from about 75 feet to 120 feet total darkness infrared range out of this thing. But 84 IR LEDs planted around the lens seems like a bit of overkill to me. When you look at the camera head on it looks more like a spotlight staring at you then a camera. It does have Sony's "Automatic Tone Reproduction" which I guess is their name for wide dynamic range and a host of other features on its OSD. Sorry though, I just wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be with this one.
