8 Channel 1080p HD-CVI Mini DVR
Review by Sanfilippo, Tony (New Jersey USA) on Sep 01, 2014
Good recorder. Does what it says, produces high quality video without any glitches. It was easy to install. The 1080p resolution recording is at a slower-than-real-time rate at 15 frames per second, but it is still pretty darn fluid. If you're that concerned about motion, you can "drop" the resolution down to HD 720p and record at 30 frames per second on all channels simultaneously. I'd recommend it.

I can't describe this any other way than to say it is unbelievable! I decided to play "guinea pig" and be one of the first (I think) to try Security Camera King's 8 Channel 1080p HD-CVI Mini DVR. After all the CVI system can still transmit farther than the SDI systems, I can still use my existing coaxial cable, and the 2 megapixel or 1080p resolution is just as good as a network IP megapixel system or an SDI system and the price is somewhat cheaper!

I ordered this DVR from Security Camera King as well as eight 2 megapixel cameras from Security Camera King using this on-line store. Everything arrived at the same time, packed properly with no shipping damage at all. Replacing the old cameras was easy. I just took down the old cameras and mounted the new ones in their place. I was tempted to even use the old power supply, but I figured that as long as I was going new with everything electronic, I might as well follow through with that.

The DVR has an excellent On Screen Display menu system. The more you start to explore the pages, the more features you seem to find that you didn't know you had! This GUI (Graphical User Interface) is simple enough that you really need very little experience with computers to operate it. The owner's manual, like most is not the best, but I do think it is better than most.

Eight cameras recording 2 megapixels at 30 frames per second is pumping out a lot of data, however, this recorder handles it with ease. Since their is so much data, and the case is a mini, you may think that would be a problem for video storage. However, if both drive spaces are used with 4 TB drives you can get over 2 weeks continuous (24/7) recording. Better yet, if you use motion detection recording you can increase that time considerably. And no matter what method you choose to record, the recorded videos are sharp, colorful, and very detailed in resolution.

One last item I should mention for this review and that is the Technical Support department at Security Camera King. I was very impressed with the quality of help they gave me. They were happy to answer any questions I had and were more than willing to solve any problems for me. Companies like this are hard to find these days!
