8 Channel HD Series 1080p HD-SDI Mini Security DVR
Review by Leo Holtzapfel on Apr 08, 2014
I like this DVR a lot. Although Security Camera King refers to it as their "Mini" it really does a lot. I guess more than anything else, if it is lacking it is lacking in space for extra internal hard drives but it really has a full complement of just about everything else. Of course the best and biggest stand out feature of them all for this DVR is the fact that it records 8 2 megapixel (1080p) resolution cameras at once, all at 30 frames per second. The unit doesn't make much noise (you can hear the internal hard drives from time to time) but it is relatively quiet and doesn't get real hot either. So that makes it a good for "tucking" it in places that a full size unit might be too big for. I don't know how they do it, and I really don't care, but all I know is that it can do a lot of things besides just make movies. I actually purchased this unit and 8 cameras to upgrade a real old system I have. At first I thought I was nuts when you consider the total price for everything, but now I defy anyone to say my system isn't clear, detailed, and of utmost quality. I hope there is no reason in the world for my videos to ever pop up on the local news show, but I can tell this much. With this new system, there is no way they will look like those pixilated, blurred black and white videos that you so often see still today. As a matter of fact, when my cameras are in infrared mode, their recordings in black and white are still extremely fine and clear. So the bottom dollar is that I don't think you will have any problems with this DVR and you'll be satisfied if you purchase it. Between the quality and performance of the equipment and the service from the Security Camera King technical support department I can't see how I can rate this anything other than five stars.

8 Channel HD Series 1080p HD-SDI Mini Security DVR
Review by Patrick Griffin, SureSafe Security LLC on Feb 26, 2014
Compared to the extra $350 for the price of the full size unit, unless you need greater internal storage or some other feature that the full size unit has that this "Mini" doesn't, I highly recommend this DVR. In regard to video quality, compared to TVL type systems, there is no comparison. They can't even compete. As far as comparing this Security Camera King HD-SDI DVR to an IP network megapixel system NVR, the video quality is comparable. An HD-SDI system can use regular coaxial cable (RG59 previously installed for an older system for example) so it can be much easier to install. However, a IP network system with the proper Internet and networking systems can allow you to connect cameras or even other systems from as far away as around the world.

As for absolute price comparisons, the least expensive option is a TVL based system. HD-SDI and Network systems seem somewhat similar.

As for my personal experience with this particular unit, as a full time professional CCTV installer, I actually get a lot of enjoyment out of the shock I see on people's faces/body language he first time they see this DVR and HD-SDI system work after using a TVL based system for so long. It's priceless. I've been dealing with Security Camera King for many years now, and seldom have I ever encountered any issues. I may have received a damaged product from shipping but after returning it right away Security Camera King has immediately either repaired it or replaced it. Their support team is exceptional.

This DVR installs easily, offers many options, and produces a very high quality color or black and white security video recording. Depending on the camera type used and mounting location, you'll be able to see anything from facial expressions to details as small as people's uniform nametags being clearly legible. The unit doesn't produce much heat so it can be placed just about anywhere. This unit uses the Security Camera King OSD (On Screen Display) interface for configuration so if you are familiar with other SCK recorders you'll feel right at home using this one. If this is brand new o you, don't worry, it is not that difficult to control. I have started educating my customers about the benefits of HD-SDI systems and the ease to upgrading to them from older systems. I'm getting more requests for these units all the time. Based on my client's responses, I have to rate this DVR at five stars.

8 Channel HD Series 1080p HD-SDI Mini Security DVR
Review by Hussein, Ahmed (California USA) on Jan 20, 2014
So I made my order with Security Camera King website on Monday and received the 8 Channel HD Series 1080p HD-SDI Mini Security DVR on Friday. I ordered many, many other items. They arrived all packed properly and safe and arrived in perfect condition. This DVR is very, very good. The high resolution video is extremely clear and sharp and shows many detail. For a mini, this DVR still has plenty of room for up to 4 internal hard disk drives (I use all of them) and provides plenty of video storage. I used this DVR to replace a very old DVR and camera system (the cameras were 320TVL and the DVR recorded to a looping tape) and I could not believe the difference. This new system is much more expensive then the old system but at least I didn't have to change the wire cables. Also, I installed the system myself so I saved much money there. Very good DVR.

Excellent resolution video. In fact the color, resolution, frame rate, etc. is very impressive. This was an upgrade for me. I replaced about a 10 year old system with this HD-SDI DVR and I must say that re-running the cable/wire would have been a major pain in the neck. Compared to the old system, the price is a little high for the cameras and the DVR (but then again, so was my old system when it first camer out), but quite honestly, I can't see the need for another upgrade in my life time. THere really isn't a whole lot for to improve upon with this DVR. Even though the DVR is a "mini" in size it is still pretty much full service. I would suggest skipping the internal DVD burner unless you really have a need for it and getting the maximum number of internal hard disk drives, you'll probablly need them with all the data 8 1080p resolution cameras can create. Be careful, these systems are addictive. Once you see a video with this kind of quality you'll never want to mess with an old 420TVL camera and CIF recording resolution again!

We decided it was time for an upgrade to our video security system at our store but our budget was limited. What we wanted and what we could afford were two entirely different issues. We really liked the clarity and definition of the IP network megapixel cameras but those systems and their prices were just a bit of "overkill" for us. Then we discovered the new HD-SDI systems. Although the cameras may not be much cheaper in price than a network camera, collectively for us, this system was a tremendous savings. First of all our current surveillance system was very old and outdated so we replaced all the cameras with HD-SDI high definition cameras. Secondly, the HD-SDI system can use existing RG59 coaxial cable instead of making all new runs of Cat5 Ethernet cable. And finally, to top it all off, we purchased the Security Camera King HD Series 1080p HD-SDI Mini Security DVR which saved us $350.00 over the full size model. We still get real time high definition recording and this mini can even record audio too. For us, the differences between the full size HD-SDI DVR and the Mini are not significant so we are able enjoy the cost savings. The DVR functions by using the standard Security Camera King On Screen Display menu and if you are familiar with other Security Camera King recorders running this one will be a piece of cake. If this is your first Security Camera King DVR don't worry, the OSD is still intuitive enough and easy to use so you don't have to be an expert to operate it. The machine has absolutely no problem handling the workload with all 8 channels functioning at once. We are very happy with our unit and our system as a whole and must add that Security Camera King also has a great technical support staff that is more than willing to help you with any issues you may encounter. Definitely a five star rated product!
