The VSI product line from American Video Equipment allows the transaction data from cash registers or ATM machines to be overlayed onto any standard video source. Increasingly, the retail and banking industry have been controlling theft and fraud using these devices. Once a transaction is started, data is generated and sent to the VSI+ from either the cash register or the ATM. The VSI+ overlays this data on top of the normal camera picture and also sends a signal that activates the time-lapse VCR recorder. This provides two benefits. First, the VSI+ links the data with the picture. On the monitor screen you will see not only the cashier and the product being sold, but also the price charged by the clerk for that product. This allows visual comparison of the physical items being rung into the register and the actual register data of the transaction overlaid on the video picture. With all these elements recorded on tape, a store owner can review the scene and, with one view, verify the legitimacy of the check out. But perhaps the most significant benefit of the VSI+ is its ability to trigger VCR recording so that only relevant event information is captured on video. For instance, a grocery store owner, concerned about losses, may not want to watch every transaction but only those with a sales amount over $100. With the powerful programming capabilities of the VSI+ Exception Report, it is possible to program the VSI+ to alarm(or trigger recording) for what the store owner considers exceptional events, such as any transaction over $100. The owner can program the VSI+ to alarm when an Exception falls either within or outside of a certain range. The parameters of a range can be Greater Than, Less Than, Equal to, Within the range of two numbers, or Outside of that range, creating VCR recording that is triggered by only certain high risk exceptional, or questionable events, known as Exception Reporting.

Ave Vsi-pro Video Text Inserter
Review by Mark Iverson on Jan 02, 2013
I purchased this unit for my store about a year ago. As of this writing I see that Security Camera King is out of stock on this item. However, I just wanted to say that there is nothing that can help you keep track of transactions, including monitoring customers and employees alike, than this text inserter used in conjunction with a good close up camera at your checkout or register.
As a jewelry store owner, one bad mistake at the cash register can significantly alter my profit margins for one to several months. The Ave Vsi-pro Video Text Inserter is an excellent way for me to monitor our more expensive purchases while maintaining a high degree of security at the same time. I have set the text inserter to turn print for transactions that total over a specific amount. This saves lots of storage space and more importantly it makes it really easy for review only the more valuable transactions. Highly recommended if you need more security control at the cash register.
I love this Point of Sale text inserter! We have this set up perfectly with our security system camera and everything that is rung up is also documented on video. I can actually see what is purchased all day long by watching the video tape. We have a trigger sent up on the Vsi-pro such that it only records during checkout, really conserving hard disk storage.
I own a pet shop where we sell small animals (like gerbils, rabbits, birds, fish). We offer unconditional limited time guarantees on these items as I feel we treat them with the best of care and every animal that leaves this pet shop is in excellent health. Recently we have had a high rate of refund requests which doesn't make sense. It seems as if a lot of these are from, shall we say, "opportunists." Now with our POS machine we not only get good video image to go along with the transaction, but we also have something that documents the fact that the pets were in good health when they left my store.
This POS text inserter is really great. It allows me to document every purchase and return in the store. We have programmed the POS device to turn on the camera recording only when someone is purchasing (the cash register is being used). This has really conserved hard drive space on our DVR for longer recording loops before rerecording.
The AVI Vsi-pro works great! It helps us to conserve digital recording times at the cash register stretching our DVR's hard disk drive storage capacity even further. Our area has had a lot of counterfeit money circulated lately and we have a business that involves constant money changing all day long. We have our system set up for Exception Reporting for anything over $49.99, as the counterfeit bills circulated have been $50.00 bills. I would recommend this for just about any business.
I own a convenience store and we accept credit cards. A credit card issuer called and asked about an unusual amount of purchases made from our store that were just minutes apart, and usually to the same card. After installing the Ave Vsi-pro on our NCR register and video system, we found out that one of our clerks had been fraudulently charging merchandise purchases that were never made. If it wasn't for this, our store would have been in dire straits!
