Complete 16 Channel DVR Ultimate Security Camera Package
Review by Marvin Shephard on Sep 26, 2014
After you get this system and work with it a bit you'll see why Security Camera King calls it their "Ultimate" system. The short of my review, five stars, great product. Now the details.

I ordered this system on-line, right here without any human interaction. The ordering process was easy and I paid for my order with a credit card. I expected they typical "1 to 2 week shipping" so I was shocked when I got it in three days.

I can't exactly say installation was "easy." It wasn't necessarily complicated, but it was tedious. Do yourself a favor and purchase one of those cheap portable service monitors so you can aim the cameras without running back and forth. Also, assuming you've planned out your camera placement, etc. before you ordered, you may want to visit your local home improvement store/hardware store and purchase any cable fasteners you think you might need.

The DVR is quality, period. You can't compare it to some tinker-toy system you can pick up at Sam's, Costco, or Walmart. It's obviously made over seas but it is still quality (you can tell because of the way the manual is written that it wasn't made in the US). And while I'm on the subject, the only thing that I didn't care much for in this package was the operator's manual. It sucks. But there are plenty of Security Camera King on-line youtube video tutorials and help articles that can answer most of your questions. I'll over look the manual translation because their technical support staff is more than willing to assist you with anything you come up with, and they offer it for the life of the product. (No charge not at $3.95 an hour or whatever).

The video recordings are in D1 resolution and the DVR can record all 16 cameras at once, each one at a frame rate of 30 frames per second. The videos are very clear, have a good amount of detail for a "non-megapixel" camera, and the infrared mode works well too. If there is a "King" of their systems and package deals, I think this one is a good competitor.

There's not a whole lot I can say about this except the specifications and equipment speak for themselves. The proof is in the pudding, This is a nice comprehensive DVR with some pretty good basic 800TVL cameras (you may want to upgrade them to cameras with OSDs or varifocal lenses). As usual, Security Camera King's technical support is prime.

I must admit that as a do it yourself guy, this 16 channel system was not difficult to install. Furthermore, Security Camera King helps take the guess work out of making sure you've ordered everything by including it in this package system deal. After measuring everything up and determining my cable lengths I was lucky enough to be able to use all 16 plug and play cables instead of custom cutting my own from bulk cable and applying the connectors so this made things a lot quicker and easier too. The 800TVL cameras capture a great video picture. They have fixed lenses and no OSD but I am amazed at how well they do work. Of course the heart of this package system is the Ultimate full size DVR. This recorder is high quality all the way. The D1 videos it records are sharp, clear, and color correct. Since there are so many features, it would take several pages to mention them all but a few of the ones I particularly like include: 1. Audio and Alarm channels. With all these inputs, and with the way you can integrate the DVR and cameras with the alarms, there really is no need for a separate alarm system. 2. The DVR has convenient search options that make finding the footage you want easy to obtain quickly. and 3. The Remote Access function. All this really requires is that you connect the DVR to a broadband Internet source using the enclosed CAT5 Ethernet cable and you can monitor and control the system on a variety of devices including a PC, Tablet, or Smartphone. And the nice thing about that is Security Camera King provides the software and apps available to download and use for free!

This is the "goto" of all "goto's". I really like this package system and the price is relatively conservative considering all of the features that are included. I am a CCTV contract installer and I have installed many systems from Security Camera King (Tech Pro), but I think this one takes the cake for value versus price over any other system they offer. Of course you can get a higher definition picture using megapixel cameras but you'll pay a higher price as well. What I'm saying is that this system is probably the best quality to value system they offer.

The newer 800TVL cameras are a nice addition to the package, adding yet another 100 lines to the "older" 700 TVL cameras. More lines means a higher resolution and an even better quality picture. Although the cameras are basic cameras that have fixed lenses and no On Screen Display, they do a good job with automatic adjustments and they do include infrared LED illuminators that will cover about 50 feet.

The DVR is the key to this system though. It is loaded both physically and electronically with very useful features. To begin with the case size is large enough to hold a total of 8 internal hard disk drives. We opted for four internal hard dick drives and the DVD burner. The DVD burner is a steal at $37.95 and Security Camera King will install it (as well as the hard drives) for you free of charge. There are multiple output/input connections on the back of the unit for connecting up to 3 different main monitors, cameras, audio, and alarms. The DVR uses the Linux operating system but the real "brain" of the system i s the carefully designed On Screen Display. You can tell that the OSD was designed by someone who has installed security camera systems and is familiar with them. I really think this could be the star package of the Internet for CCTV systems.

I really like this package; I have made more than one purchase in the past. Now Security Camera King includes the 700TVL camera versus the 600TVL camera which used to be included in the package that makes it even better. The cameras are basic 700TVL camera but the deliver an excellent video image. You may want to consider upgrading to other types if necessary to fit your needs such as varifocal or cameras with OSDs and this DVR can easily handle PTZs as well. This 16 channel Ultimate Series DVR has got to be the standard in the commercial application genre at least. I'm certainly not ruling out that it can't be used for other applications like residential use; of course it can. But when it comes to general, average size jobs for me, this DVR unit has got to set the standard for the industry. It's not one of those ridiculous computer based units, it records excellent D1 resolution video at 30 frames per second on all 16 channels at once, and it does it without overheating, bogging down, or crashing.

You don't have to be a professional CCTV installer to set this DVR up either. Anyone can do it, and if you have any problems, I've found Security Camera King's technical support department to be probably one of the best in the business. All of the little extras are included with the DVR such as SATA cables a USB mouse an infrared remote control, mounting brackets, etc. Security Camera King goes through great lengths to provide you with instructional materials ranging from owners' manuals to video instructions and written instructions to help you install and set up the DVR. The On Screen Display (OSD) menu system works great and is relatively easy to use. It is intuitive enough that if you can figure out where to make the adjustments to configurations and choices for operation. If not, it is still easy enough to use that if you have the time and the energy you can simply cruise from page to page to familiarize yourself with the menus.

The DVR has plenty of features and options. There is plenty of room for internal hard drive disk storage, external hard drive disk storage, internal and external DVD burners, and other devices. For data security, the DVR offers two features that stick out for me. One is that the hard drives can be configured in the RAID configuration in case one fails (I've never had a call back for a failed hard drive for this unit though), and the other is that the entire hard set of hard drives can be backed up to an entirely different location over a network or the Internet using File Transfer Protocol (FTP).

I just don't think you can get any better than this. Of course I'm partial, because as an independent CCTV installer my company orders much of their equipment from Security Camera King but I would argue that that may not be partiality as much as a sound, logical choice. I don't think you'll find any disappointments with this package system.

This is an excellent 16 channel package deal that Security Camera King has put together. It includes just about everything you need besides the tools, cable attachments, and monitors. I can see why they avoid including those items in their package because they can vary so much from customer to customer. We ordered this system for our business and I was asked to install and maintain it. As far as the physical aspect is concerned the system was extremely easy to install with one exception. Since Security Camera King tries to make it easy for non-professional CCTV installers (do it yourselfers) they should include a paragraph with these large systems suggesting the purchaser purchase a service monitor. Phew! Running back and forth from camera to the DVR can be a real pain to adjust or set up the cameras!

The DVR is a complete full—service piece of equipment. In addition to the video enhancing features and other security video related features (motion detection recording, PTZ control, etc.) it also includes support for multiple monitors, audio inputs and outputs, and alarm inputs and outputs, and multiple simultaneous remote access users via just about any Internet capable device. I particularly like some of the recording and play back features like the “last 5 minutes” feature and search and index. It makes retrieval much quicker and easier. As I said above I had no problems with installation, but I did have a glitch or two with the set-up and configuration. One call to Security Camera King’s technical support department and all was solved.

I did an install for a customer about a month ago that ordered one of these systems and used just about every feature or option on the DVR that was available. They also upgraded all their cameras to 700RVLs. I guess they figured they wanted their moneys worth. I installed all 16 cameras, just about all the alarm inputs available, microphones, and even two-way audio. Before I was finished, the decided they wanted to use all three main display video outputs. On top of that they had several users for the remote access feature. It's the first time I have installed a Security Camera King product, but you can be sure that I will be purchasing and installing these Techvision DVRs in the future! I'm telling you there were so many wires and cables coming out of this DVR I though it would have a meltdown when I finished. I bundled them and labeled them for the customer as neatly as I could. The DVR handles the work load like its a piece of cake. Not only does it easily handle the recording of the camera, playing of the videos, but it also handles the multi-user remote access function all at the same time without any slow downs, skipped frames, crashes or other problems. Hats off to Security Camera King, you have a very good product here.

Good package for my home. I think a lot of people consider 16 channel systems are only for businesses and large office applications but this system works very well for my home and farm. However, I must say that to install this package system the way I needed it done, I did go through quite a bit of Siamese cable. First I protected my home inside and out, then I ran cables to my barn and tool garage. I upgraded the cameras, ordered the internal DVD burner and bought some extra internal hard disk drives and I think I have everything I need. I used the alarm connections to set triggers at each first floor door and window in the house. I'm satisfied with the way it works and the ease for installing so I'll give it four stars. If I'm back and a year and it still works like it does now, I'll bump it up to five.

I work in the securities and exchange field and we recently purchased the Complete 16 Channel DVR Ultimate Security Camera Package from Security Camera King for two purposes. One is to provide surveillance and security for inside the office building and the other is to use as a monitor for providing security on the exterior of our offices. We upgraded the cameras and use some different models for different reasons and we also purchased a large hard drive along with a DVD burner. We received the order intact, packaged well, and within 3 business days after placing our order. We began installation of the cameras but we had to take a temporary halt, as we realized we didn't do a very good job of considering our requirements and didn't order enough wire to cover the runs throughout our building. We contacted Security Camera King and made sure we placed our additional order for enough wire to complete the job and they had it shipped to us within the week! We purchased several different cameras; there is no point in me listing them all but I will say that they all mounted easily, set up easily and work fine. I should also say that we intend to purchase another 16 or 32 camera system when we are ready to expand our system so as a result the company also purchased a Security Camera King CCTV Tester With 12V Power Output and MultiMeter (Security Camera King's product number TOOL-TP250) and that made camera mounting and installation especially easy for so many cameras. Using the DVRs OSD and fine tuning a couple of our cameras we have even been able to provide 1005 coverage to our network server room to alert us to activity via an alarm light. The D1 recording display at 30 frames per second is nice. Since I am not real familiar with security camera surveillance systems I played around with the DVR settings when I first set it up and changed the display to CIF. I definitely like the D1 resolution better and I am glad now that we went with that. We also like the Internet access capability. That allows us to be able to control the DVR from our offices using our personal computers or monitor any of the cameras when we are walking out in the plant. In addition, we have email notifications set up on a couple of our cameras set up with motion detection. When they sense a specific movement, they send us an email alert. As for the human resources side of the system, that is, security and surveillance of our employees or visitors, the system works great! We have a PTZ camera in our parking lot that helps to protect our employees and their vehicles as well as monitor our entrance and receiving area. The DVR controls the PTZ (when we don't have it on automatic) just by using the mouse which is nice. I really can't find anything at fault with this system, it is of high quality and works well. The only thing I didn't like is that if you really want to use some specific features and you are not a regular CCTV person it does take a while to get used to the DVR's OSD menus and how to work them. On the other hand, I did contact Security Camera King's support department and they were excellent at walking me through the steps and menu pages necessary to get the job done. They also gave me some tips and tricks and helped me to get more familiar with the system.

We are a building supply company. Although we do get our share of contractors' orders, we also have quite a few regular retail customers as well. We've been in operation for about 6 months now and I am surprised at how well our business has been operating. I thought it would be best to install a video security system because of all the traffic that we get here daily. I wanted a 16 channel D1 fulltime 30 frame per second rate system, especially in case I need to rely on it for legal evidence. In our area, we can use the system to protect us from robberies, shoplifting, and even false "slip and fall" liability cases. I also didn't want to spend a lot of time messing with video backups and wanted plenty of storage space as well as several spot monitors for different areas of our store. I also needed a PTZ camera to cover our lumber yard.

When I started designing my system to determine what I would like to have I put a lot of things on a "wish list" because I was reasonably certain I wouldn't be able to obtain all the features in just one DVR (alarms, sound, etc.) Boy was I wrong! I was shocked when I discovered your system and realized it had everything I needed and even more! As you know I maxed out my internal hard drive space, opted for the internal DVD burner, and upgraded all my cameras. The wire wasn't an issue since I have my own so I ordered the standard plug and play cords and prepared the few longer runs I needed with my own wire and connectors.

The entire system works great! I'm using all three video monitors. I have the HDMI video in my office, the VGA video monitor at the checkout manager's stand, and the BNC monitor way back in the warehouse for the employees outback. These monitors are almost better than a PA system for the employees because if they need someone specific, they can almost always find them on the monitors and see if they are busy doing something else. I won't go into much more detail as I have already written enough but I think I have used just about every feature on the DVR! The cameras and DVR, in act the whole system works great, is easy to use and we have had no problems whatsoever. I have recommended you to several business associates and I intend to purchase any of my video security equipment from you in the future--I may even consider bing a dealer.
