Complete 8 Channel HD-CVI Surveillance System
Review by Chuck Friddel on Jun 20, 2014
I've seen where many people purchase these HD-CVI or HD-SDI systems as an upgrade to an existing system however IO purchased mine for a brand new install. I ordered this system right here on Security Camera King's web catalog page early in the week and the entire system was sitting at my doorstep before the weekend. Therefore I felt compelled to install the system over the weekend (not only that, but as a newbie do it your-selfer I was kind of excited to get started). I'm a bit of a perfectionist so I wanted to make sure that all of my RG59 was either concealed or fastened down whenever possible. I discovered that if you are going to pass the cable through walls without any openings, most home improvement stores sell special drill bits that are about two feet long. These bits are nominally priced and some have a hole on the end for attaching a "pull wire" or "fishing" string at the end after you've finished drilling so all you have to do is pull the bit straight out, attach the wire/string to your cable and pull it through. I also purchased RG59 clips and fasteners to neatly route my cable. (Tie wraps also come in handy for a job like this.) Installing the Siamese cable is probably the biggest task you'll have installing this system, if you don't have easy access for placing the cable.

Mounting the cameras is basically a no brainer. Just screw the mounts to the walls/ceilings/eaves, etc. and aim the camera in the general area that you want to cover. After you have installed everything and fired up the system, you can go back and adjust the aim accordingly.

The video that is recorded from this system is impressive. It is very clear, sharp, and detailed with very accurate color reproduction. Not only is the recorded video impressive, but so is the DVR. It has an On Screen Display (OSD) menu system that is really quite easy to use. It's not using the OSD that takes some effort, but rather learning what the different functions are, how they affect your outcome, and how to navigate quickly to them on the OSD. I absolutely love the remote access function. In fact, I have to admit that once I had my system set up (I used my LCD TV for a monitor) I now usually access the system through either my PC at work or my iPhone when I am on the road.

Lastly, I had a few questions being new to this and all. I was surprised to find out that technical support was free (I was expecting one of those $2.50 a minute deals). When I realized I needed to contact them and realized it was free I expected one of those deals where you are on hold for an hour and then the tech is someone in a country half way around the world that can barely speak English and doesn't really know the system from beans. I was very wrong. Security Camera King has an excellent support staff that is more than willing to take the time to help you. In addition they know the products inside and out so I am confident that if they can't find a solution, know one can.

Considering the quality of the product and the customer service provided by Security Camera King, I can't rate them at anything less than five stars.

The only time I see a video image this good on coaxial cable is when I watch my TV on a high definition cable TV channel. I mean I know 1080p is even better but for a 720p High Definition quality video image you can't be this video security system. I recently used this on a farm where the owner wanted coverage of the inside of his barn (stables) which were located several hundred feet away from the main home. HD-CVI is supposed to carry a much longer distance that say standard HD-SDI so I thought I would give this system a try, but I have to be honest I am no expert in using CVI systems. Something tells me that is going to change however, because this system worked great! No degradation of the signal, no interference or digital noise and the video image is just as clear and colorful as can be. Infrared modes do not loose any clarity or definition in black and white mode either.

I recently sold one of these 8 chanel systems here in Houston.I was looking for a system that would set me apart from the other guys and man let me say this what a diffence in video quality. The images you get from this system is by far superb to any other system running on coaxial cable I have ever seen. Oh and price you can beat. if your looking for ip performance without the cost of new cabling and the headache of networking this is the way to go I dont think I'll be selling to many more analog systems after seeing this. and as always the sales and technical departments are always very knowledgable and helpful .I would like to see 16 channel capabilities as well as more camera selections; being new technology Im sure thats on the table to come. I highly recommend this system without a doubt.

Complete 8 Channel HD-CVI Surveillance System -- This Is Great!

Many people have impressions of we farmers as antiquated and using out-of-date equipment. Nothing more could be to the contrary for my business. I was looking for an 8 camera system that I could use for my home and my surrounding barn and equipment sheds but to combine the two, the cable run would be lengthy. I considered a network system but I don't feel confident running the CAT5 cable at a long distance without extra protection. However, I have no problems with the coaxial cable run because I have used it for other purposes for long runs. My brother-in-law told me about the new HD-CVI technology and when I did a search on Google, I discovered Security Camera King.

I purchased this system and received it within just a few days, 3 to be exact. It arrived all at once, every article being packaged well and in perfect working condition. I started my installation right away and completed it (not working on it full time, in about three days). Being a novice do-it-yourselfer CCTV installer, I must admit that I have run cables, electrical lines, etc. before so this was not a problem. However, the most difficult task for me was once the system was installed, I needed to adjust the cameras, and being new to this I didn't think to order nor did I have a portable monitor. If I had close neighbors, I'm sure they would have gotten a kick out of watching me run back and for from the house to each camera to make the adjustments via the DVR/monitor inside.

As for the performance of the equipment, it is excellent. The cameras are simple and easy to mount, they work great both during the day and at night. I really like the high definition color video during the day and I was surprised to discover that the infrared ode at night did not lose any resolution over the daytime color mode; the video was just as clear and detailed. The DVR works great too, and the On Screen Display or OSD is loaded with many features. The part I like the best is the remote access through my Internet connection. I just recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy 4 and the ability to use it to check on things when I'm not home or in a different area working is great. Of course, I had to refer to Security Camera King's support staff and their people are very, very good. Bottom dollar is that you should have no problem with self-installation considering the ease and their support department, and the equipment performs at a five star ranking.
