Complete 8 Channel Ultimate Mini DVR Security Camera System
Review by Himmel, Victor (Ohio USA) on Apr 01, 2013
I've been dealing with Security Camera King for about 4 years now and I have never had any problems with their products and my customers are satisfied with them as well. That includes this Complete 8 Channel Ultimate Mini system. I often recommend this system to my commercial customers that have no idea of what brand they would like and that don't require long term storage of data or a DVD burner. This system gives them the great quality of the Techvision DVR Ultimate series but at the same time makes the purchase price economical enough so that even small businesses can afford them. And let's not leave out my residential customers too, besides the Elite Mini 8 Channel, if they prefer an 8 Channel D1 real time resolution system, this is usually their "go to." I'm writing this review under this particular system but I also have to add that many times we go to the custom design ordering page because the customer may want/need a special camera, cable, etc. This Mini Ultimate still offers the customer all of the basics of the regular Ultimate DVR system without the large size of the DVR which means reduced internal storage hard drive capacity and no DVD burner. However, many customers don't use continuous recording but make use of motion detect recording and don't require a tremendous amount of storage space anyway. Even though this Ultimate is a "Mini" version you still get audio input and output features, alarm input and output features, and HDMI, VGA, and BNC simultaneous main monitor display options. The unit's case may be small but you can still store up to 8 Terabytes of video data internally. I have had reports of malfunctions, crashes, or other difficulties with these systems and some are almost 3 years old now. I would and do recommend this system and will continue to do so.

I recently purchased the Complete 8 Channel Ultimate Mini DVR Security Camera System from Security Camera King. So far, it seems to be a pretty good system. I didn't have any issues with my order (and I received it at home in about 4 days after placing my order), the cameras were pretty easy to mount (aiming and getting them to cover what I wanted them to cover was a little more challenging), and the DVR seems to be of adequate quality. What I wanted was a system that had a DVR that could display the cameras in at least D1 resolution, but I didn't need audio, alarms, or multiple displays. I could have purchased the Elite system, but I wanted me D1 recordings in real time (30 frames per second) so that left me with this one. I installed the system in my house myself. As a female who has remodeled her own house (including drywall, plumbing, etc.) I didn't expect this to be too difficult. However, Security Camera King markets their systems as do it your self systems, and they do a great deal extra on their website and with their support people to support that, but there are still some loopholes that made me go with a 3 star rating instead of a four or five. The actual printed instructions for installing the system are not very good at all. In fact they give a lot of instruction on set up and what not, but not actual installation. No where does it tell you in advance, nor does Security Camera King even offer them for sale, that you will need cable clips and few other things for your installation (that is, unless you want your cables to just dangle from the sides of your house). For the home, you are probably going to need a power trip or surge protector to plug in everything (the DVR and two power supplies need at least 3 sockets and the monitor can mean four). As for the actual components, they seem to be of high quality and to this point (about a month) they have worked very well. I'm glad the DVR comes with a 3 year warranty. One helpful hint to Security Camera King. You have some great individual videos, but why not make a video tutorial on installation, from beginning to end so the average non-professional will know entirely what to expect?
Reasonably Priced 8 Channel D1 Resolution In Realtime System!

It's not fair to compare this system to others on the Internet unless you are familiar with them because you can't really appreciate the quality of the Security Camera King system by just seeing it on your computer. Therefore, you can find some really cheaply made foreign knockoffs that are also cheaper in price. But wait until you go to install them and start using them and you'll see the difference. As far as comparing this system to one of Security Camera King's own security camera systems, the fairest would probably by the system with the 8 channel Ultimate (full size 2U) DVR. The Elite mini wouldn't be fair because it can't match resolution and recording frame rates. So, comparing this to its "big brother" this system is really quite a bargain because you really get just about the same type of features on the mine than on the full system, but for about $300 dollars less. And if you are installing this system yourself, you will likely save a few thousand dollars. Actually I think the most significant difference between this system and the full system is the fact that it doesn't have a DVD burner or more room for more internal hard disk drives. Granted there are a few other differences, but I think that this is truly the most significant so if you can live with that you'll be please with the mini. You still get three simultaneous full service monitors if needed by using the HDMI, VGA, and BNC ports. You also have the option of a spot monitor as well. The Internet features are incredible including email notification on triggered events such as motion detection, and remote access via personal computers, tablets, or smartphones. You can even have multiple users remotely access the DVR. It is a very good system and I would recommend it.

I was like a kid with a new toy when I got my Security Camera King Complete 8 Channel Ultimate Mini DVR Security Camera System! My wife and I wanted to get the security camera system because we have our first "child" on the way and I travel quite a bit for my job. I guess I never really gave it much thought about what could be done with it when we ordered it because this was the first time I ever purchased or was going to use a security camera system. I ended up coming back to Security Camera King to order additional supplies for extra features that we used such as wire, power splitters and a microphone for audio recording. I did this because we ended up using one of the cameras and the system as a baby monitor in the new nursery! (And it works great!) I placed the DVR in our bedroom and we will use a small LCD monitor with the HDMI input for sound at night when the baby arrives. We display just the one channel on this monitor. The living room is right next door so I ran a VGA cable from the DVR to my LCD big screen TV so I can check any of the channels when I am watching television by just changing the input choice on my TV. We also decided that as long as the DVR already came with an alarm switching system that can be used with external output devices and/or with the camera we would take advantage of that too so I wired the house. I had a little difficulty initially setting up our system and even though I was a little hesitant (from bad experiences with past computer companies) I contacted Security Camera King's support department. Wow! What a difference. They were very helpful, knowledgeable, and understanding and help me get everything set up including my remote access using my iPhone. The system captures high quality video at a large resolution and the microphone in the nursery does a really good job of picking up the sound in that room. I can actually talk to my wife on my hotel room phone when I'm away and see her and the rest of the house on my iPhone at the same time!

This is a nice system for do it yourself (or professional) installation. I received my order in on time and the contents were packed very well to prevent any damage from shipping. All of the order was there and intact. The DVR includes a USB mouse and a remote control. Plus the DVR also has packed with it a Video CD with lots of pictures and detailed instructions to tell you just about everything you need to know to install your system, especially for do-it-yourselfers. If you purchase your unit without a hard drive, Security Camera King also includes two SATA cables and mounting hardware for you to install your own. The cameras are rugged and have a good working color resolution of 600TVL. I upgraded one of my cameras to a PTZ and a couple others to the 600 TVL varifocal lens cameras. All cameras installed easily and were easy to connect to the DVR. The one thing I have noticed about Security Camera King Cameras that a lot of other dealers don't have in their package deals is the camera type. I realize that these are domes and other dealers may offer some odd looking bullets or even domes on an extended "pipe" mount (I call it a camera on a stick), but nonetheless, Security Camera King's cameras mount very solidly to the surface and if they have ball and joint or similar adjustments they are very secure. I've seen a lot of these other systems with "cameras on a stick" and they look really flimsy. The DVR displays a very clear picture regardless as to whether you are displaying one camera or all eight at once. The DVR is controlled by an On Screen Display menu system that is pretty intuitive and easy to use. If you have any problems, don't hesitate to call or email their support department because these people have some of the best customer service I've ever seen. I'll give their support department five stars and the system components four stars.
Ultimately The Best "Mini" 8 Channel Security System!

I purchased this system so I could install it in my bakery store. To cut to the chase, this is a very nice system! Installing the system myself was actually pretty easy. I did have to by a special bit for my drill so that it was long enough and wide enough to drill a holes through the walls for the cameras I placed outside. I also had to by some small mounting clips from the hardware store, but other than that, that was it. For my use, the mini suits me perfectly because I don't really have a need for a DVD burner or a lot of internal hard drive storage. However, I do like the larger recording size of the D1 resolution and the HDMI video output that the 8 channel Economy DVR doesn't have. I've read the manual and learned how to operate the system with just a little bit of time invested and I've decided that if I ever need to make DVDs of any footage I'll just copy it to my USB thumb drive and transfer it to my computer where I can make the DVD. Also, I can back up my internal hard drive to a USB hard drive if I need to but I really don't see the need at this time. The DVR comes with a slurry of additional features or options that allow you to have the freedom to set your system up just about anyway you want. And the best thing about the system is that I came operate it remotely from home (or in the bakery office even) from a computer or when I'm away I can check in on it with my iPhone. You get five stars from me Security Camera King!
Big Resolution Recording From a Small Size DVR System!

I purchased Security Camera King's Complete 8 Channel Ultimate Mini DVR Security Camera System about 8 months ago and I have enjoyed it ever since. I am a professional photographer and my studio is a small building that sits right next to my house. This Ultimate Mini system has provided me with the protection I need for both the house and the studio. Furthermore, using my iPhone I can access it and the cameras wherever I am to keep a watchful eye on things. The thing I like most about it is the clarity and resolution of the video recordings and even the displays. I upgraded to 700 TVL cameras and with this and D1 real-time recording resolution I get fantastic video coverage of my property. If your looking for some comments on the "technical" side of things I can contribute a few. The DVR accepts up to four channels of audio input (I don't use any) and can record the audio as well. Display output options include HDMI, VGA, and BNC. Of course the most convenient is the HDMI as most any LCD monitor/television has this type of connection and it can also carry the audio with the video. You don't have to record D1 resolution size. You can reduce the size to CIF if you like, which will also increase the storage capacity of your hard drive. The DVR can be connected to a (preferably) broadband Internet connection and from there you can remotely access your system using a computer, tablet, or smartphone. If you need to make copies or back ups of your video files you can use a USB thumb drive to transfer the files to your computer and burn a DVD from it or you can also back it up directly to your computer's hard drive. The DVR carries a full 3 year warranty and the cameras and other items a 1 year warranty. I'm very satisfied and will rate this system at five stars.

This is an excellent package deal, I like it a lot. The Ultimate mini gives you the advantage of recording all channels simultaneously at big D1 resolution in real time (30 fps) while saving you the money of the full size unit. The trade off is the size of the unit - it is smaller which means it cannot hold an internal DVD burner or as many internal storage drives. The DVD burner issue can easily be worked around by using a USB flash drive. It has a much larger capacity these days than a DVD anyway and you can always use it to copy the files to your personal computer and burn a DVD from it. Storage space could be an issue at D1 resolution for 8 cameras running continuously, but the unit can still hold a maximum of 6 Terabytes of storage which running all 8 cameras continuously would still give you a theoretical time span of about 3 to 4 days before needing to back up the files and overwrite them. You can increase this recording time by lowering the quality of the recording, reducing the recording "on" time, or even reducing the resolution of the recording (although that would kind of defeat the purpose of having the Ultimate DVD). Overall, the Ultimate mini system is a great system with good 600 TVL color cameras that are also infrared ready complete with their own built in LEDs for night time illumination. I'll give it a five star rating and I highly recommend it.
PROS
-Easy to install
-Economical price for an 8 camera system
-Large 708 X 480 real time recording size
-HDMI video/sound output option available
-DVR has an on screen display (OSD) menu system that can be operated by a USB mouse, an infrared remote control, or the DVR buttons
-All 8 channels can playback at the same time
-Has Internet connectivity for remote access using smartphones and computers
-Can back video footage up to a USB flash drive
-3D PTZ mouse control
-DVR has a 3 year warranty
CONS
-Cameras are good resolution at 600 TVL but have no OSD or controllable enhancement features
-Not enough room in the unit for a DVD burner
-The DVR's OSD may be a little overwhelming for novice users
-No loop outs (often used in commercial applications)
Complete 8 Channel Ultimate Mini DVR Security Camera System

I employ about 30 local people in my local food processing plant and in today's economy I have had to find different methods to cut costs so that I can maintain the wages of my employees. Purchasing Security Camera King's Complete 8 Channel Ultimate Mini DVR Security Camera System was one method that helped me do just that. We use this system in perhaps an "unconventional" manner. That is, we don't actually use it for security; we use it to monitor our factory system. By placing cameras at various critical control points throughout the processing line, we can monitor the entire production line for not only ensuring that we produce a high quality product, but that it is done safely as well. The 8 Channel Ultimate Mini system is perfect for this. The 600 TVL color cameras along with recording D1 on all channels simultaneously makes for a very nice, detailed viewing of the area, workers, instruments, or machines we need to see and monitor. Furthermore, one employee can monitor the activity at these points anytime throughout the day (as opposed to several employees or supervisors) and should something ever go wrong, we have the critical control points recorded to show us where the the mistake occurred. I installed the system myself; it was very easy to install and set up. When the potential for remote access via the Internet finally dawned on me, I had a broadband Internet line run to the unit so I can monitor things myself when I am away. This is an excellent system and I would recommend it to others as well.
