HD-SDI 1080P Box Camera
Review by Jack Light- on Sep 21, 2014
I've been using box cameras for a long time and I have a tendency to prefer them over other types because I like the versatility they offer. This camera is no different. The camera captures great high resolution video at 1080p (2 megapixels) and the video picture is detailed, clear, and color correct. The light sensitivity isn't bad, but honestly I think it could be a little better, of course the lens type you use can affect this too. Since Security Camera King recommends you use their 3.3 to 12mm 1/2.7 inch megapixel camera lens, that is what I normally use with it. The quality of the picture is as I said before, impressive.

Excellent high definition camera! I purchased 4 of these cameras from Security Camera King and I love them! I recently upgraded my old video security system and after seeing demonstrations of high definition megapixel recordings decided that that was exactly what I wanted to up grade to. However, I assumed it would have to be an IP network system and I didn't know at first if that would work for me (I'm just a small store and I have no "network." After doing more research, I did learn that a network wasn't necessary for and IP network system (if that makes any sense!) However, I also discovered the HD-SDI technology, which for me was even better. I could use my same old coaxial cable for my old, out dated system, for my new HD-SDI system with a 2 megapixel or 1080p output! Better yet, in the long run, the HD-SDI equipment is generally cheaper than the IP network system equipment and I still get the benefits of using remote access on a computer, smartphone, etc.

As far as this particular camera is concerned, I use all of them indoors so no enclosure was needed, but I did purchase the Security Camera King megapixel varifocal lens. In addition to the megapixel resolution, the varifocal lens gives me just the right amount of zoom so I can use these cameras throughout the store in wide angle configuration, or zoomed in enough to catch every detail at the checkout counter. The camera has an On Screed Display (OSD) that is built in and controls many useful features including wide dynamic range, back light compensation, high light compensation, digital noise reduction, and many others. The video that is produces is detailed, sharp, and color accurate. The only feature that is not superior is the low light sensitivity. Although that is not an issue for me as the lights are always on in the store (so I really haven't tested this so to speak) the rating for low light sensitivity is 1.0 lux in color and 0.54 lux in black and white.

This is a nice average HD-SDI megapixel camera. Nothing overly special about the camera except it does capture a great security video. It looks an acts like a basic 700TVL security camera, even connects to the same coaxial cable, but this one pumps out a 2 megapixel quality high definition video picture that you won't get out of a 700TVL camera. The camera also has an average infrared range distance of about 50 feet in total darkness. It's a good all around basic camera to load up your system if that's what you are looking for.

These newer HD-SDI cameras have become quite the hype especially because you can use them with existing coaxial. We have an old system with RG59 and we finally got tired of the substandard images, the lack of stability, and the general poor quality so we decided it was time for an upgrade. The ability to use our existing cable runs was definitely a factor in going with this HD-SDI system, but forget about all that, the video image with this camera is outrageous! There are things you can easily see on the images produced by this cameras recordings that before looked like inkblots on a piece of paper. This is a nice camera and it has some interesting and useful features with the OSD.

If you like box cameras and have an HD-SDI system or are wanting to install one, this is a great choice. This camera captures a 1080p (2 megapixel) resolution video picture and records it in real time. It's a standard box camera installation, nothing complicated there. The lens plug-in is on the back of the camera instead of the conventional cameras that usually have it on the side. The camera has a built in OSD which is controlled by buttons on the back of the camera. It also has a regular type BNC connection for use with a portable monitor to focus and set up the camera on mount. Works great and I certainly have no complaints.

Amazing video security camera for such a low price! I was shocked, to be honest when I first saw this on Security Camera King's on line catalog. A 2 megapixel (1080p) resolution camera for a less than $150? I though it was a misprint so I called Security Camera King to make sure. I ordered the camera and the megapixel camera lens and received them in just a couple of days. The camera is relatively small (it can basically fit in the palm of your hand without the lens) and as the conventional TVL type box camera look. The video it produces is crisp, detailed, colorful video. The camera is loaded with features too. Not only does it have a HD-SDI BNC type connection but it also has an analog (TVL camera) type BNC connection, primarily for connecting a portable monitor for making adjustments and focusing on installation/setup. The camera has an OSD with many relevant features. This is an excellent value!
