It appears the TV adjustment control right, left, top, bottom, works only with the video out and not the HDMI output or is there a different control for the HDMI?

Correct. The hdmi and VGA resolution is set under settings>display. Also your tv needs to be able to auto adjust the image. Refer to your tv manual to find out how to do this.
