New 8 port NVR w/POE.  Just set up 4 IP cameras (ONVIF).  Under CAM NAME I am not able to change the "Camera Name".  When I click into the grey Channel 1 field (or any of them) it does not allow me to enter anything.

Also, under REMOTE, I am unable to add anything to the "Device Name" field".

Thanks,

Greg

Hi Creg,

that is absolutely normal. Due to the nature of ONVIF many features will not be available at the NVR itself, you will need to go to the camera and change the overlay name but the button name at the NVR will always be Something like CAM1.

Thanks Jesus,

Are there other protocols I can use to gain this functionality?

On a somewhat related question, in order to change the overlay text on the cam itself, is there a way I can connect to the cam with my PC via the NVR switch (assign the IP of my pc to the nvr IP subnet) or do i need to disconnect the cam from the nvr and connect the cam directly to the PC?

If you want t have that feature you will need to purchase EL cameras. Those are only type of cameras that will blend 100% You can connect to the camera if you are using the POE build in of the NVR by connecting your PC to one of the ports of the NVR build in POE then you will need to know the IP address of the TP camera in order to access it.

Smart PSS should allow you to change any camera name if you choose to use it over the Web Service.  It is a more comprehensive program than a browser plugin.

Smart PSS Windows (2015)

Please note that what Jesus says is correct, and I am only assuming that your goal is to have cameras labeled in your viewing software.  Onvif cameras only allow you to create a name in the video window.
