Sunday, November 15th, 2009

There are many uses for security cameras. One of the more popular uses is using a security camera to monitor your baby. This is actually very easy to do. There are several ways to accomplish the task of monitoring your bay with video, but the one of the best methods is to use a standard security camera connected to a DVR. This is also a good way to monitor the nanny or care giver of the bay, which is often referred to as a nanny cam.

The best way to do this is to install a standard security camera in the baby’s room. It is preferable to use an infrared camera so that you can see what the baby is doing at night when the lights are off. If all you will be doing is monitoring the bay and nothing else in your house, you are better of just simply mounting the camera in the baby’s room and connect it to a DVR right there. You can then either run a CAT5 back to your router from the DVR, or you can use a wireless access point to connect to the router wirelessly. If you plan on having additional security cameras connected in your home, you may want to have the DVR connected somewhere more central for all the cameras to be able to me connected with less wiring.

Once you have all your security cameras mounted and connected to the DVR and you have the DVR connected to your network and properly configured, you can then use the wireless network to monitor your cameras. From anywhere in your home, you will be able to monitor your surveillance cameras by connecting wirelessly from any PC or Laptop to your DVR using the internal IP address. That means you can use an inexpensive laptop like a netbook (often found for under $300) to monitor your cameras will moving around in your home. You will find this very convenient. Additionally, you can use the DVR to monitor the audio of the baby’s room, thereby eliminating the need for a baby monitor. Now you will be able to hear and see everything that is going on in your baby’s bedroom. Also, you will be able to keep an eye on things while you are gone from home. Any PC, anywhere on the Internet will be able to monitor the baby if they have the correct IP address, user name and password.

Nanny Cams

Nanny cams usually refer to covert cameras. The basic principle is to have hidden cameras that can record events that occur while a nanny or caregiver is caring for someone. Hidden cameras are available in many forms. Unfortunately, you will often sacrifice quality with many of the usable hidden cameras. The most common covert cameras are smoke detector and motion detector cameras. Smoke detectors are often found in many rooms in the common household. Covert smoke detector cameras look just like the real thing, only they have a small board camera hidden inside. They make great nanny cams because they almost never look out of place. The next most common nanny camera is the covert motion detector. If you have an alarm system in your home, then a spy camera installed inside of a common alarm system motion detector will not look out of place. As an added bonus, some actually work and detect motion and flash just like the real thing.

Both of these cameras are excellent choices for spy cameras or nanny cams. They are usually connected to your DVR just like any other camera.
