PTZ Dome Surveillance Camera

The Pan Tilt Zoom dome surveillance camera or PTZ dome surveillance camera is one of the most versatile dome cameras on the market today. Not only does it offer the standard electronic features of most other dome cameras, but the PTZ model can do just that–Pan, Tilt, and Zoom.

What is Pan-Tilt-Zoom or PTZ?  Panning is the ability of the camera to move about a horizontal plane; in other words the camera can turn from left to right and/or all the way around in a circle.  Tilting refers to the cameras ability to move about a vertical plane, in other words the camera can move up and down.  With no walls, poles, or mounts to impede the view, a pan tilt zoom camera can easily maneuver its lens in any position equal or greater to that of an area covering 1/2 sphere.

But we’ve only talked about Panning and Tilting.  PTZ dome surveillance cameras have one more powerful feature – Zoom.  These cameras can change their focal length (automatic varifocal lens) so they can go from a wide angle close-up shot to a narrow angle enlarged shot.

Most PTZ dome surveillance cameras have miniature motors that drive the camera and lens through their PTZ functions.  These are generally the best type of PTZ cameras.  Some cameras have something called “digital PTZ” which is an electronic based feature that doesn’t physically move the camera.  Of course, digital PTZ has many more limitations than regular PTZ.

Many PTZ dome surveillance cameras have the ability to detect motion.  When a PTZ camera can detect motion, it can be used to track or follow objects. This maybe most useful when the cameras are used as parking lot monitors.  Using object tracking or following, the cameras can help keep track of the vehicles that come and go as well as the people.

Security Camera King offers a variety of Pan Tilt Zoom Cameras which range in price from $199.95 to $985.99.  Security Camera King offers two different models of auto tracking Pan Tilt Zoom cameras.  The first, Product# VP-ATDNC27X is priced at $707.69 and includes day/night capture and 27X zoom.  The second model is Security Camera King’s SVP-ATDN36X.  This is similar to the first with the major difference being an increase in zoom capability to 36X.

Security Camera King’s PTZ-LX550L3X is an affordable solution for a PTZ camera priced at $199.95 with a resolution of 550 TVL!  This camera has a 3X Zoom lens with 360 degree continuous rotation pan.  It can tilt from 0 to 90 degrees and flip.  This is a high resolution high definition display producing camera.

Further, the PTZ-LX550L3X offers 32 preset points with pattern tours including programmable 16 preset point number and dwell time/speed.  The camera can auto scan as well as be programmed to auto return to its home position.  This camera is rated IP66 for outdoor use so it can be used as an indoor or outdoor camera.

The PTZ-HN03100 is the perfect solution for a hands-down high quality Pan Tilt Zoom camera that works well with any of our featured Digital Video Recorders or DVRs.  This camera is also a super high resolution camera weighing in at 540 TVL.  It is vandal proof, IP66 rated with the outdoor mount, has auto gain control, auto white balance, and an on-screen display.  In addition it offers 10X optical and 10X digital for a combined 100X zoom capability.

Try Security Camera King’s SVP-54CDN10X 540 TVL Mini Dome Surveillance Camera.  This is a Veilux camera and as many of our customers attest on their reviews, Veilux makes some of the most versatile and highest quality cameras available.  This maybe a mini camera, but there is nothing “mini” about its results.  It offers true day/night with color day time video and black and white when the visible light becomes less than .02 Lux in brightness.

This camera offers up to 256 presets and it offers high speed pan and tilt.  It even comes with its own wall mount!  Priced at $664.50 it’s a professional level camera that offers professional results.

A Pan Tilt Zoom dome surveillance camera is a versatile, powerful, and cost savings camera.  When these cameras are placed properly, one camera can easily replace the need for 2, 3, or 4 otherwise stationary cameras, making the PTZ camera an actual cost savings investment.

Network PTZ Dome Surveillance Camera

Written By:

If you are looking for an Internet based camera you should consider one of Security Camera King’s Network PTZ Dome Surveillance Cameras.  These cameras are very versatile with lots of additional features than just Pan-Tilt-Zoom.  In the following article, we’ll take a look at how these cameras work and give an overview on each of these types of cameras that Security Camera King has to offer.

First let’s talk a bit about the camera.  There are IP or Internet Protocol ready dome cameras that may or may not have the ability to pan, tilt, and zoom.  Like wise there are dome cameras that are not IP ready that do have the ability to pan, tilt, zoom.  The dome cameras we discuss in this article are IP ready AND have the ability to pan, tilt, and zoom.  Often times they may be referred to as Network PTZ Dome Surveillance Cameras.

IP cameras are regular digital video cameras with extra electronic circuitry built inside.  The extra circuitry is what is needed to support the camera on the Internet; in other words these cameras do not directly plug into a Digital Video Recorder or DVR.  What they do connect to is a broadband internet connection, usually through CAT5 Ethernet cable.

The camera contains its own Web server technology and once a few pieces of information are provided to the camera’s setup program, the camera begins streaming video via the Internet to either a Network server or to your PC.  You may see an overwhelming amount of 3 and 4 letter initials mentioned under network protocol.  Don’t let these bother you, this is merely a list of the different network protocols that the camera is compatible with.

One acronym that we should mention is PoE.  If the camera is PoE capable (and most, but not all IP cameras usually are) that means the camera can obtain the power it needs to operate with the Ethernet connection, hence the term PoE stands for “Power Over Ethernet.”  This means it is not necessary for you to install a power cable for your camera.

While PTZ camera don’t have to be Internet ready cameras, many IP ready cameras do have “Digital PTZ.”  PTZ or Pan-Tilt- Zoom are movement terms somewhat unique to the photograph and film industry.  Pan means the camera can move horizontally.  Tilt means the camera can move up and down.  Zoom is a function that narrows the FOV and enlarges the appearance of individual objects.

Security Camera King offers four different network PTZ dome surveillance cameras.  The following list those cameras and provides a short summary of their features.

Best Security Camera

Written By:
Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

Today’s big question – what is the best security camera.  Today’s big answer – that depends.  Security cameras come in wso many different types and varieties for so many different applications, that it is truly difficult to say this is “the best security camera.”  Probably, a more practical question is, “What is the best security camera for this particular application?”

In the following article, we’ll try to help determine what some of the best security cameras are that Security Camera King (SCK) offers based on their application.  Remember everyone’s situation (and application) is different, so it’s important to consider these cameras as presented without tight restrictions.

First, let consider the standard box camera.  SCK has three box cameras listed in our catalog.  The best security camera of the three would more than likely be the 600 TVL Dual Power Wide Dynamic Range Box Surveillance camera, Product# SVS-60CDNRD if you need a box camera that has the capability of accepting both of the standard digital video camera power supply inputs, 12 Volts DC or 24 Volts AC.  This camera is a Veilux brand camera and it goes without saying that Veilux cameras are some of the highest quality cameras made in the industry.

On the other hand, if dual power is not a concern then SCK’s Product# BC-EL600 600 TVL Super High Resolution Wide Dynamic Range Security Camera is probably the best security camera of this type.  Here’s why:  Both cameras offer super high resolution, 600 TVL, which provides an extremely highly detailed video image with great clarity and crispness.

Botch cameras also offer comparable camera features, but the BC-EL600 excels over the SVS-60CDNRD in that it offers a two year (versus one) and is currently $20.00 cheaper in price ($139.95 vs $159.95).

The third box camera offered bys SCK really has no comparable camera as it is a special use camera, designed for high-speed license plate capture.  However, when comparing this camera to many others offered throughout the industry, Product# VSSC-54CDNR-90, is a top of the line best security camera for this special use.

Now let’s turn our attention to bullet cameras.  SCK offers eight different bullet type security cameras.  The Product# OB-LX420IR50 is a great buy for a standard type bullet camera.  It has a range of approximately 65 feet for Infrared recording which is good, however if you are looking for a camera with an extremely high detailed high resolution ouput, this camera only offers a resolution of 420 TVL.  On the other hand, if price is your main concern, this camera definitely qualifies as a best security camera with a featured price of only $49.99.

Comparing the Product# OB-LX550IR120 and the Product # SVB-58IR48 both offer similar features.  Both cameras are indoor/outdoor day/night infrared cameras, however the latter camera, the SVB-58IR48 has and edge over the OB-LX550IR120 in that it offers a viewing resolution of 580 TVL vs only 550 TVL.  This comes at a cost of $24.04 more, but it is well worth the price.  Therefore, between these two cameras, the OB-LX550IR120 could be considered the best security camera.

Considering the remaining bullet cameras not mentioned so far, here are what can be considered the best security cameras:  Product# OB-LX550IR2150L922 for its superior 200 foot IR range distance and 550 TVL resolution at an extremely economical price of $159.95; Product# TPS-QLBAZ1 for it’s extremely high resolution of 650 TVL and its ability to produce true day/night color video images; and, special use Product #SVB-60IRC80L650D for its unbelievable long range IR capability outdoors of up to 395 feet!

We now come to dome cameras.  There are so many dome cameras available for different applications that a book could probably be written comparing them all and trying to determine what would be the best security camera. That being said, we shall limit our discussion to the two dome cameras that SCK includes with their packaged security systems, Product# OD-LX420IR50 and Product# OD-LX520IR50.   These two cameras offer some of the “biggest bang for the buck” in dome cameras.

Essentially, the two cameras have identical features with the latter offering a much higher resolution display (that’s why it is bundled with the Ultimate series DVR).  Each camera is day/night infrared with a 50 foot range, light weight, easy to mount, and  vandal resistant.  Granted these cameras may not be considered the best security camera, but they are top of the line. Electrical Outlet Camera

Written By:
Friday, February 18th, 2011

Why would anyone want to have an electrical outlet camera? That’s precisely what you’ll want people to think. That’s what makes the electrical outlet camera so ideal for covert digital video security and surveillance applications.

Half the battle of creating a great, undetectable or covert digital video camera system is having the technology to produce a camera and Digital Video Recorder or DVR small enough to be concealed or disguised in other objects. The other half of the battle of design is finding an object that is so common that the object itself goes unnoticed.

Enter Security Camera King’s “Electrical Outlet Hidden Camera with DVR and 8GB SD Card.”

This electrical outlet camera is actually a collection of technological innovations and it’s not only a camera but a mini digital video security system all in one. There is only one thing this unit won’t do; IT WILL NOT FUNCTION AS AN ACTUAL ELECTRICAL OUTLET. But what it won’t do as far as the outlet is concerned, it more than makes up for in the .
hidden security camera department
This electrical outlet camera has the appearance of one of those outlet devices that plugs into both outlets on a wall plate, splitting them into a total of six different outlets with ground receptacles. Although the unit does not function as an electrical outlet, it does derive its power from the actual outlet it is plugged into.

The outlet contains a digital video color security camera with a resolution of 380 TVL. In addition it features automatic motion activated recording, scheduled recording, and remote control operation. The recording features include a “time and date stamp” for further documentation accuracy.

The electrical outlet camera’s built in DVR offers plenty of features too. The DVR records to SD card media so the recording capacity time is dependent on the size of the card. An 8 Gigabyte (GB) SD card is included which allows you to record up to 144 hours of video AND audio. However, if that’s not enough, purchase your own additional SD card(s) with a greater capacity (a 16 GB SD card for example) and extend your recording time to up to 288 hours.

The built-in DVR in this electrical outlet camera uses the MPEG-4 CODEC. A Compression/DECompression utility or CODEC is used to compress large digital video files into smaller ones without losing a significant amount of quality. Digital video security cameras actually create their video footage by taking several digital photographs in rapid succession. When played back in rapid succession these photographs fool the human eye into seeing a fluid motion video. Motion video can be created with as few as 12 photographs (also known as “frames) taken every second up to as many as 30 frames per second or fps. The following lists the approximate maximum recording times based on the use of the included 8 GB SD Card:

Resolution at 640 x 480 and 12 fps
• High Quality–approximately 8 hours recording time.
• Medium Quality–approximately 48 hours recording time.
• Low quality– approximately 72 hours recording time; and for

Resolution at 320 x 240 and 30 fps
• High Quality–approximately 16 hours recording time.
• Medium Quality–approximately 96 hours recording time.
• Low Quality–approximately 144 hours recording time.

Once you have finished recording, pull out the easy-to-remove SD card and download the digital video files right to your personal computer where you can view, copy, and/or archive the files. For some computers without a multi-media card reader, you may be required to purchase one of these for your computer.

But that’s not all! The included miniature DVR is more that just a recording device, it can play back the files as well. If you don’t have a computer, you can still view your captured color digital video by using the included RCA cable to connect the unit to your television.

This electrical outlet camera is great for use a home or office security or surveillance camera. Since the unit is totally self-sufficient or a stand alone, that it, it doesn’t require any other devices to work, it can be used in a variety of applications. Retail store merchandise monitoring, employee monitoring in the office, as a nanny cam in the home, and warehouse monitoring are just some of the possible uses for this device.
