Does anyone know if there is a max outgoing SMTP password length on a (about) 5 year old elite series NVR?
I keep entering an 8 character PW (minimum required by outlook) and when I try to apply it is gets shorter. I have no idea what is is defaulting to as there is no way to unhide the PW.
It is running software version 4.001.xxxxx
I have outlook working for an outgoing server on a few newer NVR's... Confused why it is not working on this one.
Thanks!
Unfortunately, it may well be that the SMTP server is blocking the communication as seen with AOL, Gmail, Yahoo, and others alike. Some have been able to use the Gmail app password feature and set up 2-factor. The shrinking of the password is just a security measure to obscure what it really is. Another thing that could be the case is the TLS and SSL versions, sometimes you can get lucky and there is a newer firmware but if the firmware does not have the latest current one being used you will find yourself in the same situation.

Thanks Jose... That could be the case, but I am using outlook as that seems to be the go-to for 3rd party apps using SMTP at this moment in time.
I do have one system set up with gmail with 3rd party permissions that has worked flawlessly, but could not add another about a month ago. That is when I set up another system using outlook and it has been working fine.
Now I am adding yet another system and I cannot seem to get it to work. This is the oldest NVR I have attempted to set up and am having issues. I will dig a little deeper and make sure the new address I set up works and keep tinkering with it.
This feature is really handy for sending text messages , in my case using mostly Verizon vtext or vzwpix to send SMS message to concerned parties when certain events happen who do not have EVP on their mobile devices.

Got it working!
Issue was late night and confusion with my password manager app pasting an old password into the NVR SMTP area. My bad...
For those who are interested, Outlook does work well for third party app SMTP hosting. I have a number of machines using it now, and my own personal machine I use Gmail (with all of the steps taken for 2FA and third party stuff) but Outlook is much easier!
Thanks!
That is awesome!, please post your settings here (omitting your personal data) so folks can take advantage of this.
