Playback and Backup with Smart PSS

In this tutorial, we will be going over the steps for setting up playback and backup with Smart PSS. For this setup to be successful, your recorder will have to be set up with Smart PSS already. If you have not done so, check out our video on Setting Up An Elite Recorder With Smart PSS.

If you’re interested in purchasing any Elite Products, security cameras, recorders, and more, visit our online security camera store. If you need further technical or sales assistance, please contact Security Camera King.

Setting Up Playback and Backup with Smart PSS

The first thing you will need to do is open up Smart PSS. Next, you will need to navigate to playback on the left. You should see the default group with your camera system.

Once it’s loaded, de-collapse the options and you should see a list of all your cameras. You can select more than one camera to search at once, but for this tutorial, we will only select one camera.

Take note of the additional options you see down in the bottom-left part of the screen. The first is Record Type. Here you can select from a number of different record types, such as Motion or Intelligent. Go ahead and leave it set to All Records.

The Stream Type should always be left on Main Stream for the best quality.

In the Calendar option, you can set a start date and start time as well as an end date and end time. You can choose from any of the days at which you have footage. There’s only a maximum 24-hour window time that it can search. For example, you can search yesterday’s recordings and check the full 24-hour window. Then select OK.

When all your parameters are set, click Search. When the search is completed, you’ll see an indicator and that the seat bar is now filled with information. Some might be green, some might be orange, and some might be red to indicate the different types of footage.

Pressing play, you can start the footage from the beginning of the file time selected and then click anywhere in the seat bar to choose a different time of day to start playing from.

In order to download the footage, the first thing you’ll need to do is select the scissor icon you see in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. Once clicked, the scissor icon will place two indicators for a start time and end time. For example, you can select about 15 minutes starting from right around noon to around 12:15.

Once your time is selected, click the scissor icon again. When the scissor is selected, it will bring up a window allowing you to select a folder to download to. We recommend putting this folder on your desktop so that it can easily be found.

Once selected, you can also choose a file format type to export in and simply click OK. The next window will indicate that playback needs to stop in order to download, which is normal. Simply click OK and you can watch your progress as the download completes.

To successfully playback any file exported from any recorder, we highly recommend downloading and extracting the Elite Smart Player, which can be found on our Security Camera King Downloads page.

That completes the tutorial covering the steps for playback and backup with Smart PSS for Elite recorders. Thank you for following along. If you have any questions or require further technical or sales assistance, please contact Security Camera King for help.
