I am helping a friend get her security system working in her small store.

The system has 8 QSM1424C cameras. I have connected them directly to a TV and each work fine.

The DVR is a model DVR-CVI8240M. Google leads me here, but I haven't been able to find any manuals or other documentation about this DVR here. Where can I find those?

When the DVR boots up, it says it is:

  • Device Model HCVR
  • Channels 8
  • System Version 2.616.GV01.12
  • Build Date 2014-01-22
  • Web 3.1.0.3
  • When I connect the cameras to the DVR, I cannot see any video from any of the cameras.

The DVR seems to have an encode settings page which seems to be a page to tell the DVR all about the camera, but when I cycle through settings that seem reasonable, I see no change from the DVR (that is, there is still no video present)

Do you happen to know the correct settings for a QSM1424C?

What is the resolution of the QSM1424C

  • 720P
  • 960H
  • D1
  • HD1
  • 2CIF
  • CIF
  • QCIF?

And what other settings should I set?

Any help you can offer would be appreciated,

Thanks,

Jerry

based on that model DVR and that model camera the camera is analog and the DVR is CVI technology. They do not match therefore you will not be able to see them in the DVR. If you have CVI DVR you will need to use a CVI camera.

 Q-See tech support tells me:

The QSM1424C Camera's are analog Camera's and do not give an 720p or 1080p output.

There is a chance that the camera's are not compatible with the DVR.
Below are the camera specs.

Category Description
Connectors BNC (F), 12VDC 2.1mm (F)
Image Sensor 1/4" Color PixelPlus CMOS
Lens 6.0mm
Horizontal Resolution 400 TVL
Effective Pixels 640x480 NTSC / PAL
Field of View 40°
Connectors BNC (F), 12VDC 2.1mm (F)
Minimum Illuminance 0 Lux (with LEDs)
Infrared LEDs/Distance 24/40ft
IR LED Wavelength 850nM
Waterproof Level IP55
Electronic Shutter Speed 1/50 (NTSC), 1/60 (PAL) - 1/100000 sec
Scanning System Interlace 2:1
Synchronization Internal
Audio Output None
S/N Ratio >48dB
Gamma Characteristic 0.45
Power Supply DC12V 500mA
Power Consumption <3W (LEDs on)
Operating Temperature 14°F to 122°F (-10°C to 50°C)
Dimensions(WxDxH) 2.31 x 3.36 x 2.15 in (58.8x85.5x54.6 mm)
Weight 10.75 oz (305g)

The DVR shows that it records in Full HD, HD and D1. Please check with the DVR manufacturer if the DVR is compatible with Analog camera's with D1 Resolution.

Hi Jerry,

Here is the Spec Sheets  , Here is the Manual

The QSM1424C are a Q-See Analog Camera. The reason you are not getting a Picture is because this recorder cannot handle Analog cameras it is meant for CVI Cameras Found Here

Feel Free to give me a call if you need to purchase the correct cameras. 866 573-8878 ext 116

Thanks Jesus, I didn't see your reply until I added my own.

So I gather the cameras and the DVR are not compatible. Having seen the layout of how the cameras were installed, my guess is the store owner would prefer to use the same wiring, but update her cameras.

A couple of things then:

  1. Can you point me to where I can find a manual for the DVR?
  2. Is it possible to install CVI cameras using the same wiring as analog cameras?
  3. Can you suggest a few cameras that would be compatible and that are similar to the QSM1424C?

Thanks,

Jerry
