Building a custom security camera system has many benefits. As you go through the following selection process:
Recording Device:
First, you will want to decide how many cameras you will be recording. Most DVRs come in either 4,8,16 or 32 channel configurations. Keep in mind that it is usually a good idea to chose a digital video recorder that can record more channels than you origianlly intended to use because it is very common for our customers to call us back later to request to upgrade their units to a larger capacity DVR. So if you are thinking about a 4 channel security camera system, I would recommend you choose an 8 channel DVR with 4 cameras so that you will have the ability to add more cameras later.
Once you have decided on the number of channels, you will need to decide which DVR or NVR you want. We have many different models to chose from. All of our DVRs and NVRs share the same basic platform. They navigate the same way, have similar menus and at first glance will seem almost the same. The differences are in the capabilities they have. Usually this is tied to the processor being used (think about the difference between the same car with a 4 cyl, 6cyl, 8 cyl or 12cyl option) or to the size of the case being use (ie. 1U or 2U). Here is a quick rundown of our DVRs and NVRs:
Elite Mini Economy Series DVR:
This DVR is our most economical unit. It comes in a 1U case with a BNC and VGA video output. It will hold one internal hard drive and no DVD burner. Otherwise, it is a very similar DVR to all our Elite Series units.
Elite Mini Series DVR:
The Elite Mini Series adds a more powerful processor which provides a the ability to record at higher resolutions (D1 resolution) in realtime on channels 1 and 9. Also, there is the addition of an HDMI 1080P video output. Otherwise, this unit is very similar.
Elite Series DVR:
The Elite Series DVR again offers a more advanced DSP (processor) and comes in a 2U case. This offers that additional ability to hold up to 4 internal hard drives (except the 32 channel model which can support 8 hard drives), a DVD burner, loop outs on every channel and audio recording on every channel and E-SATA port.
Ultimate Mini Series DVR:
This series DVR comes in a 1U case which can support up to 2 internal hard drives. The biggest benefit of the move up to the Ultimate Series DVR is the ability to record at the highest resolution (D1) 704x480 in realtime (30fps) on all channels at the same time. This is by far the best value in DVRs in the industry today.
Ultimate Series DVR:
The Ultimate Series DVR has all the features of the Ultimte Mini Series, but comes in a 2U case which allows for up to 8 internal hard drives, loop outs for all channels, audio recording for all channels and E-SATA Port.
Ultimate Hybrid Series DVR:
The Ultimate Hybrid Series DVR is a combination between our Ultimate DVR and our NVR. This DVR can record 16 channel at D1 reoslution in realtime on all channels at the same time and can also record an additional four Megapixel IP security cameras at 2 Megapixel resolution (1920 x 1080) in realtime! This is an amazing capability and will provide you more than 6 times the reosolution of a D1 video recording.
Elite Mini Series NVR:
This NVR network video recorder is used to record video from our Megapixel IP security cameras. It can record up to 2 Megapixel Video in realtime on 4 channels. This NVR will support up to 2 internal hard drives. It will work with all of our video management and smart phone applications so it can be easily integrated into an existing security camera system.
Elite Series NVR:
The Elite Series NVR comes in a 2U case which can support up to 8 internal hard drives and 4 Megapixel Security cameras recording at up to 2 Megapixel in realtime.
