32 Channel Elite Mini Network Video Recorder
Review by Barry Bales, Bales Security on May 08, 2014
This is a nice NVR for the price. If you want optimal bandwidth usage for cameras while maintaining a reasonable price for a recorder this NVR meets those criteria. The major differences in this "Mini" unit compared to a "full size" unit is that it can only hold two internal hard disk drives and has no audio inputs or outputs and of course, no room for an internal DVD burner. It does still offer two way audio for intercom type use. With a recording speed of 128 Mbps this NVR can actually handle cameras as high as 3 megapixels but remember that total usage is determinant on the total system usage is determinant on the total number of cameras used, their resolution, and the desired frame rate. Like other Security Camera King recorders, this NVR carries the familiar On Screen Display control mechanism for adjusting and using the NVR and cameras. As an independent CCTV installer I have been working with Security Camera King products for about 4 years now and this OSD graphical interface is a welcomed familiar sight. The processing speed is fast and the hard drives are reasonably quiet. The videos are very clear and sharp and the color is accurate. Remote access via the Internet works well with just about any computer or handheld internet-smart device.

Seems these days like everyone in the video security field is going megapixel and why not? With such great resolution facial recognition and other fine details are no longer something that only a "forensic videographer" can determine. As a matter of fact, I still see television shows and news programs showing footage of video security cameras for various reasons and the image is so grainy it's barely discernible. There is absolutely no excuse for that anymore. This Security Camera King 32 Channel NVR is one good reason why. As far as actual use is concerned the NVR is relatively easy to use, the On Screen Display menus are relatively intuitive to navigate, and the unit includes a wealth of additional features and options. One more thing needs to be said about Security Camera King NVRs in particular. I have never seen a video security company with such a thorough more responsive technical support unit. Security Camera King's technical support staff alone deserves 5 stars, let alone the equipment.

I recently purchased my brand new home which was pre-wired not only for cable and telephone but with CAT5 as well. Since my wife and I had set aside a separate account for new appliances and such, we also decided to install a video security camera system. This 32 channel mini NVR was exactly what we needed. I actually used a total of 8 cameras, and this unit gave me the ability to use a resolution of 1080p for each camera at 30 frames per second. My cameras were POE and I used an 8 port POE switch to connect them to the NVR. The NVR is then connected to our Internet router. We use WiFi, devices with Ethernet cords, VoIP, and the NVR and we have no problems with bandwidth usage, interference or any other detriment. My wife and I both travel a lot and the remote access feature is superb for providing us with assurance that everything is ok at home, especially when we are both on the road. We had Security Camera King install both internal hard drives with a total storage space of 6 TB which more than enough for several weeks, since we use motion detection recording. It took a little experimenting but I finally got the e-mail push notification to work exactly the way I want it. The video recordings from this NVR are very high quality, color (or black and white), and are very detailed. Using the HDMI video output connection, I ran a line to our large screen TV so when we are home in the family room watching TV we can check the cameras by just switching the TV's input. In addition to the superior quality equipment, Security Camera King has an unbelievable support section. They are very cordial and want to help you take care of your problems. Best of all, they really know their products.

After finally rebuilding most of our home from the damage of hurricane Katrina I decided that I have been negligent all this time by not having a video security camera system. We have a large home and had to replace over 50 percent of it, so when I did, I had cable, telephone, and CAT5 pre-wired in the new portions and installed in the old. Although my neighbor made fun of me for installing outside jacks I'm glad I did. I decided to make use of the CAT5 so I started looking for a network IP megapixel video security system. I didn't realize how expensive a network system is compared to an analog system but I did extensive shopping and research and was totally sold on the idea of using 1080p (@ megapixels) resolution cameras (unless you use something higher than 2 megapixels, there is just NO WAY you can beat the quality of these systems). As I said, I did a lot of comparison shopping and research and I decided on this unit from Security Camera King. I use 8 2 Megapixel cameras on my system and this 32 Channel Elite Mini NVR and I am absolutely satisfied. When it comes to installation of a system like this the physical installation part is the easiest, with the most difficult part of that being the cabling and adjusting of the cameras (mounting is a piece of cake). Since most of my cabling was already done, this was particularly easy. I used an 8 channel POE switch to connect the cameras to so I could pump the power straight through the CAT5. I wanted a good system and something that I could access from work and my smartphone and this works perfectly. However, I am not a computer technician, nor a hobbyist, so the configuration of the system was a little difficult for me at first. That could possibly escalate to a really aggravating issue, but not with Security Camera King's technical support department for help. I knew my first call to them would set me precedence of what to expect and I must say I was very impressed. These guys are very good. In fact, I don't think you can beat Security Camera King all the way around from sales to support. You have my business and I will be glad to recommend you to others.

I wanted an NVR for my house because I had already run alot of cat 5/6 wire throughout the house over the years and didn't want to run cable from every camera back to the NVR. I also wanted 1080P for browser based access and DU1 from my smarphone. This unit is compact, easy to configure, has an intuitive user interface, can handle large drives, and was much cheaper than other offerings at the same total bandwidth (remember that the number of channels reduces with higher resolution and frame rates). For POE I put a POE switch in the attic and injectors at odd locations. I can't imagine a better deal given my requirements. But the primary reason I would recommend this unit, or any gear from Security Camera King, is the technical support. By far they have the friendliest, easiest to access, most well informed technical support out there. Since I'm new to NVRs and IP cameras I called them several times during my installation just to test my understanding before doing something I wasn't 100% sure of. Each time they patiently explained the technical details and options such that I did the install the best possibly way with the highest quality result.

This is a nice "mini" network video recorder. When you need to record high resolution IP network camera videos and don't need a lot of extra features (like audio inputs, alarms, a bigger case, etc) this unit will do the job. Even though it's small, it can still hold a total of two internal hard disk drives giving it a total of up to 6 Terabytes of hard disk storage space and with the cameras set to record on motion detection events this is more than plenty. Since the unit can actually hold two internal disk drives you can actually have two drives configured in RAID redundancy for data protection if necessary, although I have to admit I haven't had any clients that have requested that feature yet.

On the technical side of video characteristics, the recordings are absolutely pristine. They are very sharp, color saturation and hue is very close to real, and of course the resolution can be outrageous when you are recording at 2 megapixels or 1080p. On that same note, if you intend to record at a real time rate of 30 frames per second you can do that at D1 resolution for all 32 cameras, 720p for 16 cameras, or 1080p for 8 cameras (of course you can use different combinations).

The unit supports three full time simultaneous monitor displays using BNC, VGA, and HDMI connections and also offers full remote network/Internet control capability for up to 20 users (we actually have about 4) and it works great). Lastly, even though this is a "mini" unit, Security Camera King has built some interesting peripheral connection features into the unit so you can still protect and/or copy your data. In addition to being compatible with many different types of external USB equipment, this NVR can also make use of FTP to back up its video footage data to an entirely different location for extra protection. The OSD is fairly easy to navigate and configuration procedures for setting up the cameras on a network are about the same as for any other brand.

Nice enterprise business style network video recorder. This unit does a great job of handling and maintaining the integrity of the video recording signals regardless of the amount of network traffic. Records excellent high quality high resolution color video for each camera and is very convenient for remote access. Security Camera King tech support guys were a big help too.

This is an excellent IP network megapixel video camera recorder! I think there is more work going on inside this recorder than what we can imagine. Regardless, it does well at being able to handle multiple video camera inputs over the network at extremely high megapixel resolutions. The unit comes with its own SATA cables, CAT5 Ethernet cable to connect it to your network, instructional DVD, and a USB mouse as well as its own infrared remote control. We ordered this unit on line and received it within three days, complete with our designated internal hard disk drives installed for us.

Basically, this NVR has all the features and functions of a full size unit except for the number of audio and alarm connections and the size of the case (which ultimately limits the number of internal hard disk drives that can be installed). Plus there is no room for an internal DVD burner, but you can still make DVDs by copying files to a computer that has one and burning it from there. One really nice feature that works pretty well is that if you use Security Camera King IP network megapixel cameras with this NVR, Security Camera King has built into the programming of the On Screen Display a function that can search the network and automatically locate those cameras for you. It makes configuration and set up that much easier. IT may work with some other brand cameras as well and most ONVIF protocol other brand cameras are compatible for use with this unit.

As long as computers and networks continue in the trend that they have in the past several years, I can see many security video camera users converting their systems to totally IP network megapixel cameras with NVRs. This one in particular records video with accurate color representation, and clear, sharp pictures that contain a lot of fine detail. This allows you to get good images of close objects that are really small or still see many objects with clarity in a very large view (such as a parking lot). I haven't experienced a malfunction or work overload issues with our unit and it continues to work extremely well.

We've actually purchased this unit and the 32 Channel Elite Mini NVR with POE for two entirely different geographic locations for our business. The cameras we use with this unit are scattered and gain access to the NVR via a common connection through our network. Each camera is actually powered by its own external power supply so the Power Over the Ethernet (POE) option wasn't necessary for this set of cameras, but the super high resolution, high quality video recording for multiple cameras was. For our Security Camera King 32 Channel Elite Mini Network Video Recorder system, we purchased all new IP network cameras from Security Camera King. During our set up configuration of the NVR, it detected each of the SCK cameras automatically which made configuration a piece of cake. Prior to this purchase, we had been using a much older analog system that had a maximum of 420TVL resolution for the cameras and the DVR was pretty big and somewhat slow. Wow, what a difference! I can hardly wait to see what comes out next if technology continues to improve like it did since our last security camera system purchase! The remote access feature is a new thing for us and I have to say, the novelty hasn't really worn off yet. We seem to be spending a lot of time switching from camera to camera to remotely view what is going on. I suspect that will wane in time. We also use FTP back up for our files so we can clean up our internal hard drives on a regular basis and keep them as empty as possible to make sure we don't fill them up. Everything works smoothly and quickly and our hats go off to your great technical support team as they were a tremendous help in getting our entire system organized.
