1.3 Megapixel IP Indoor/Outdoor IR Dome Network Security Camera

I just finished installing a new network system with several different Security Camera King cameras, this being one of them. Works great, pictures is fantastic, infrared mode works great too. I PoE'ed this one (Power over the Ethernet) so there was only the Cat5 Ethernet cable to run. Sleek!

Nice camera, for a low resolution megapixel camera (that's a joke). I say "low resolution" jokingly because it is not a 3 megapixel camera, but the price isn't reflective of one either and that's nice. This camera will record 1.3 megapixels at a frame rate of 15 frames per second or 720P at 30 frames per second. If you are a "stickler" for "Real time" rates, that is 30 frames per second - which we are, the 720p resolution is just fine for us. Actually, there is not a tremendous amount of difference between the two with 1.3 megapixels being 1280 X 960 and 720p being 1280 X 720 pixels. Like most good network cameras this camera also sens a second or substream at a lower resolution (D1 or CIF) for the monitor so as not to soak up all the bandwidth on your network system (imagine 32 of these running at once). The camera is easy to mount, standard like any other dome camera, accept that if you don't want to use the 12VDC plug-in cable and if you have a network power supply switch the camera is capable of accepting the power over the Ethernet (PoE) so in that case it only requires one RJ45 connection to a Cat5 cable. It's got pretty good sensitivity to light, 0.1 Lux in color and 0.005 Lux in black and white but it doesn't necessarily require it because it also has an infrared mode and has its own infrared LED illuminators that give it about a 50 to 60 foot range in total darkness. It's a good solid camera with a high quality output video recording.

We've recently added this camera to our collection of camera for our security camera system here at work. We purchased a hybrid DVR/NVR from Security Camera King about 6 months ago with the idea that we would use most of the analog channels immediately and use the digital channels in the future as our needs dictate. This is our first IP Network camera but I bet it won't be our last. When you have the opportunity to see the difference between analog and digital cameras side by side the increased resolution is really amazing. So much more detail stands out. This camera sends a dual stream. One is the 1.3 megapixel high resolution stream of data used for recording the video and the other is a lesser D1 resolution for monitoring the camera. The lower resolution stream saves on your bandwidth usage but to me, even the D1 monitoring picture is better than typical analog D1 resolution videos. We do have a network and a network power switch, so we take advantage of the Power Over the Ethernet option to power the camera. (Here’s a suggestion Security Camera King, how about a hybrid DVR/NVR with a built in power switch for the network cameras?) We easily get a solid 50 foot infrared range in total darkness ( this is a confident estimation; I haven’t actually measured and tested but I’m sure that 50 feet is no problem, if not more.) We also have no problem utilizing the 15 frame per second rate so we get the full 1.3 megapixel resolution. The video quality is truly superb. I would recommend this camera, especially to someone who is looking for a network megapixel camera that doesn’t want to pay $300 or more for it.

Not a bad camera for a lower end resolution IP megapixel camera. Picture is clear, sharp, and color correct. Like many it records 1.3 megapixels at 15 frames per second, but if you're looking for a full time rate (30 frames per second) you'll need to drop the resolution down to 720P. Now 720p resolution is still better than 700TVl, especially when displayed by the NVR as 720P versus a D1 DVR resolution display of a 700 TVL camera. On the other hand, its not fantastic either, so I have restrained from giving this camera a five star rating and have gone with four stars. It's a good camera, even in infrared mode (with a range of about 60 feet), but there is nothing overly unique about it that motivates me to give it a five star rating.
1.3 Megapixel IP Indoor/Outdoor IR Dome Network Camera Works Pretty Good
Review by Daryl Carter on Mar 22, 2013
That's probably not a lot of help as far as a review goes, but it was the best title I could come up with. This 1.3 megapixel camera from Security Camera King is a rugged, quality camera that produces a good video recording with a decent infrared range. The design is consistent with most of Security Camera King's other (analog) vandal resistant cameras and it "fits in" rather nicely. It has a standard fixed 3.6mm lens with about a standard infrared mode range in total darkness of about 50 to 60 feet. One thing that impresses me about this camera is that even though it is an infrared camera with infrared LED illuminators it is still a good light sensitive camera (it is rated at 0.1 LUX in color and 0.005 LUX in black and white). One thing that does not impress me about this camera is that it records 1.3 megapixels only at a reduced rate of 15 frames per second. If you want full frame rate speed at 30 frames per second, you'll have to drop the resolution down to 720p. Still, it does a good job, is easy to mount, and has a POE option if you want to power it that way.

This is an excellent dome camera if I say so myself (and I just did). You'll be looking at a resolution of 1.3 megapixels at 15 frames per second or 720p at a frame rate of 30 frames per second on your recordings of this camera. It's almost as good as watching high definition TV. The picture is clear, crisp, detailed, and the color is true. The camera has an i9nfrared mode but even so is rated pretty well for minimum illumination requirements at 0.1 LUC for color and .005 LUX for black and white. When the IR LEDs kick on you can get a range of about 60 feet in total darkness in infrared mode. The lens is a standard 3.6 mm lens so the camera is probably best suited for wide angle over view shots. It has dual stream encoding so while you are recording at your set resolution and frame rate it is also sending a data stream for monitoring at D1 resolution and 30 frames per second. The camera can be powered by a standard 12 VDC power supply or it is also capable of Power Over the Ethernet or POE too.

I know this may sound a little strange, but I like this IP megapixel camera not only for the good resolution but because the camera has the same look as my analog cameras. When it comes to design, it looks uniform with the rest of my system (I have a Hybrid DVR/NVR). Other than the IP megapixel factor the camera is basically the same as an analog camera. That is, you can ceiling or wall mount it and either is easy to do. The camera moves around in all directions so you can easily aim it once it is mounted. Basically, all the electronic settings on the camera are automatic although there are a few things you can change if need be. The camera has a 3.6mm overview lens (or wide angle if you like) and it automatically switches from color daytime mode to black and white night time mode with the infrared LEDs also automatically activating. It's got about a 60 foot IR range, although that may be a little longer based on your specific conditions. It has an RJ45 Ethernet connector and the power plug on the camera cable. The power plug is unnecessary if you have a network with a power switch because the camera can do Power Over the Ethernet (POE).

Review by Duncan, Fred on Feb 28, 2013
I bought this camera from Security Camera King a few months ago. I really haven't had any problems with it, but I'm not overly impressed with it either. That might be because I am pretty familiar with IP Network cameras and used to looking and their fine quality video pictures. This is one of those cameras that doesn't deviate from that, but it really only does 1.3 megapixels at 15 frames per second. If you want to record at a full real time rate of 30 frames per second, you're going to have to drop the resolution down a bit to 720p. It does have dual encoding however and the sub stream that's sent for monitoring is able to reach D1 at 30 frames per second. It's got a fixed 3.6 mm lens so wide angle and overview shots are what you get. The description of the camera on Security Camera King's page says it has a 50 foot infrared mode range, but I actually get closer to a little over 60 feet in total darkness. The LEDs work pretty good and the camera has a CDS cell switch so the infrared mode comes on automatically when the lights get low.

Excellent picture! Wow these network cameras have really given the security camera industry a quantum leap when it comes to overall video quality. Even though this is only 1.3 megs (as compared to a 3 meg camera for example) it still produces a great video recording. The LEDs do a pretty good job of illuminating at night and I'd say we get about a 60 foot range. I also like the POE option. It keeps things simple.

This is a pretty good little camera. I mean that, literally. Even the CD that comes with the owners manual is little. It is easy to mount, just remove the ring that covers the base and apply three small screws. If you are mounting this camera to a hard substrate (such as wood or harder) be a little careful about over tightening the mounting screws as the holes that are provided for mounting are not heavily reinforced and you could break the outer ring of the screw hole if you screw in the screws to far or to tight. As far as IP megapixel cameras go, this camera is pretty basic, but then again so is the price. You have your choice of running it at 1.3 megapixels, 720P (which is the same height in pixels but slightly narrower--1280X960 versus 1280X720), or at D1 (which for the sake of consistency is about 704X576 or 480 pixels). I don't know about anyone else, but my Ultimate DVR can display D1 from a 700 TVL analog camera so if I'm going to go with a megapixel I'm going to run it at least 720p (actually I use 1.3 megapixels). The difference here is that the camera can only display 1.3 megs at 15 frames per second but can display the lower resolutions at real-time or 30 frames per second. The camera does produce a nice high quality video picture at 1.3 megs and the color consistency is good too. It's has a 3.6 mm fixed lens which will only give you wide angle or overview shots but it's amazing how much better they look at 1.3 megs versus say, 600 TVL. The camera has two connections, the RJ45 Ethernet receptacle and the 12 VDC power receptacle. You can eliminate power wires and just use the RJ45 by using Power Over the Ethernet if you have a network switch. The camera shoots two streams, one at the recording resolution and another as high as D1 for monitoring. Surprisingly, it comes with a variety of electronic video enhancing features including back light compensation, automatic white balance, gain control, 2D noise reduction and even up to 4 areas of privacy masking. For an economic camera to enter the IP megapixel world it's actually pretty good.
