The Ultimate Series DVR is amazingly simple to setup and operate. An intuitive mouse-driven interface provides very simple point-and-click control over all functions and settings. Having the ability to remotely view your system is great, but what if you are on the road and just can't monitor your system all the time. This is no problem with the Ultimate Series DVRs highly flexible email capability. Just set up a standard POP email account and have the system email you anywhere based on any criteria you choose. Many of our customers have emails sent to their cell phone for real time alerts. You choose email triggers that you want, and the DVR does the rest.
Storage capacity will never be a problem with the Ultimate Series DVR. Up to 8 SATA hard disk drives can be installed if no burner is mounted, and up to 7 SATA drives can be installed if you choose to use the DVD-RW drive. You get a little bit of everything with this hybrid Ultimate series recorder and the performance is great! There's no question about the quality of the recordings for either the D1 resolution analog cameras or the IP megapixel network cameras. Both types of video are clear, sharp, and the colors correct. Perhaps these factors may depend more on the cameras than the hybrid DVR/NVR but we use several different brands and values of cameras with our unit and they all seem to work very well and produce a very high quality video picture. When it comes to professional security camera systems, I think Security Camera King has "hit the nail on the head" with this one because of all the features it has to offer. It has a maximum potential of 16 channels of analog video cameras with each one recording at a resolution of D1 and at 30 frames per second. The 30 fps rate, or "real time rate" as they call it, is very smooth, fluid and life-like (hence the term "real time"). In addition to having 16 channels of video input for the analog cameras, each channel also has a video output for loopouts so that any camera can be monitored separately as a spot camera. While all this analog business is going on, the recorder can also handle up to 16 channels of IP megapixel camera recording. We use 720p resolution megapixel network camera on out system recording at a real time rate so we actually get a maximum of an additional 8 network cameras. If you drop the resolution to 480P you can utilize the full 16 channels of the digital network capability. On the other hand, if super high resolution is what you need, this unit can also record at 1080p at real time with a maximum of four additional megapixel cameras. If you have had a security system in the past and have used the analog cameras and DVR and are using this hybrid for the first time, look out. You will be totally amazed at the difference in resolution between the analog and digital cameras and displays. In addition to all this "video work" going on, the unit can also handle 16 channels of audio including 1 bidirectional (intercom) input/output. This unit has a fairly elaborate On Screen Display menu that can be a little overwhelming in the beginning for first time users. I'm not real familiar with network systems myself, so I ended up calling Security Camera King's support department and they helped me through a couple of my tough spots without a hitch. If you already have cameras in place, especially analog cameras for example, and you want to upgrade your system and extend your capability to network megapixel cameras, this hybrid unit is a great way to do it.
What's better than a high resolution DVR? Or better than an IP megapixel resolution NVR? A hybrid recorder that can do both. We have found this to be true especially in regard to the fact that we are looking to slowly transform our fairly large and elaborate security camera system from all analog over to an IP megapixel system. We found that the Security Camera King 16 Channel Hybrid Ultimate was a good opportunity to maintain the existing analog cameras while also trying out the new IP megapixel network cameras. We use all 16 analog channels and record at a resolution of D1 and a frame rate of 30 frames per second while simultaneously recording four IP megapixel network cameras at 1080p (2 megapixels) at 30 frames per second. Even though the Hybrid DVR/NVR has all this internal electronic "work" going on it seems to handle the processing of it rather easily. Plus it adds sound recording and alarm functions as well. Since the case size is a large 2U rack mountable unit we have purchased our unit not only with additional video data storage drives but with the optional DVD burner that Security Camera King installs for $37.95. Of course another big bonus of this system for us is the integration of the DVR analog portion with the IP network system such that the entire lot of cameras as well as all of the functions of the recorder can be accessed remotely via the Internet. One of our analog cameras is a 700 TVL PTZ camera that we also purchased from Security Camera King and this unit does an excellent job of allowing us to control the movements of the camera with just using the included USB mouse. Considering the fact that the unit also comes with a 3 year warranty at no extra cost, I can't see where you could go wrong.
This is a review of the Security Camera King 16 Channel Hybrid Ultimate Series H.264 DVR/NVR unit. For a little background before my review, I purchased this unit about 7 months ago for use in my business. We use all 16 channels of TVL resolution cameras at D1and all 4 channels of 3 megapixel cameras to display at a resolution of 1080p. We installed the system ourselves and encountered no problems during installation. We did have a couple of questions about the set up process and set Security Camera King/TechPro our questions via e-mail and received our answers by the beginning of our next business day.
This hybrid unit does an excellent job of recording video and integrating the megapixel cameras with the TVLs. We have a situation (I can't go into the specifics) where we need the higher resolution of the megapixel cameras but only for four of them with the rest being 700 TVL. Obviously, we feel like this hybrid DVR was built for us because of those exact needs. When it comes to all the features and options this unit has, I think the real question to ask is, "Is there anything it can't do?" I can tell you that this hybrid does everything a standard DVR does and more. It's got alarms, audio, multiple video display options, and Internet integration. The unit comes with a USB mouse and an infrared remote control for managing the hybrids On Screen Display (OSD) menu. However, other than when we first installed the system and set it up we really don't use them.
There are many things about this hybrid DVR that I like, but there are two that stand out that I think are really great. The first is that as long as you know the IP address and log in names and passwords, you can control every setting of the DVR from another computer remotely. The OSD in this case looks much like a typical Windows file explorer GUI and is pretty intuitive to use. It may take a little bit of playing around to get used to where certain settings are located but it doesn't take long. So basically, once the unit is installed and initially set up, you really don't need to use a monitor with it or be near it to make adjustments! The second feature I like the most about this hybrid is that if you go into the OSD setting you can actually set your cameras for a frame rate of 1. That's 1 picture every second. However, if there is any motion detected you can set the camera to immediately start recording in realtime (30 frames per second) until the motion stops. This can save TREMENDOUS storage space and is a real storage expense money saver.
Good device for combining both analog and digital IP camera processing in one. Videos are clear, the recorder works fine, haven't had any problems with it so far and the customer (me) is satisfied.

Who says you can't have your cake and eat it too?...ha..ha... This Security Camera King hybrid DVR is great. It gives you the best of both sides of security camera recording, analog and digital. The front and the back of this machine look like a typical 16 channel Security Camera King DVR but it's what's on the inside that makes all the difference! Let's take the "analog" side first. There are 16 BNC camera inputs on the back of the unit and 16 BNC loopouts (one for each camera). The DVR can record all 16 analog channels in D1 resolution at 30 frames per second each (real time). In addition, the "digital" side of the DVR can handle up to 16 additional IP megapixel cameras via the RJ45 Ethernet (network) port. Of course there some limits; if you want to record IP cameras at 30 frames per second than you have the following choices of resolutions with the number of cameras: 1080p with 4 cameras, 720p with 8 cameras, or 480p with 16 cameras. So this "hybrid" DVR/NVR is a great way to maintain your analog cameras that are still functioning well and add IP megapixel cameras to the same system. The video is outstanding, especially the displays from the megapixel cameras. I suppose there are many applications where the megapixel cameras are too expensive and the analog cameras will suit the purpose, but I could easily see the analog side of things becoming extinct several years down the road as technology becomes better and cheaper. For now, it's a great way to combine the two, and interestingly enough, this unit seems to be able to handle the work load just fine. Our DVR is "loaded" up with 16 700TVL "analog" cameras and 4 2 megapixel IP network cameras. We record the 700 TVLs in D1 resolution and the megapixels in 1080p all at 30 frames per second. This is especially useful in situations like a retail store where the analogs are suitable for overview shots but you may want to use the megapixels at counters, cash registers, and entrances to capture high resolution shots that can clearly identify a persons face, money, etc. I certainly would recommend this hybrid to others.
This is a really great machine that mixes analog video cameras with today's newer megapixel cameras and does a fine job of it. If you already have a n existing analog system but want to consider going toward a full IP megapixel system in the future, I think it is worth the investment to purchase this hybrid. It will allow you to maintain your current analog cameras and allow you to add up to 4 full 2 megapixel or 1080p cameras at a 30 frame per second rate. (Actually you can add a total of 16 IP megapixel cameras but you will have to drop the resolution to accommodate more IP cameras then just 4). In addition to the fantastic camera handling and video recording capabilities, this unit is packed with a variety of useful features. In fact, the only think I think Security Camera King forgot to include as a feature was an electric can opener! :) I have 16 700 TVL cameras, 4 2Megapixel 1080p IP cameras, and I record audio on four channels on my hybrid. In addition I have my alarm triggers hooked up to the unit and I have a total of 3 display monitors, 1 HDMI, 1 VGA, and 1 BNC spot monitor. All of this activity and I haven't had one single dropped frame, lost video, unit lock-up or crash, or a need to reboot. I call that good performance. As long as it continues for a few years, I call that good quality. There's plenty of room for potential internal and external storage options including eSATA external hard drives. You can even have a DVD burner installed by Security Camera King for only less than $40 more. Now there is one thing you may need with this system, even if you are used to owning and operating previous analog CCTV systems and that is help. Some dealers offer fairly decent technical support others none at all. But Security Camera King has got them all beat in my book. Their technical support staff is knowledgeable, understandable, and very polite. In fact in my case I finally gave up and asked them for help. Not only did they help, but they were able to remotely take over the controls and get me going. I definitely will use them again. I definitely will recommend them to others as well.
Nice unit. I don't know how it keeps track of everything but it seems to manage it just fine. The recorded videos are sharp, clear, focused, and true to color. The NVR part of this hybrid really lets you see the difference between the "analog" DVR resolutions and the "digital" megapixel resolutions. It works great, is fairly easy to set up and use, and I would say you wouldn't be disappointed if you purchased this.
Security Camera King definitely has their act together on this one. This hybrid is a very high quality recorder that boasts a lot of features. First, the analog side or the 8 TVL resolution channels (in our case we use 700 TVL resolution cameras) works great and it records at D1 resolution with a frame rate of up to 30 frames per second ("real-time") for each channel simultaneously. The recordings are clear, large, color correct, you name it, it's all good. On the "digital" side we have four cameras transmitting at 1080p resolution with the hybrid recording at that resolution at 30 frames per second also. All I can say about this is "amazing"! It's really wild to see the difference between the two systems, analog and digital. When you are used to seeing TVL resolution camera for years and you see a 700 TVL camera at D1 it looks pretty impressive for detail and quality of picture and such. But when you flip over to a full screen of a digital 1080p camera recording at that resolution there is absolutely NO comparison. The hybrid is great because it give you the chance to use both systems if you are trying to decide which one your going to go with eventually. Of course the hybrid has all the other extra features like audio recording, alarm inputs, and other as well. It's nice to have as many display options available (for example you can run three main monitors at once, HDMI, VGA, and BNC) but to be honest, the longer I own this thing the more often I seem to watch my computer or my iPhone to monitor it. This unit can come with an installed DVD burner for a little under $0 more and it is worth it, if you don't need the extra space for internal hard drives for storage. Running full capacity cameras, depending on your settings, can consume a lot of hard drive space so you need to keep that in the back of your mind as a consideration if that is important to you. I'm a do-it-yourselfer, not a professional installer. I had to contact Security Camera King's support department with a little help for setting up my system once I had installed everything. If you are worried about installing the system yourself, you shouldn't be. Their support staff is incredibly helpful and very willing to help you until you are completely satisfied. You won't be disappointed.

First let me say that this unit works like a charm. It is excellent and we love it, details in a moment. Second, and the reason why I did not rate it at 5 full stars, is that the bold print in the opening paragraph of the description is somewhat misleading. It says, "This unit can record up to 704 X 480 at 30 frames per second on all 16 channels simultaneously Plus this Hybrid DVR has an additional 16 special channels that can record our brand new Mega Pixel IP cameras at a resolution of 1080P (2 Megapixel) as well. This means that there are now a total of 32 channels and the last 16 channels will allow you to record over 23X higher resolution that the typical DVR!" I think this paragraph can be a bit misleading so I'm penalizing the rating here based on that. The Security Camera King 16 Channel Hybrid Ultimate Series DVR/NVR can handle up to 32 cameras (16 analog and 16 digital) however the paragraph above give you then impression that the additional 16 digital channels can be at 1080P at 30 frames per second. It CAN handle 16 additional digital channels but only at a resolution of 480p. If you want to record digital cameras at a resolution of 2 megapixels or 1080p than it can only handle 4 additional digital cameras along with the 16 analog to make a total of 20 channels at maximum resolutions at real-time rates. I'm not sure if anyone would want to, or if it would even make sense, to purchase 16 megapixel cameras and only record at 480p (it kind of seems like it defeats the purpose of an IP Megapixel camera). That being said, the unit works absolutely great. We have 6 hard disk drives for a total internal storage of 12 terabytes and a DVD burner as well. The storage capacity well exceeds our minimum requirements. This is a great unit if you are "breaking through" from the analog side (TVL resolution cameras) to the digital side (megapixels) of security cameras. It will allow you to keep our TVL cameras and add additional megapixel cameras to determine if you need full digital in the future. It's got just about all the features that an Ultimate DVR has including the potential for three full monitor displays at once (HDMI, VGA, and BNC). We do have a network which makes installation of the megapixel cameras because we use a power switch to provide POE or Power Over the Ethernet which means we only have to run one Cat5 cable to the cameras. It's a great unit, Security Camera King, I just think you should fix the wording of that paragraph!
