20X 2 Megapixel Infrared IP Network PTZ Security Camera
Review by Cheng Liu on Apr 22, 2013
This camera sort of looks like a robot hovering in the sky. It's a pretty large size and definitely elicits a feeling of "presence." It has a nice powerful 20X zoom optical lens and with the 1080p resolution, there is very little detail that you can't capture with it. It comes with all the goodies of most upper end IP network cameras including the capability of recording locally to a Micro SD card, simultaneous remote network users and such. Physically speaking, it has 14 infrared LEDs that are ginormous in size and output! When these guys are cranked up you can get up to a 250 foot range at night with the camera. We actually get even more than that, because we have other infrared cameras on our property that use infrared illuminating LEDs and are mounted beyond that 250 foot range and the PTZ can even pick up objects easily of the other cameras' infrared light. With LEDs that powerful you would think close up objects that are on the monitor screen would be all bright green in infrared because of the strong infrared radiation. However, that's where this camera excels because it has two different sets of infrared LEDs that are used; one for close shots and one for the long range shot. Another nice feature of this PTZ is the mouse control. You can move and control the PTZ with a mouse instead of a bulky joystick controller. All you have to do is point and click and the camera goes to where ever you tell it. Click and drag and it will zoom where you have drawn a rectangle. If you are used to using a joystick, it may take a little bit to get used to, but it won't take long. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with this camera.

We were recently lucky enough to get the funding approved for a new security camera surveillance system (believe it or not our old system was so old it used video tape recorders). I was shocked when I saw that they were installing this camera because I knew it had to have a heavy price tag. I asked the installer about it and he told me that they had purchased it from Security Camera King. At first glance, this seems like a tremendous amount of money to spend on a camera, but I have to say that I think this one was worth every penny. Whoever the contractor was that installed knew what they were doing because this camera has replaced 8 (that's right--8) of our old cameras and has an incredibly higher quality display for the recording and even for the monitor. Using this camera we now can cover the yard, the mess hall exterior, walking area, resident buildings, administrative office, and visitor's center. I mean there is nothing inside the compound that isn't covered. Although I wasn't the one that had any part of the decision making process in purchasing this camera, I would definitely purchase it if I did and I would recommend it to others.

This camera goes to the top of the list of PTZ cameras. It's got everything you need and everything you always wanted in a PTZ camera. I mean, these newer IP megapixel cameras are amazing alone but when you put these components into a PTZ body, you've gone one heck of a powerful camera. There isn't much this camera will miss either. It can record at 2 megapixels (1080p) at 30 frames per second and when you combine that with its 20X optical zoom, you can see all sorts of things; license plates, faces, and a lot of other objects you never expected to see with a PTZ camera before. (In addition to the 20X optical zoom it also has a 16X digital zoom which can be effective also). It's not real light sensitive at 1.8 LUX in color and 0.02 LUX in black and white, but that's okay because it brings its own spotlights, two sets actually. The camera has a nice long night time range of about 250 feet, give or take a few. That's because it's got these really powerful LED illuminators built in to the camera. However, it also has another set that isn't so powerful so when it lights up something close the picture isn't washed out. (It's the same sort of effect a "deer in the headlights" sees only from the deer's perspective, all it can see are these blinding headlights. However with a lower powered set of LEDs you now get the effect of the driver of the car, a well lit object within the range of the camera.) In addition to all of the PTZ features you also get the benefits of an IP megapixel camera. You can record through the network using a Hybrid DVR/NVR, or an NVR or you can even use a Micro SD card (32 gigs max) and record to it. And you can monitor it when you are away with an Internet ready smartphone. About the only thing I can think of that might be considered is its appearance. It's huge and kind of looks like an alien eye looking at you, although some would think the more intimidating the look, the better the deterrent factor.
20X 2 Megapixel Infrared IP Network PTZ Security Camera

This camera is a little massive in size but to be honest that's about the only thing that I can find fault with. To start off with it has a 20X optical zoom lens that works really well on its own (without the need for digital assistance), but it also has a 16X digital zoom on top of that. The digital zoom isn't anything that special because the way it works is just by enlarging the pixels, basically. Just the same, the 20X zoom is great! Combine the zoom with the 2 megapixel (1080p) resolution and that equals one great picture. The camera is loaded with all sorts of input possibilities too such as audio input and output and even a BNC connector for use on analog systems. It's even got room on board for a Micro SD
chip (maximum of 32 gigs). However, the best part of the camera is the infrared operations. This camera actually contains two different sets of infrared LED illuminators. One set is designed for objects far away and the other set for those objects that are up closer. If they stronger (far distance) LEDs were the only ones used they would be too bright for close up objects and likely wash out the video. Likewise, if the weaker (close up) LEDs were the only ones used they would be too dim and not be able to give the camera the range that the stronger LEDs can, which by the way, is about 250 feet!

Super excellent PTZ camera! I'm the Chief of Security at a major metropolitan airport for our General Aviation side. A good majority of our smaller single or double engine planes are tie downs outside on the tarmac, but we do have several larger planes in a large hanger area that contain private and corporate jets and a couple of helicopters. Although our General Aviation area has limited access it is not restricted access and as part of our hangar contracts with these aircraft we agree to provide security camera surveillance coverage (these aircraft usually have a net worth that ranges for a few million to upwards of 50 million or more dollars). We have had this camera installed at the apex of our hangar (actually we have 4 separate hangars and purchased 4 cameras). We record at 1080p at 30 frames per second and monitor stream at D1 at 30 frames per second. The camera has performed great! The recorded video is extremely clear and crisp and the color is correct, even with our mercury vapor hangar lights. (Apparently the camera's automatic white balance is right on the money). By installing the camera at the center of the building with the camera at the highest point we are able to zoom to all points within the building with the 20X optical zoom. Of course this is not the only camera we have in our buildings but it provides a vantage point like no other. Although we haven't had to use the infrared lighting much (skylights and automatic motion sensing triggered lighting) it is nice to know it is there incase we ever need it in the dark. The idea of two different sets of infrared illuminators works very well to prevent too much infrared light exposure on close shots yet provides enough strength for shots farther away. The camera works like a charm and can be set to tour and cruise and so on automatically. We are definitely happy with its performance. I would recommend this PTZ IP megapixel camera to others as well.

You know I have to tell you, after installing this camera and seeing it hang there in our lot, and especially seeing it move when it tilts or pans, you'd have to be a full to want to do anything wrong in front of it. Just the fact that it sticks out like it does says, "WARNING: YOU ARE BIEING WATCHED" to me. But what about the camera, how does it work? One word sums it all up: Outstanding. It's simple to install (by the way it comes with its own wall mount included in the package at no extra cost) and easy to operate. But don't let that user simplicity fool you, this is a complex highly technological piece of art. The camera can record at a resolution as high as 2 megapixels or 1080p in real-time or 30 frames per second. At this setting, the picture is clear, robust, colorful, and smooth without any jerking or flickering. It does an excellent job of recording. At the same time it is sending all this data for 1080p to the recording device it is also capable of sending a second stream for monitoring. The second stream is lower in resolution so as not to slow things up, but even that monitoring resolution is at D1! I think the camera has every electronic connection there is in the security camera industry. You can record to an NVR, a hybrid DVR/NVR, a personal computer, even a regular DVR, and also to itself using a 32 gigabyte SD card. I wouldn't necessarily call this camera a "speed" PTZ but the movements are still relatively quick considering the size of the camera. Sometimes when I see it turn toward me I get the sense it is going to fire something at me instead of just take my picture! Of the course the real "show stopper" for the camera is it's infrared mode LED technology. The camera has two sets of infrared illuminating LEDs. One set is used for close shots and the other is used for those shots farther away. The closer LEDs are less intense while the far set is more intense. This helps prevent washout from too much light when looking close an darkening out when looking far away. It's a great camera and it does everything that the specifications and literature that Security Camera King distributes says it does. There's no way you won't like this.

This camera pretty much does what it says and says what it does. Good 2 megapixel high quality, fin resolution video recording picture at a decent frame rate (real-time or 30 frames per second). Also submits a sub stream for monitoring at D1 resolution and up to 30 frames per second. ALl of the PTZ functions work well, including the zoom. They are

The corporation I work for came to me several months ago and said that they now had the available budget to update our old (we had a Video Tape Recorder!) security camera system.) Honestly, I had been urging it for several months.) I was ecstatic when they approved an IP megapixel camera system complete with a Network Video Recorder. The next hurdle was to convince them to purchase this PTZ. TO make a long story short, we did and I was like a kid with a new toy! I'll tell you now, I really can't find anything negative to say about it, I like it that much. First the camera boasts a 2 megapixel resolution video recording and it has a 20X optical zoom lens. There is very little that can get by it without it seeing it with this combination. It has a 360 degree continuous pan range and it tilts to a range of about 180 degrees. You'll likely shoot above your subject before you'll run out of tilt, unless you're tracking airplanes. It records at a full 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second or at 720p resolution at 3o frames per second, all the while maintaining a dual stream for monitoring at D1 at 30 frames per second. It has many different connection options meaning that it can not only connect to an NVR but it can also operate from a hybrid DVR/NVR, and even a DVR (it comes with a BNC connection and RS485 wire connections for analog recording use). In addition, you can record the camera directly to a personal computer or if you want to use it as a "standalone" type recording camera, it can even carry a maximum 32 gig micro SD card. The camera comes with its own 24 VAC power supply so you don't have to worry about that (unfortunately it can't do Power Over the Ethernet or POE) and it can handle up to 20 remote simultaneous users at once. It's got all the other electronic goodies you'd expect from an IP megapixel camera including two sets of infrared LEDs. One set is for close up video and the other is for up to 250 feet away, a smart way to permit long distance night time infrared viewing and close up viewing without washing out the viewing area with IR illumination. Speaking of smart, the camera is also capable of utilizing Security Camera King's 3D intelligent mouse positioning system. Good Camera--you won't be disappointed in the least!

We recently installed this camera ourselves at one of our remote business locations. Actually, I installed it. I must say they seemed to have thought of just about everything for this camera from the BNC connector or cable pair to connect it to a DVR (instead of an NVR for example) to even the pair of gloves they include with the camera to use to install it so as not to smudge the lens or IR LED's! If you are wondering about the picture quality, it is excellent and so are the pan and tilt speeds and responses. With the extra fine detail pickup of a 2 megapixel recording sensor combined with the 20X optical zoom you can easily read the side wall writing on a vehicle tire parked across the street! Another excellent feature is the dual infrared LEDs. First of all, the range of IR range for this camera is rated at about 250 feet; that's almost as long as a football field! (I say "rated" because our application for this camera doesn't need to go that far so I can't actually "say" it is 250 feet). The two sets of LEDs are different intensities; one for closer views and another for farther away views. This helps to prevent over exposing the close objects and under exposing the farther zoom shots. With this camera you can record to an NVR, DVR, Hybrid DVR, personal computer, and a removable on-board micro SD card (maximum 32 gigs). It also can be monitored with smartphone applications.
As far as 2 megapixel infrared IP network cameras are concerned, I really think this camera should be called the "Ultimate PTZ" (no pun intended Security Camera King toward your line of DVRs). Why? Well first off it has a 20X optical zoom with a 16X digital zoom. Let's forget about the digital zoom because it's just interpolation of the information that is already there anyway. Now, for the optical zoom, sure you can find PTZ cameras with greater than a 20X power zoom, I'm just not sure how many are 2 megapixels or greater in resolution. Next, this camera has an infrared mode. Infrared cameras are very common, almost more common than not these days, however they are usually set up for use with fixed lens settings. When you try to use built in LEDs for infrared use on a PTZ all kinds of things can go wrong. For example, to get the most out of your infrared PTZ you need powerful LEDS with a good range. However, if you need to look at something close, especially very close, chances are the only thing you'll see much of is the white out from the over illumination of the object from the strong LEDs designed for distant use. The reverse is true if your LEDs are made for objects up close. Zoom in on something far away using those close-up LEDs and you'll see exactly what everyone else sees at night--darkness. However, this camera is equipped with BOTH sets of LEDs and the technology to determine when it is appropriate to use them! Not only that but the on-board distant LEDs have a working range of 250 feet! That's longer than many separate illuminators. We actually use the on-board LEDs for the first 200 or so feet and extend it about 250 more with a high powered illuminator. Not to mention that this camera is an IP network camera with a 2 megapixel resolution and all the benefits that come with such cameras. What's that? You say you are going to change the name to the "Ultimate PTZ?"
