Can't Beat True WDR

I may be biased but I just don't think you can beat the image of a true Wide Dynamic Range camera. Digital or simulated WDR just doesn't cut it for me. That being said, I think this is one of the better box cameras (analog transmission type) that Security Camera King has had.

I'm not a professional CCTV installer and I found this camera very easy to install. I like the slim, sleek design. Most importantly, it does have the Sony dual scan CCD which provides excellent true wide dynamic range which saved my butt when I mounted this because I didn't consider the lighting conditions where I was shooting. WDR really did a good job of compensating for that. The camera captures a very good high quality 700TVL resolution video.

For an analog 700TVl resolution box camera, this model is very good. The true wide dynamic range has the magical ability to make in-experienced CCTV do it your selfers like me look like a genius. I know now that lighting and where it comes from makes a big difference in the quality of the video, but thankfully with this cameras dual scan CCD WDR, it made the proper compensation for my lack of knowledge. The mount and install were easy; set up can be done on site using the On Screen Display buttons in the side panel of the camera. Videos captured with this camera are clear, colorful, and accurate. I don't think you could ask for more.

I ordered this camera and the lens from Security Camera King on line, without speaking to anyone there. I received my order in three days, everything was intact and in good order. I installed the camera and it works extremely well with a very nice video picture. The dual scan true wide dynamic range does make a big difference.

I found this camera listed under the "License Plate Security Cameras" category. I don't thin the camera was designed specifically for license plate capture, however it is a good box camera and cheap alternative. The dual scanning CCD creating true wide dynamic range is very beneficial for use in license plate capture. In order to use it for this purpose you will need to 1. Purchase the proper lens for your situation, 2. Purchase an outdoor housing if it will be mounted outdoors, 3. Mount it at the proper height for license plate capture, and 4. Make lots of adjustments to the On Screen Display to fine tune your use for license capture. The OSD is jam packed with features like head (high) light compensation, back light compensation, motion detection, privacy detection and many others as well as of course, wide dynamic range. I would also recommend you have a portable service monitor (to see adjustments) and a few test vehicles on initial set up. Unfortunately it does not have an RS485 feed for remote control of the OSD at the DVR end but as I said before, with the proper time and effort you can make this work as a decent license capture camera. In addition, I found Security Camera King's support department to be very helpful during my setup process.

I would recommend this camera if you are looking for a high quality 700TVL camera. We use this camera with a standard 2.8 - 12mm varifocal lens on our display window of our store. It actually covers the entire window very well, including the entrance. The true wide dynamic range does a great job of compensation for the changes in natural light as well as the lighting differences because of the display window lights. It not only records the display window well, but does a good job of covering the door entrance to the right of it which is not as brightly lit. I'm assuming this is because of the true WDR function.

This camera works great with our Security Camera King Federal Series 960H system. Actually I should say "these cameras" because we have 4 of them. They max out in resolution at 700TVl and the picture is clear and very detailed. It is a true day/night camera so there are no infrared LEDs attached although I suppose an infrared illuminator would work if needed. The camera is rated for 0.1 LUX in color and 0.001 LUX in black in white with the automatic gain control on. Another excellent function of this camera is the true dual scan wide dynamic range feature. This camera does the true dynamic range, not the "digital" wide dynamic range found on cheaper cameras so it handles lighting problems, shadows, etc. very well. It comes with an On Screen Display and control and since it is a box camera it give you the latitude to vary what type of lens you may want to use. I have absolutely no complaints and would be glad to recommend it to others.

Although this camera is specifically marketed as a "License Plate Capture" camera, I have found that it does quite a remarkable job of capturing license plates and an incredibly low price compared to specific license capture cameras. In order to do this you will need to make sure that you have mounted this camera in the proper location for your particular situation and have obtained the proper lens (preferably a varifocal lens that will permit the proper zoom needed to capture the area of the license plate for the vehicle types you plan to capture), and finally adjust the settings on the On Screen Display (OSD) to accommodate and enhance the license plate capture experience. For example, if the cars are moving you will more than likely want to either use the automatic shutter speed function or choose a high shutter speed as long as there is adequate light to prevent blurring. At any rate, the camera does produce a nice 700TVL color resolution video and has several features and options that can make it suitable for this purpose. We are happy with ours as we use it to identify vehicles in a permit only parking garage. The cars enter the garage at an entrance guarded by a crossbar so the care is nearly stopped or completely stopped when the plate is captured. The true wide dynamic range function does help to eliminate potential lighting problems with this process.

If you like box cameras, you will like this one. The camera has a lot of features and it is capable of 700TVL resolution capturing but it's greatest feature is the dual scan wide dynamic range. Although digital WDR seems to work fine if the camera is a high quality camera, this camera with the actual double scanning feature devoted solely to wide dynamic range capturing and not interpolation is above most in that regard. I use this camera in my store front where there are all sorts of lighting issues. From the movement of the sun during the day time to the heavily cast shadows from the front window display, this camera eliminates most of those problems and provides you with excellent video. It also has the capability to use dual voltage although I don't personally need that feature. The camera does well in poorly lit conditions too as it is rated for 0.1 Lux in color and down to 0.001 Lux in black and white.
