700TVL License Plate Capture Security Camera
Review by Dave Fortner on May 31, 2014
This camera works like it was specifically designed to capture license plates and I don't think I would use it for anything else. That's not a bad thing, on the contrary it is tailored with specific features that only enhance the license plate capturing all the more. We p[purchased this camera from Security Camera King right here on line and received it in only a few days. To be honest, it was just about ready to go out of the box but of course we adjusted everything as much as we could to get the best capture. The camera and all its features work just great! The 700TVL resolution is fine when it is couple with the strong zoom so that we can see every plate clearly and most of the time in the evening we can still see the colors. This is definitely a go to camera for license plate capturing.

700TVL License Plate Capture Security Camera
Review by Willis, Travis (Indiana USA) on Mar 26, 2014
We ordered two of these cameras on line from Security Camera King and they arrived at our doorstep in just a few days. We ordered two cameras so we could use one to capture plates on our entrance and one to capture plates on our exit. They work great. It may take a little while to get them set up just the way you want them, but any camera that captures license plates will most likely require that. The LEDs seem to illuminate or reflect their light just right at night so that the plates really stand out even with headlights beaming your way. The video captures are clear and well defined. I guess because we always have some constant light, our cameras have never switched to black and white mode; we always get all captures, regardless of the time of day, in color. I really don't have anything negative to say about this camera other than perhaps they could have spread the camera controls out a little on the back of the camera instead of packing them into a small hole in the center, but then again, I understand that this provides the ability to cover them with the screw-on cap cover. Good cameras.

700TVL License Plate Capture Security Camera
Review by Frank Conrad on Jan 07, 2014
This is an excellent license plate capture camera. It apparently has very good low light sensitivity because it is able to capture the vehicle license plates in color even at night. The camera is located in a metropolitan area and apparently the ambient light form the street lights and store signs is more than enough to provide light for the camera! The On Screen Display on this camera is loaded with features that include wide dynamic range, back light compensation, shutter speed control, gain control, motion detection with privacy zones and many others. The varifocal lens ranges from 9 to 22mm in focal length so it has some decent zooming capabilities to it. Another feature I really like about this camera is the RS485 option for remote control of the camera's OSD from the DVR. If you need to make occasional changes to setting because of changes in the surrounding environment, this comes in very handy instead of standing out there with the camera pushing buttons. We are very satisfied with this camera and would certainly recommend it to other users.

We purchased this camera for use at our entrance and exit gates at a gated community. As head of security, I an honestly say that this camera seems to have been built specifically for license plate capture and does a darn fine job of it. First of all I can assure you that the recorded video captured by this 700TVL resolution camera is exceptional in quality. Next the varifocal lens doesn't mess around either with a focal length of 9 to 22mm it's designed to start a little narrow and zoom accordingly. (Something like a 2.8 to 12 mm varifocal lens works, but the lower end of the range is much too wide for decent license plate capture. This camera starts near that upper range where it is more applicable for this purpose.) With a little bit of experimentation and tweaking, you can adjust the shielded privacy regions to pretty well block out the brightest lights of cars at night that could interfere with your capturing process. Our state only has rear license plates so we mainly use these feature to block out any bright tail/brake lights and marker lights. Motion detection obviously saves on recording space. We use a standard 3.6 mm wide angle lens camera to get a picture of the car and occupants in addition to the license plate capture and it works great!

This is truly an excellent camera. I think Sony has one of the best CCD's and digital signal processing chip on the market today. The automatic tone reproduction (wide dynamic range) does an excellent job of keeping the colors true in the video and plates readily identifiable. The 700 TVL resolution also picks up some nice, fine detail. I have a Security Camera King Ultimate DVR and the only thing that I think could produce a better picture with for capturing license plates other than going with IP megapixel cameras, would be to use this camera with a 960H format DVR and that's about it. The 2.8 to 12 mm varifocal lens gives you some good range in focal length from a wide open angle lens to a much tighter zoomed shot at 12 mm. You can easily use this to close in on the genera license plate area of the majority of the vehicles these days. The camera has some pretty thorough infrared illumination. But if you have fairly well lit conditions where you use it, it probably won't even be a consideration for you. It is pretty light sensitive being rated at 0.003 Lux in color and 0.0001 Lux in black and white with the sens up function on and there is very little interfering noise to disrupt the process of identifying the plate. The On Screen Display gives you access to many features that can be adjusted to enhance the quality of your recorded video. Although, actually, many of those features also do a fine job of working in the "automatic" mode. Some of them include adjustable electronic shutter from 1/60th to 1/120000 of a second, automatic gain control, automatic white balance, and automation backlight compensation. It's a fine camera with an excellent display and you can tell it was designed specifically for license plate capture.

I don't usually write reviews and I hate selling things. However, when I find a product that I am really jazzed about, I can't help telling everybody (and this doesn't happen too often). This Security Camera King license plate capture camera is one of those products. At the risk of sounding like a salesman, the following is my review. We received this camera the same week we ordered it. It arrived in perfect condition. I took the camera out of the box and mounted it. We had already run the RG59 coaxial cable for the camera, the power line, and a pair of wires for the RS485 connection to the DVR for remote control of the On Screen Display menu from the DVR, so all I had to do was mount the camera, terminate the lines with connectors, and it was ready to go. Once I had the camera mounted and aimed, I didn't do anything else with it until I studied the manual directions to learn how to use the OSD and how to make changes to the settings. I read about some of the features such as the shutter speed, white balance, sens-up, gain control, motion detection and so on and I knew better than to try to mess with them until I at least had a fairly good idea of how to use them. After studying the manual for some length of time, a car pulled into our lot. I happened to look up at the monitor to see what I was going to need to do to make the changes on the OSD to make sure the license plate capture worked properly. After spending about 2 hours on reading the manual, I just realized at that moment that the video capture was perfect, just the way it was! I didn't have to change anything! I really couldn't believe it. I'm sure this won't be the case for everyone that uses it, but it was for me. This camera is definitely a "keeper." If you need a good camera for license plate capture, you should seriously consider investing in this one.

We purchased two of these cameras for our corporate business office building location. The cameras are used to capture the plates of vehicles entering and exiting our facility. We have an extremely large parking area that can accommodate a relatively large number of vehicles. During the day we have no major shadows to contend with (like buildings or trees) and at night our property is extremely well lit. We already have a security camera system that we purchased from you (Security Camera King) almost a year ago and we have extra open channels on the DVR so all we needed to do was mount these cameras and run the bale for them. I initially had my doubts about these cameras because I just wasn't sure they would be able to fulfill our expectations. Well, I have to admit that I was wrong, very wrong. Not only have these cameras met our expectations but they have definitely exceeded them. First we were anticipating the need for extra lighting to make sure that the camera would capture the plates on vehicles at night. Not only does the camera do an excellent job during the daytime, but with the low light sensitivity that its sensor has it does just as good a job at night without any extra lighting! Basically we installed these cameras and let the automatic functions like wide dynamic range, back light compensation, and such do their work. Combined these features with the 700TVl resolution and these cameras do a fine job.

I bought 2 of these cameras to watch the entrance and exit. These cameras are the best I have ever used. They both stay in color day and night as there is street lights about 30 feet from each one. Out of the box on both I never made any setting changes, like zooming in any. I can read the plates just fine. At night these cameras with the white light make the plates in our state light up even with the headlights of the car coming at the camera. I have bought several products from Security Camera King. Their dvr's are easy to operate and their cameras are the best around and their prices are great. Keep up the good work guys!

There are digital security cameras that can be used as license plate capture cameras. This isn't one of them. This is a digital camera made specifically for the purpose of capturing license plates or at least that's the way I feel about it. What makes this camera so special is all the electronic features that are built into the camera to enhance video recording license plate captures. There is 3D digital noise reduction, head light compensation, privacy region assignments, motion detection, and an eclipse feature. The colors are right on the mark and make identification of the state of issue easy when the plate holder covers up the name. The varifocal lens lets you set the camera up to zoom in on the plate area and even the infrared LEDs are white colored to be less distractive to drivers. Not to mention the 700 TVL high resolution of the video recording. It works great for us!

700 TVL License Plate Capture Security Camera - A Great Special Purpose Camera

Review by Josh Newman on Dec 26, 2012
My title sums it up. This camera is designed for license plate capture and you can tell that when you get it. The 700 TVL resolution provides outstanding detail for capturing license plates. You can run this camera continuously if you desire or use the motion detection feature to conserve on video storage space on your hard drive. We mounted this camera fairly low to the ground, just about at average license plate height. We mounted it to a pressure treated 4 x6 that is cemented in place. We have another one that is at an angle to the vehicle with a bullet camera mounted up higher on it. We use it for a shot of the vehicle and the people/contents inside. The license plate capture camera is a great special purpose camera and does an excellent job of capturing license plates. The camera has an On Screen Display menu that you can operate using the button joystick on the back of the camera underneath a round threaded cover. Once you have complete your adjustments to the varifocal lens and all of the OSD enhancements you should be able to capture license plates without fail.
