There are specialized features that will be needed when you plan to capture license plates. Those features can be found right here. This License Plate capture security camera is features a Sony 1/3" CCD with a 9-22mm Lens and our top of the line DSP that provides an astounding 700 TV lines of resolution. You can use the OSD to take advantage of many features that will make your license plate capture project a success. Use the shielded privacy regions to block out unwanted headlights and brake lights, the eclipse feature will suppress any color spectrum you designate including the red tail lights that often blind security cameras when trying to capture license plates. The Infrared LEDs are white so they will not distract drivers. There are many additional features like built in motion detection, 3D Digital Noise Reduction to improve night time low light clarity, digital stabilizer for windy environments and even a built in 8x digital zoom. Ideally, you will use this security camera to only capture the license plates. It should be zoomed in tight to the designated area, then use another more basic security camera for the overview which will provide you more details about the vehicle.

I don't usually write reviews and I hate selling things. However, when I find a product that I am really jazzed about, I can't help telling everybody (and this doesn't happen too often). This Security Camera King license plate capture camera is one of those products. At the risk of sounding like a salesman, the following is my review. We received this camera the same week we ordered it. It arrived in perfect condition. I took the camera out of the box and mounted it. We had already run the RG59 coaxial cable for the camera, the power line, and a pair of wires for the RS485 connection to the DVR for remote control of the On Screen Display menu from the DVR, so all I had to do was mount the camera, terminate the lines with connectors, and it was ready to go. Once I had the camera mounted and aimed, I didn't do anything else with it until I studied the manual directions to learn how to use the OSD and how to make changes to the settings. I read about some of the features such as the shutter speed, white balance, sens-up, gain control, motion detection and so on and I knew better than to try to mess with them until I at least had a fairly good idea of how to use them. After studying the manual for some length of time, a car pulled into our lot. I happened to look up at the monitor to see what I was going to need to do to make the changes on the OSD to make sure the license plate capture worked properly. After spending about 2 hours on reading the manual, I just realized at that moment that the video capture was perfect, just the way it was! I didn't have to change anything! I really couldn't believe it. I'm sure this won't be the case for everyone that uses it, but it was for me. This camera is definitely a "keeper." If you need a good camera for license plate capture, you should seriously consider investing in this one.

We purchased two of these cameras for our corporate business office building location. The cameras are used to capture the plates of vehicles entering and exiting our facility. We have an extremely large parking area that can accommodate a relatively large number of vehicles. During the day we have no major shadows to contend with (like buildings or trees) and at night our property is extremely well lit. We already have a security camera system that we purchased from you (Security Camera King) almost a year ago and we have extra open channels on the DVR so all we needed to do was mount these cameras and run the bale for them. I initially had my doubts about these cameras because I just wasn't sure they would be able to fulfill our expectations. Well, I have to admit that I was wrong, very wrong. Not only have these cameras met our expectations but they have definitely exceeded them. First we were anticipating the need for extra lighting to make sure that the camera would capture the plates on vehicles at night. Not only does the camera do an excellent job during the daytime, but with the low light sensitivity that its sensor has it does just as good a job at night without any extra lighting! Basically we installed these cameras and let the automatic functions like wide dynamic range, back light compensation, and such do their work. Combined these features with the 700TVl resolution and these cameras do a fine job.

I bought 2 of these cameras to watch the entrance and exit. These cameras are the best I have ever used. They both stay in color day and night as there is street lights about 30 feet from each one. Out of the box on both I never made any setting changes, like zooming in any. I can read the plates just fine. At night these cameras with the white light make the plates in our state light up even with the headlights of the car coming at the camera. I have bought several products from Security Camera King. Their dvr's are easy to operate and their cameras are the best around and their prices are great. Keep up the good work guys!

There are digital security cameras that can be used as license plate capture cameras. This isn't one of them. This is a digital camera made specifically for the purpose of capturing license plates or at least that's the way I feel about it. What makes this camera so special is all the electronic features that are built into the camera to enhance video recording license plate captures. There is 3D digital noise reduction, head light compensation, privacy region assignments, motion detection, and an eclipse feature. The colors are right on the mark and make identification of the state of issue easy when the plate holder covers up the name. The varifocal lens lets you set the camera up to zoom in on the plate area and even the infrared LEDs are white colored to be less distractive to drivers. Not to mention the 700 TVL high resolution of the video recording. It works great for us!

My title sums it up. This camera is designed for license plate capture and you can tell that when you get it. The 700 TVL resolution provides outstanding detail for capturing license plates. You can run this camera continuously if you desire or use the motion detection feature to conserve on video storage space on your hard drive. We mounted this camera fairly low to the ground, just about at average license plate height. We mounted it to a pressure treated 4 x6 that is cemented in place. We have another one that is at an angle to the vehicle with a bullet camera mounted up higher on it. We use it for a shot of the vehicle and the people/contents inside. The license plate capture camera is a great special purpose camera and does an excellent job of capturing license plates. The camera has an On Screen Display menu that you can operate using the button joystick on the back of the camera underneath a round threaded cover. Once you have complete your adjustments to the varifocal lens and all of the OSD enhancements you should be able to capture license plates without fail.

This camera does an excellent job at capturing license plate information at a relatively decent price. You can toy around with the settings on many cameras to make them into a license plate capturing camera and they may even do a fair job, but you can tell that this is what this camera was designed for. We actually use two cameras for our vehicle identification program. We use this camera specifically to capture the license plates and another bullet camera for getting a shot of the vehicle and driver. The camera has great a great video picture with a resolution of 700 TVL. The 9 to 22 mm varifocal lens is designed to "zero" in your shot specifically on the license plate area. The camera has an On Screen Display (OSD) menu system that is used to set the various features that enhance license plate capture even more. The back of the camera has a small circular access cover that when removed exposes the camera's built in button-joystick controller for the menus. It also has the option of using your DVRs RS485 connection for remote control of the OSD. There are all kinds of features that can be accessed and between adjusting these features and working with the mounting and varifocal lens; I can't see how you could miss a plate. The LED's give the camera an infrared mode range of about 100 feet so you can even capture plates in poor lighting conditions. Excellent Camera!

It's one thing to have a camera that is physically designed for the purpose of capturing license plates but it is a real bonus to have one that is electronically constructed to capture license plates. First of all this camera has a 700 TVL resolution which produces a clear, highly detailed, color video. You need this kind of detail to ensure a clear capture of license plates. The camera is loaded with a whole collection of electronic features "geared" to enhancing the license plate capture experience and it does a great job of it too! We have experimented with just about all of the features on this camera and tweaked the settings one way and then another until we have arrived at the perfect setting for us. The camera has an on screen display menu that can be navigated by using the joystick type button on the back of the camera. We've used the shielded privacy regions, the eclipse feature to block out tail lights, motion detection, 3D noise reduction and all of the others until we have arrived at the perfect license plate capture. Even the built in 8X zoom works surprisingly well. We are very satisfied with this camera and would recommend its use to anyone that needs a dependable license plate capture camera.

If you are looking for a license plate capture security camera, the TP-LP700 is an excellent choice. I never realized how easy it would be to capture the license plate numbers until we installed this camera. I suggest that you zero this camera in on the license plate area and use another camera (we use another box camera) if you need an overall view of the car and/or occupants. The 700 TVL line resolution on this camera picks up details extremely well, so if you need to use a somewhat wider shot because of your situation, the license plate number is still easy to capture. We use ours at an entrance so I can't say if this camera works well for fast moving vehicles, but it does great for our purpose. The camera's electronics comes with a bunch of useful features and we use many of them including 3D digital noise reduction, the digital stabilizer, and the shielded privacy regions. The varifocal lens allows you a lot of latitude to widen or tighten your shot, especially when deciding where to mount the camera. This camera also has an on screen display that allows you to adjust the settings as you see fit. We use it with a Security Camera King DVR package system and it works great!

I can't exactly say what we specifically use this camera for, but of course it does involve the identification of license plates. Regular digital cameras just won't do for this purpose because it is too difficult to get the lighting, shutter speeds, and resolution all right and able to coincide properly with each other. First the 700 TVL License Plate Security Camera has an extremely high resolution that makes identifying license plates much easier than lower resolution cameras. Second, the built in 8x zoom helps after mounting the camera to really "dial in" on the field of view you need to capture. The shielded privacy regions aid in preventing washout from headlights or taillights and makes plat identification even easier. If you need to capture license plates for any reason, this camera can do the trick and at a reasonably affordable price. I would recommend this camera to other users.

Great camera! We have a private parking building for hospital staff only. Lately, we have noticed an increase in non-employee entrances even though we have card entry systems. We have installed these cameras (2) at the entrance and exit to the parking ramp. (We already have an overview camera for the wide shot of the area.) It records licenses plates very well. The numbers and letters are easy to see and we can easily identify cars using our employee license plate database. The infrared function works great although we don't use the full 100 foot range as we have the cameras mounted fairly close. Motion detection saves storage space and the shielded privacy regions feature works well to block out washout from car taillights. Excellent license plate capture camera!
