DVR: QDVR-SBE16M
I want to record audio 24X7 but not necessarily video. Another reason is so the mic, placed near two cameras, can pick up audio regardless of motion settings on the two cameras.

Unfortunately, this is not possible due to the 24hr / Motion rules applying to the Video only. If the camera is set to 24/7 it will record both Video and audio (if hardware has a mic or external mic). Setting the camera to Motion only means it will only record that channel when the motion rules occur.

Thanks for the input. We installed a new one today and it seems to pick up a whole lot better than the first one. Maybe it was bad to begin with. We'll see on this one.

For Microphones its best to install them in the middle of the room and away from any A/C Inlet or outlet.
