It depends. Most of our IPPTZ have an analog video output that generally can be connected to a regular DVR. This analog video is normally less quality than the video you will get by using an NVR. If you want to control the camera from an analog DVR you will need to extend the RS485 from the camera to the DVR RS485 port, then some configurations need to be made. If you are using then an NVR there is no need to run those wires because all of the controlling is done through the network using the ethernet cable the camera is connected to the switch.
