I just got an NVR-EL-16 to monitor an area which includes a parking lot.  What kind of alarms, strobes, sirens, etc. can I connect to this to ward off trespassers, and where would I shop for them?  And would they receive their power from the NVR, or would they need separate power supply?

Any device that accepts the normally open/closed protocol will work. Pretty much anything with a relay will work. You can purchase from many electronics and access control stores. Radio Shack would be a good place to start. In most cases they would need a separate power supply.
